YepI'm assuming the "this is where I want to retire" statement was followed with an implied "If they pay me enough to stay".
I don't think money is real problem with Melo at this time of his career.I'm assuming the "this is where I want to retire" statement was followed with an implied "If they pay me enough to stay".
Kanter wanted to stay too. Aldridge wanted to stay. Lopez wanted to stay. Frye wanted to stay
these are really easy words to say in January, but in July, the temperature is different. Once the discussions turn to money, things often change. What Melo wants from a next contract might not come close to what's best for Portland in a next contract. And of course, some other team can come into this and offer Melo an option Portland won't come close to matching, for various reasons
that said, I'd think the Blazers have a decent chance here. They were the team that gave him a fair shot with Dame & CJ advocating for Melo. That has to count for something. But Portland will likely only have the MLE to offer so it could come down to who else is available and how much the Blazers would be willing to give to somebody who'd be a backup. If Portland isn't worried about being hard-capped, they could offer him the BAE (close to 4M IIRC?) and still have the full MLE
Aldridge did not want to stay. At all.
That's the most I personally would spend towards Melo. Portland needs to be very judicious spending their MLE money.that said, I'd think the Blazers have a decent chance here. Agreed. But LMA publicly stated that he did. As Wiz stated, comments made in January don't mean a whole lot.Aldridge did not want to stay. At all.
Melo's stint in Houston stained him. His time here is washing that clean, and the rest of the league is seeing it.Remember 29 other teams didn't come calling for Melo only the Blazers did so I figured that will be the case this summer.

I wonder how much he expects a year? What does the market dictate for an approximately 15-5-3 player? I would consider resigning. Melo is something else with the ball in the midrange: strong to the rim, great shooter, and outstanding at drawing fouls. After all that's what makes him a shoe-in first ballot HOF'er. You know what you are getting with him.
