I am undecided on measure 97 tbh. I think it was poorly written, and i generally dont agree with taxes on sales. However, c corps already have minimum taxes based on sales, so that isnt changing. Its only increasing for those that make more than $25 million in sales.
Mega corporations are mostly c corps. Your mom and pop shops will not be directly affected because most of them are s corps, sole props, sometimes partnerships, and/or will be less than 25 million in gross sales.

Could it raise prices? Maybe. Not as much as people are trying to make it sound like though. Most of these big corps are already paying calculated tax, so they wouldnt pay minimum tax anyways.

They will not simply just eat this tax. Costco is a great example... employs TONS of local workforce and generally is a pretty great company (reputation wise), they will suffer from this tax.

Couldn't we find a better way to get money for the public employee unions (who basically created this measure). You know these Government people are just going to squander this money. They do not have to spend it on your precious communities or schools.

A company at the coast collects sand to sell to different businesses.

They sell sand to a sand and gravel company in the Willamette valley. + 2.5% tax.

Sand and gravel company sells it to a large glass maker. + 2.5% tax.

Glass maker sells raw glass to a bottle maker. + 2.5% tax.

Bottle maker makes bottles and sells them to a large wine distributor. +25% tax

Wine distributor sells the bottles to a winery. +2.5% tax

Winery sells bottled wine to store chain. +2.5% tax

Store chain sells to customer. We get stuck paying a tax on a tax that's on a tax that's on another tax.

This example is broken. One, wineries sell to distributors, not the other way around. Two, maybe one or two wineries here in Oregon has revenues above $25 million. But it's probable we don't have any with that level of revenue.
