A consolidation of the S2 Draft threads

One rule:

*Pick only one prospect, no 1a/1b plans

Trading into the top-5:
• Kon Knueppel

Pick #11:
• Jase Richardson

Hypothetical Orlando #16:
• Hugo Gonzalez

Trading into the second round:
• Neoklis Avdalas

Go!

We’ll roll the dice on a European prospect after we watched Advija sizzle this year

I don’t think so. Maybe a player like Murray

# 11
# 25
# Murray

to move up to #5

But we could instead offer #11, #16 (came from Orlando) and Murray. This means we keep #25 (came from Orlando) and rather than use this pick, add it to Grant (Grant #25) to move Grant

I like Knueppel before it was popular. But are we really valuing him at a top 5 pick these days?

I'm wondering....why not?

I mean, look at the two teams in the NBA finals: sure looks like if you can't find a superstar or a perennial all-star, there never has been more value than in 3&D. Knueppel is slotted 7th in consensus mock draft; so it's not just some Portland fans valuing him.

he may be a rich man's Alex Caruso with lots more 3 and a little less D. A Kyle Korver with better athleticism and more skills? 41% on three's and 57% on two's is impressive, especially when added to his 91.4% on FT's. And he gets to the FT line at a good rate; a 34% FTrate as a college freshman is impressive. So was his 64% TS rate. And, from what the scouting reports say, he has shown high-level PnR abilities, both as a ball-handler and roll-man

so yeah, he appears to have good upside value in the skills the NBA covets. Now, if you think him being around 7th in the consensus mock drafts means the draft is weak, ok. I'm just not sure that's valid

And if so, what does it say about this once-vaunted draft?
that it's business as usual for the draft sites. They know they wont generate as many clicks if they don't change things up regularly, so thats what they do every single year

STOMP

Top 5 -- is not available unless Portland overpays, and I don't know if it's worth it to do so. Edgecombe as a 2-way PG with good size. He would be it at 4 dealing with Charlotte with Scoot traded.
11 -- Cedric Coward -- he's a guy I see as a Spurs or OKC kind of pick. Always annoyed by both teams at the draft.
16 -- Since I don't see a Top 5 happening (unless it's included in big-name hunting), and based on the teams from 12-15, Egor Demin is at 16.

Carter Bryant looks really good (especially the D) and basketball plays, but Coward has shown more tools.
The Blazers had their eye on Clingan for years. And high interest for 2 years. He's their guy. If they wanted Salaun or Cody Williams, they would have gotten at least one of them. That's the way I see Essengue, though he's said to be more skilled than Salaun at that age.

Does Edgecombe really have PG skills? or was that a typo? Seems like a SG all the way.

He's a SG now, and soon enough he'll have the ball being 6'4 and athletic, scoring from 3 levels. He'll guard PGs on the Blazers. His handles and playmaker experience will have to catch up. I'm guessing he passes by Scoot and Ant.

might have a little; averaged 3.2 assists with a 19% assist rate. In college CJ averaged 2.7 assists with a 20% assist rate. I guess maybe he has tweener skills, rather than PG skills

Got to admit that 7'2 1/4 "wingspan for Coward is eye-catching for a guy who shoots like he does. That is plus 9 inches.

Way too premature. Scoot was a better prospect coming out.

I'm going to object to the rules. Because nobody can predict this draft after essentially the first 2 picks (and I maintain the Spurs might even surprise at #2, although it seems more likely they'd just trade with somebody who wanted Harper), there's no real point in saying one player for #11, unless there's a player whom you'd literally pick #1 if you had it but whom you think would be available at #11, which would be crazy. So I'm going to give a choice and my pick for #11 is the highest one still available on the night.

Essengue (he's this year's Risacher and looks like Nic Batum with a chip on his shoulder. Plus we're rapidly becoming the French-language team)
CMB (I'm torn - can you really play him alongside Clingan? Maybe if Clingan works on his 3 point shot)
Tie: Jase R. and Nique Clifford
Tie: Coward and Traore

But really there's a bunch I'd be happy with. As for the others, we're not trading up* (we'd have to give up Camara and I'm not sanctioning that) and there's bound to be somebody on my list available at the lower picks.

* Only possibility: Philly is bundling the #3 just to offload Paul George. If they'd accept one or more of our trio of vets, then I say VJ Edgecombe all the way, baby! And I'd give up the #11 too. (Tell George he can rehab in Philly - no hurry.)

11. Essengue, Kasparas, Demin

16. Jase, Fleming, Clifford, Coward

Some combination of these works for me.

I agree. And I’m probably wrong about what Edgecombe will become should he become a Trail Blazer.
Back to Coward (11) and Demin (16). To compensate for not having a Top 5 pick, Portland also gets the 25 and selects Maxime Raynaud.
