Measure 97

I am undecided on measure 97 tbh. I think it was poorly written, and i generally dont agree with taxes on sales. However, c corps already have minimum taxes based on sales, so that isnt changing. Its only increasing for those that make more than $25 million in sales.
Mega corporations are mostly c corps. Your mom and pop shops will not be directly affected because most of them are s corps, sole props, sometimes partnerships, and/or will be less than 25 million in gross sales.

Could it raise prices? Maybe. Not as much as people are trying to make it sound like though. Most of these big corps are already paying calculated tax, so they wouldnt pay minimum tax anyways.

I could do a great logs to paper Christmas tree decorations to explain why this is a bad tax.

$600 per year is simply a lie.

I really enjoy the ballot measure system and wish we could do it on a federal level. Bills would be much simpler, pork and pet projects would be eliminated or at least brought out into the open, and Washington would finally get some shit done.

AND, that 1st 24,999,999.99 is tax free.

So again, fuck them.

Why is a solution to your aggression to business to tax them? Just seems completely wrong. They WILL pass the cost onto the consumers, or rid themselves of employees. They will not simply just eat this tax. Costco is a great example... employs TONS of local workforce and generally is a pretty great company (reputation wise), they will suffer from this tax.

Couldn't we find a better way to get money for the public employee unions (who basically created this measure). You know these Government people are just going to squander this money. They do not have to spend it on your precious communities or schools.

It's like more class warfare. Make money and you are evil. Fucking stupid ass mentality.

Why defend the people who are fucking us?

Comcast is literally bending us over for Blazer games.

Monsanto said THE SAME SHIT when we told them to label GMOs. "We'll pass it on to the consumer"

Well FUCK YOU Monsanto!

CALL!! :smiley-irked:

Newsflash:

The rich have been playing class warfare on us for decades. Turnabout is fair play.

That last statement is ironic as hell. Some folks might say "work in the public sector and you're evil as hell." So yeah, it's definitely class warfare......

So what happens when everyone figures out how to make less than 25M. And Oregon gets jack shit?

The whole measure is stupid.

Big corps paying the calculated tax are not gonna pass anything onto the consumers cause this wont affect them.

Not defending. It's just not a good bill.

But hey, that's why we vote on this shit. Open public discourse is great.

SUCCEED if you hate it so much instead of complaining about others.

If this doesn't pass, I hope to see something similar (but better written) in two years. Much like recreational marijuana when it first failed, despite heavy support, because people realized the initial measure was poorly written, so they tweaked it based on the feedback from the public, then put it back on and it passed easily.

This.

Newsflash IDGAF what you think or say... it's why I have you on ignore. Sigh until you can't breathe...

I'm also fucking SICK of people trying to get me to swallow trickle down economics (this time in reverse).

I'm calling their bluff.

Ha! Yes I see, you are ignoring MarAzul.

Oh god... You sound like a whining poor person now.

SUCCEED if you hate it so much.

And you sound like the guy who would yell:

"GET A JOB!!"

To a homeless person all while ignoring the FACT that to be employed you need and address and phone...

Here's another newsflash

Most rich people are so monied because they're a part of the lucky sperm club. They're not job creators. You and I are because we like bourbon.

Pay. The. Fuck. Up.

So we tax them and they impose higher prices on us so we tax them so they impose higher prices on us.

It's a never ending fucking circle and yet they still do what they do.

There has to be a more creative way to do what you want to do.

Instead of making up more taxes. They need to fix the loopholes of keeping money offshore, for a LOT of things.

I like it! Write the ballot measure. I'll help get the signatures needed to get it on the ballot.

This is going to be a really bad and oversimplified example but it's good enough to make my point.

A company at the coast collects sand to sell to different businesses.

They sell sand to a sand and gravel company in the Willamette valley. + 2.5% tax.

Sand and gravel company sells it to a large glass maker. + 2.5% tax.

Glass maker sells raw glass to a bottle maker. + 2.5% tax.

Bottle maker makes bottles and sells them to a large wine distributor. +25% tax

Wine distributor sells the bottles to a winery. +2.5% tax

Winery sells bottled wine to store chain. +2.5% tax

Store chain sells to customer. We get stuck paying a tax on a tax that's on a tax that's on another tax.

This example is broken. One, wineries sell to distributors, not the other way around. Two, maybe one or two wineries here in Oregon has revenues above $25 million. But it's probable we don't have any with that level of revenue.

See how dumb that sounds?

Comcast, Monsanto, IBM, and Nike are somehow gonna make less money.... No they're gonna find a way to make less money...

Doesn't sound plausible huh?

Tell the wineries to work harder, dammit.

I knew this was a bad example. I just like wine and sand.
