Segura hit .320 last year, led the NL in hits, and is a good defensive player to boot. He was an NL All-Star.

How would you not consider him a star?

He had a good year. Hardly a star. Just look at what Arizona gave up for him The year before.

He changed his swing before last year though. Last year was no fluke.

Who else is appealing other than Butler though?
Not interested in anyone else. I still think there is a chance if it is the three-way trade with Philadelphia which clears space for us to absorb both of their bad contracts (Wade and Rondo); I don't think Boston has a way of doing that. Not likely to happen, but there's always a chance.

Like what? How can we clear over $50M?

Crabbe, Leonard, Ezeli, and Davis only clear $42M

And somehow we'll get them to trade Butler for only draft picks and cap space? Not happening.

Most MLB teams have the prospect depth to trade for a star player. Not the case with NBA teams.
There is some truth to that. Cleveland earlier traded 4 really good prospects for Andrew Miller. But MLB teams cannot trade draft picks so I think it evens out.

And it was the trade of the year. By Francona using Miller as a long reliever in the playoffs, he basically sent them to the WS.

Bones Jones, I am so disappointed in you, you have not been clicking on my trade links. I always click on yours! I have posted this one at least twice today.

This one has Lopez in it since he has one year more on his contract than Rondo, but
Rondo has about the same salary so that works also. My idea is we get a draft pick from Philly to add to Chicago stash but once they smell we need this three way I doubt they would do that. Of course Chicago would have the option of taking any or all of Napier, Connaughton and Layman, plus probably 4 first round draft picks. If they played Davis and re-established his value, they could trade him for another pick, he has a great contract. This also nets them Okafor. To summarize, we get rid of two expensive almost dead contracts (Wade going downhill fast) for them, give them young Harkless at a very reasonable contract, Okafor, Vonleh, 4 draft picks and any of our other tidbits they might be interested in.

Wow, I'll definitely give you credit for the scope of your ambition. It's not often you see 10 player trades.

But there's two gigantic problems here:

1. I don't think Chicago would deal Butler for just draft picks, cap space and Okafor. (The rest of the stuff they're getting, like Davis and Harkless, is inconsequential.)

2. Even if they would, I think you're seriously miscalculating in calling Wade and Lopez "dead contracts." Neither is signed for a long time (2 years for Wade, 3 years for Lopez) and both are still productive. Wade almost has a 20 PER! (PER is not the end-all and be-all, of course, but it also doesn't suggest that Wade is finished.) Lopez is at 15, a solidly average figure. Both players are perfectly tradeable and neither is going to doom the Bulls.

So it boils down to Butler plus two aging but still productive players for draft picks, Okafor, Vonleh, Harkless and Davis. I just can't see how Chicago even considers it.

Saw this on Twitter. He might not be the best fit next to Nurkic but with favorable contract, and if we can get him cheaply, he'd be a good rotation piece. Nurkic would play in the first unit and provide defence, Okafor would play in the second unit and add scoring when Dame and/or CJ are not on the floor. It's a good idea if he's cheap enough. If he can be obtained with Leonard/Crabbe plus Cleveland's or Memphis' pick, it'd be a great deal, especially as it'd also allow us to shed some salary (Leonard's preferable). We'd basically get two talented young centers for Plumlee.

We'll address the SF/PF issue with draft picks I believe. So much talent at PF is supposed to go between 11 and 20.

What can we get for 3 first round picks and an expiring contract in Fes?

We also have throw ins on reasonable deals like Noah/Aminu/Ed.

I'm digging this. We finally have some movable assets.

DMC?
Butler?

IS NO ready to move AD?

Not even close to that value.
none of those for the 3 picks, not even close
Ya, we're looking more in the Ibaka/Millsap kinda range. Really want to shed that AC contract in a deal as well if we can manage it. That way, we can afford to drop big $ on these UFA bigs.

I like a Dame-CJ-ET-Ibaka-Nurk lineup for the next 3 yrs. Gonna be hella expensive tho.

Just one correction, and I should have switched the ESPN thing; I actually have Rondo in there instead of Lopez. I don't believe Rondo is tradeable, had too many chances. Wade's production still OK but down and dropping fast on free throws drawn, needs a lot of rest, even allowed not to practice regularly. at 23 million difficult to trade in my opinion, but who knows?

Well, I'd certainly agree that Rondo, at this point, is a deadweight contract.

Folks, our picks are projected to be #13, #23 and #28 now. Cleveland will not move any higher up, Memphis might move to #20 or #21 if we are lucky as Washington, Toronto and Atlanta are good teams and could end with better record. We ourselves could probably move a few places if Dallas and Miami keep winning or Sacramento, New York or Milwaukee start winning but the pick right now will be treated as #13 or even non-lottery if we get a good player for it.

You are not getting an All-Star for one late lottery pick and two non-lottery picks unless you add a good player in the process. If we shed salary by trading Crabbe or Leonard (which I think is what we SHOULD be looking to do now, hence Okafor for one of them suggestion), then we may be able to get someone good in the Summer just before draft. Indiana got Thad Young for a #21 pick I think, Atlanta essentially traded Teague for #12 so there are some good deals to be made, just not now and not for an All-Star. A top 10 pick will get you something serious, a late first rounder will not get you anything great at this point.

The Blazers have a lot of holes to fill, with zero cap space to work with.

If NO can move up in the draft, great. But I also like our chances with a shopping bag full of first round draft picks.

Bring in a new crop of go-getters this summer and let them compete with our laid back overpaid vets.

Denver and Portland really did play colangelo, no other way to explain why Okafor still hasn't been traded. Hahahha.

My "guess" is. The three team trade rumor, probably 76ers, Nuggets and Blazers, was true.

But the Nuggets and Blazers decided they could cut the 76ers out and make a better deal between themselves.

And 76ers are asking way too much for Okafor, and the reason he has not been traded, yet.

Yeah, I'd also guess that the 76ers are asking too much for Okafor. They're probably trying to value him, on the trade market, as a star prospect, even though his play since being drafted speaks to a significantly lower floor and ceiling than he was expected to have going into the draft.

I think we will still be talking with them about Okafor. He will likely end up at Bulls though.

He's been in the league for only a year and his stats are not bad at all. His offensive game is quite good, he is a bit of a liability on the defense but still young enough to improve. He was supposed to be #1 in the draft last year and was still talked about as success around this time last year. Suddenly when Embiid came back and showed much more, Okafor is no longer the flavor of the month.

Whoever gets him will get a good deal IMO. The rumors about him going for Ajinca and a lotto protected pick show that his value is probably quite low and someone should bite. I hope it's us but realistically it won't be. I wonder what Bulls could offer them that would make it worthwhile for 76ers though, as they are supposed to be favourites.

If that's the case, then most likely Nurik was going to go to Philly with Okafor coming to PDX. NO probably decided the difference in cost between Nurik & Okafor wasn't worth it.

I am down for Ibaka, but do we really need to give up (3) 1st's and Crabbe +?

IF giving up that much,. How much more for DMC?
Vonleh/Harkless/Crabbe/Leonard plus (3) 1st's?

They could be asking for too much, but teams don't usually pull a guy from playing unless something is imminent. The timing is just curious. Okafor gets pulled, Denver and Portland get linked, then the next day two of those teams make a separate deal? Idk.

The numbers don't agree that his offensive game is quite good. His scoring efficiency is meh and his Offensive Rating is poor. I'd agree that he has offensive potential, but his post scoring was supposed to be NBA-ready from day 1. Struggling on the offensive end is pretty bad news when he's a poor defender and a mediocre rebounder.

He's young and it's early in his NBA development--the skills he showed in college could still translate (and I think they will to some extent). But I think being one of the dominant scorers in the NBA should no longer be an expectation.
