It is very unfortunate that our social services are to the point that they are over-burdened, under-funded, and grossly understaffed. But even if we had an extra 100,000 social service/counseling personnel in the City Of Portland before this guy went crazy, it is unlikely that it would have mattered much. Unless he is a direct threat to himself or others, there's just not a lot legally that anyone can do (unfortunately, it takes more than a FB post to be considered a threat or danger). And those laws are there for good reason: the protect patient privacy and the public's privacy.
However, it may be time to look into revamping the system. Although he we're going to do that without enormous tax payer dollars and tons of new laws is beyond me.
That was the single most objective, rational piece of journalism I have seen in the past 2 years. I wish more "journalists" were like this.
