The Nets were headed down hill before they got Vince, they were no where near the playoffs when he got there, and he turned it around and basically got them in the playoffs. Even when Rj got hurt, so dont say he hasnt dont nothing for the team because thats bs. You can say kidd made him better and he did it all but the truth is carter did yes kidd did help him, but vince was a scoring machine before he came to the nets. Bashing VC about how he hasnt done anything is dumb, its his choice he seems to like it in NJ we will just have to wait and see.

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting AMS_ice:</div><div class="quote_post">That's right! If Carter leaves... The Nets confidence will have a huge difference... Their confidence will be boosted up! Without Carter the Nets were East Champs for 2 straight years! And where may I ask has Carter brought the Raptors? FYI... Michael Jordan has 6 NBA rings, 10 scoring titles. 5 MVP's, 6 Finals MVP and a Defensive Player of the Year and countless more records. It's not a question of bowing down... It's RESPECT! Carter will be lucky to be even a quarter of MJ!</div>

The nets haven't been champs for quite a while man. Ever since Kenyon left they were nowhere close to it. Carter made a huge difference, whether u'd want to admit it or not. In fact, if Carter left, and the nets were at the bottom, you would probably not watch the nets anymore, and just ignore everything. That's what a lot of people in Toronto did. Michael Jordan is the best man.. no doubt.. but why do you have to compare Carter to him? Are there many players comparable to Jordan? Probably not, but if the fans vote you in as the top vote-getter, you should be allowed to start out of respect for us fans, after all, it is us who pay to watch them. And for them to have Jordan come out when the fans clearly voted for Carter to come out, it's a matter of principle, regardless of how good Jordan might be. Now I know we all love Jordan, but meh anyways, I hated Carter when he left Toronto, but I know how much he's done for Toronto as well. There will be a huge difference if he leaves.

AMS_ice, your hating on Carter way too much. He has done more than what you give credit for. W/o him you guys wouldn't be in the spot you have been. 3rd seed in the East would have been damn near impossible without that Trio. He helps you guys more than hurts and you should know that if your a Nets fan, especially a lot of his clutch shots he has hit.

Also I don't know where you guys are coming from when you say Vince was a scoring machine b4 he came to the Nets and that he is unselfish. He has taken the most shots in his career in NJ last year. He also has the most attempted FG's on that team.

No defense from the wings. We would avg giving up a good 105 ppg easily. Could you imagine VC or JJ guarding the opposing teams best wing? I sure as hell can't and don't want to. JJ will be on the bench and we will likely start Ariza. Hedo has a better shot at starting at SF then JJ does at SG if we wanted the no defense look.

I'm against the Magic getting VC too, unless it's really short term. (like 2-3 years max) and even then I would probably pass. I don't want to give him a 5-6 year max deal because he is getting older and his skills will eventually start to diminish. In Orlando, Dwight Howard is the man. Vince Carter would not be the man. VC has never not been the man, can he handle it? Also I know it's been in the past, but his injury and character problems turn me against him. Plus we've already got 2 wings that don't play much defense, we need to find a quality defensive wing, rather than the scorer. Also the Magic's run last year was based on balance, so adding someone who will likely take 20 shots a game won't help our balance.

I don't expect Vince to stay in New Jersey. It looks like he's just padding his stats until he gets to free agency.

He'll go to whoever offers him the most money and where he can get the most media attention.

I agree with most of that, and I just don't understand why Jefferson is quietly on the block. Carter should be there instead of him. Like I have said before, it will be stupid to trade away Jefferson if Carter ends up leaving anyway.

I'd love to see Vince in an Orlando uni. Do it Vince...

I think he could do a much better job at padding his stats if that's what he's trying to achieve. I definately wouldn't call what he's doing padding his stats, some people are acting like because Vince played 30 MPG and wasn't being allowed to do the same things he was before for half a season in Toronto he became sucky.

In reply to AMS_ice. New Jersey didn't "give him a second chance", Vince didn't need anyone to give him a second chance, I don't know where you got that idea from. Any team he went to he would've done good, him playing well was not specific to Jersey, lol. New Jersey trading what they didn't want for him is not giving him a second chance, thats called getting a very good player for nothing. People still say this "no one wanted him", but please, do you think GM's actually thought he just magically became sucky? If people haven't realized, usually when trades like this go down, teams are trying to squeeze as much as they can without losing anything. Teams wanted him, but they wanted him for as little as possible. Then you consider the Raptors being the ones with their hands down since they looked desperate to trade him, and that they weren't even playing him, what value can you expect to get there? At least if you want to trade a guy, play him, I mean teams do this with crappy players, and we're talking about a guy who's an All-Star every year and you bench him for the whatever crew (can't remember what Chuck called them) who became useless after the first half of the season anyways.

Also I found if funny that you were talking about the Nets before Carter. First of all, the Nets before Carter lost to the Pistons in 03-04. Secondly, while the Nets making the finals was very good, let's put it in perspective, the East was extremely weak then. That Nets team is not better than the Miami and Detroit the past two seasons, so I don't see what point you're trying to make with that.

The coach and GM need to be clear on things like that. Even if Vince was playing bad, if we were going to make the playoffs or do anything in the playoffs that season we would need him. Similarly, if you want to get value while trading him, you would have to play him, so benching him really did nothing for the team itself, it was the worst scenario for everyone involved.

Anyways, like I said, loyalty is not a word to use in this business. People always talk about players being loyal, yet it's perfectly fine that teams don't have this same obligation. Do you think it's fun for guys to have to pack their bags and move, and sometimes move their families. You know these guys have lives too, so IMO, screw loyalty, that's stupid to me in something like this which is such a business, and loyalty is not even a real concept. It's okay for the team to discard players to improve themselves, but the players now have an obligation to stay with the team when they are free agents?

Considering the constant complaint has been that he wants to defer to teamamtes he shouldn't be deffering to so much, I don't think that's a problem at all. I agree about the defense thing, Vince actually is not a "bad" defender, though not a good one, and if you guys have Dwight and Darko in the middle, help defense like that can make many guys look better than they actually are defensively (Check Rip Hamilton on the Pistons).

<div class="quote_poster">Quoting vcwannabe15:</div><div class="quote_post">Why you always hating on VC?</div>

Well I wouldn't say "hate" its more like frustrated. Fact is, I enjoy watching his highlights. But that doesn't translate to wins. It's frustrating to have Kidd, Carter and Jefferson and not go deep in the playoffs. Carter is a big part of the Nets offense. But like I keep stressing... Carter must learn to let the game come to him rather than forcing the issue so much. The Nets has one of the best trio's in the NBA if not the best. Carter has to think team first.

yea i mean its sad when kidd jefferson and carter can't beet a team that goes to the post with shaq where we need to double team him where he usually kicks out and he got screwed, its sad that we didnt have anyone quick enough to guard wade. its sad that our 6th man didnt play that series. as much as i hate to say it THE NETS WERENT DEEP ENOUGH LAST YEAR TO REALLY DO ANYTHING. we had absolutly no bench. and considering we lost to the champions its not that bad. enough if we did beat miami and detriot dallas would of out played us BECAUSE THERE SO DEEP. you cant blame it on carter that hes forcing it when otehr than jefferson our scoring is limited. face it kidd is a smart player but not a great jump shooter, and hes not what he use to be to drive it in. jefferson has a nice jumper and can get inside, collins cant play offense period. and nenad just disappered. so no its not vince's fault that we lost to miami, and im not at all surprised that we lost to miami.

You lost to the team that went on the win the championship. Unless you seriously thought Vince, RJ and Kidd + Krstic with no bench was the best team in the league, I don't know what you're complaining about. The East is better now, this isn't 2001-2003, having 3 good guys with no depth isn't going to get you to the finals, and even those Nets teams had depth.

What??? You expected to go "Deep into the playoffs" with a super trio and a pretty good forward in Nenad while the rest of your team consisted of 3rd rate players?? Not to mention Uncle Cliffy disappeared on account of the sticky stuff

And Carter is actually a team player....in fact, like everyone else says, he passes way too much sometimes...I don't know, but it just seems like you're finding reasons to pick on him or let out your frustrations on the "star player". So you blame the star player for losing? The Nets are not a deep team all they have is Carter, Kidd, Jefferson, and Krstic and you expect them to beat the Heat. The Nets even lost thier best bench player. If you're gonna blame someone it should be Clifford Robinson. This year was our chance for the title and what does Cilff do, he gets drugs and lets his team down by being suspended for the Heat/Nets series. We played great the first game when we had Robinson but when he got suspended we lost all momentum and team chemistry.

Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson had to do everything becasue Krsitc was struggling to probably cause he had Haslem guarding him. After we lost Cliff I knew it would be over for the Nets. It was practically Kidd, Carter, and Jefferson vs. the Miami Heat.

Now getting back to Vince, where were the Nets last year with Kidd and Jefferson? Last place in the atlantic division. Jefferson got injured and Kidd was recovering from surgery so they traded for Vince Carter. When VC got to New Jersey there was a big mess he had to clean up with Jefferson gone he took over avarging about 30 ppg. Carter had basically no one to work with Jefferson was out, Kidd was not 100%, and Krstic was a rookie. Vince played great, he played like and MVP type player and got the last place Nets to the playyoffs as the last seed. I don't know why you are putting all of the blame on Vince. Alot of people are saying VC can't carry a team but the truth is that he can.

I find that to be totally, true, you put it into the best perspective. I am a total raptors fan for life, but I appreciate everything Vince has done for the raps. Problem is that Vince tends to get blamed for everything even if he is the best player on the team. He will bring ppl to the playoffs but ppl will still hate him. How can someone expect NJ to beat the world champion Miami Heat? A team that has Shaq, Wade, Alonzo, Walker, Payton. Carter needs a lot more credit than he got, but I can totally see New Jersey fans blaming and hating on Carter, after these same fans, told us Raptor fans to suck it up when they got Vince and their team became elite because of it. Now if he does leave, they're gonna act exactly the same, hating on Vince.

*Waits for angry Nets fans*

As for Carter, if he is the leader than he should fully take the responsiblity. All true leaders blame themselves for the teams losses. That's one of the things that defines a leader. So don't say we shouldn't blame him. How many times has Kidd blamed himself when the Nets didn't win?

I'm also not hating on Carter but suggesting that we make a small change and let Kidd lead the charge. Who knows where we will end up? It might turn into chaos, or into a positive situation.
