I would like to see him next to a (hopefully) more pass happy PG than Dame. The year Dame was out, Ant had an absurd catch and shoot 3P percentage. With Dame in, they played more - my time, your time - Dame is a scoring guard first and most of his assists are not guards, but to the rollers from the pick and roll.
If Ant can regain his absurd off-the-ball catch and shoot percentage, it will be great.
you're welding Ant's catch & shoot numbers to Dame. I'd weld it to his number of attempts
* in 2020-21, Ant's eFG on C&S was 77.1% on 2.2 attempts/game
* in 2021-22, Ant's eFG on C&S was 71.5% on 4.0 attempts/game
* in 2022-23, Ant's eFG on C&S was 58.7% on 4.9 attempts/game
pretty clear correlation there
these are essentially all three point shots as well, so it's worth looking at Ant's assisted FG rate on three's
* in 2020-21, Ant's assisted FG Rate on three's was 71.0%
* in 2021-22, Ant's assisted FG Rate on three's was 65.4%
* in 2020-21, Ant's assisted FG Rate on three's was 68.4%
not sure that really tells us anything other than ascribing Ant's C&S conversion rate to playing with Dame seems a pretty big stretch. It also seems to be trying to revise history into Dame not being a willing or capable passer; he was 10th in the NBA in assist rate last season
something else too: right now, the only play-maker & facilitator Portland has on the team is Scoot...and maybe (
roll eyes) Keon. So in order to get Ant these great C&S opportunities you imagine Dame didn't get him is to be on the floor with Scoot....meaning either Sharpe is on the bench or he's playing out of position. People were worried about Dame/Scoot playing together; I'd suggest Ant/Scoot will be worse
