Merged: |0fficial| Trade Deadline

Welcome to our community

Be a part of something great, join today!

AD is wasting away on that team, but he's still young and I don't think they'll move him.
Tim Frazier is our secret agent. This will happen soon enough.

Dame on AD:
"In my head, it was like, 'They're going to draft A.D. and I could be the point guard.' Me and him talked. We stay in touch with each other. I'm a huge fan of his and we've become pretty good friends. So, that was definitely what I was thinking could happen at that time."

Also from this summer:

Seems to me the most realistic guys on the market who fit our needs are

Lopez
Noel
Cousins

But we would have to give up a pretty penny to get any of them. For starters, it would seem that CJ or Crabbe would be on the move. I think one of the reasons we re-signed Crabbe is that he can step into CJ's role if the right deal comes up.

Let the blasphemy begin!

That's pretty much what I have been saying for a year now. I like CJ, but I'm not sold on a small backcourt and we have the depth at shooting guard to absorb that loss. CJ is worth more than Noel though. Quite a bit more. The problem is that CJ is a PPP right now, which makes him VERY hard to trade.

PPP?

Also, CJ isnt playing as well tight now than last year. Does that decrease his value, or turn some teams off thinking he may regress? I dont think CJ's value is as much as it was last year.

Except that of those, we only have rumors about one of them. There has been ZERO indication that Brooklyn wants to trade Lopez or that Sacto wants to trade Cousins. Monroe is obviously available, and equally obviously undesirable. Even Kanter is probably unavailable now they traded Ilyasova (probably to force the coach to play Kanter more).

For all those people saying "they'd probably want CJ" - most of the players you're talking about, the player they'd ask for is Lillard. CJ is nice, but he's an Eric Gordon/Bradley Beal kind of guy, and those guys wouldn't land you a premier big man.

Poison Pill Provision

http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q90

"Poison Pill" isn't a defined term in the CBA, but there are a couple situations that are commonly referred to as a poison pill -- meaning a contract clause that creates a potential difficulty because the cap accounting can vary from the norm.

The first is when a team extends a first round draft pick's rookie scale contract (see question number 60) and then trades the player between the date the extension is signed and the date it takes effect. When this happens, the player's trade value for the receiving team is the average of the salaries in the last year of the rookie scale contract and each year of the extension. The sending team uses the player's actual salary when calculating their total outgoing salary, and uses the current-year maximum salary in place of the (unknown) maximum salary for a future season, if necessary.

For example, if a player on the last year of his rookie scale contract earns $2 million in 2011-12, and his contract is extended for four seasons starting at $10 million, with 4.5% raises, then his salary in each season will be:

Season Salary
2011-12 $2,000,000
2012-13 $10,000,000
2013-14 $10,450,000
2014-15 $10,900,000
2015-16 $11,350,000
If this player is traded during the 2011-12 season, then his outgoing salary from the sending team's perspective is his actual salary -- $2 million. But the player's incoming salary from the receiving team's perspective is $8.94 million -- the average of all five seasons. Such a player would be very difficult to trade -- a legal trade can only be accomplished if both teams add additional salary to the transaction, or if they include a third team that is able to absorb excess salary.

The Gilbert Arenas provision (see question number 45) has also been described as containing a poison pill. This is in reference to the third season of contracts signed according to this provision, which can contain a substantially larger salary than the first two seasons. Houston used this provision to its advantage when signing Jeremy Lin and Omer Asik in 2012.

I see John Henson had the DNP last night for the Bucks. His minutes are dwindling. Not a huge fan but others on this site seem to be. He would come cheaper...

He has a $12M contract and is not worth that IMO. Much rather get Brook for a bigger price.

Hey, Dame and AD are on the same level now.

One of them saying this is enough.

Unfortunately there's zero chance they trade him. He just started his new contract. He's still young. He's a top 10 player in the league when he's healthy. No chance they trade him, and if they did, we don't have enough to pry him away.

Holy SHIT he's hittin' swish3s now!?

Did you see him yank Andre Drummond's crankle at 2:00?

Shit..... If he could stay healthy...

WTF???? When did Lopez add the 3 to his game? He hit as many 3-pointers in the first half of that game than in his previous 8 NBA seasons combined.

He looked great in that game. Hitting the 3s forced Drummond to come out on him, which then allowed Lopez to drive around him. He's always had a great low post game (some great drop step and up and and moves on that video, too) and a solid midrange game. I'll want to see him make some more 3s before I crown him the best (ar at least the most versatile) offensive center in the league.

Although he also had 11 rebounds and 2 blocks in that game, he's always been a weak rebounder for his size and a pretty bad defender. It's always seemed ironic to me that him and his twin brother seem to have the exact opposite skill sets.

He's actually been pretty healthy the last two seasons. He played 72 games two years ago and 73 last year - and would have played more, but once BRK was mathematically eliminated from the payoffs, they shut him down.

In fact, he's played at least 2100 minutes in 6 of his 8 NBA Seasons. The two seasons he missed significant minutes were 2011-12 and 2013-14.

Think BRK still wants Crabbe???

Well, now we have rumors about two of them (and some speculation about the 3rd).

From ESPN's Marc Stein:

"It's been an eventful week for Nets center Brook Lopez.

The 7-footer made an undeniable splash Wednesday with 34 points -- highlighted by four 3-pointers -- in surprising Brooklyn's 109-101 victory Wednesday night over Detroit. The flurry of triples made headlines because Lopez came into the game having sank just four previous 3s in 490 regular-season games.

But what's happening behind the scenes is newsy, too. Some rival executives are increasingly convinced that the Nets are open to moving Lopez between now and the February deadline in the proverbial right deal.

Rumblings of Boston interest have been forcefully shot down by sources familiar with the Celtics' thinking, but the situation bears monitoring -- and not simply because the Celts could ultimately decide that a big in-season move is wisest in the event they can't create as much cap space next summer as they once hoped.

Sources stressed to ESPN.com in recent days that they believe as it stands, the Nets are merely fielding calls and doing their due diligence. Listening to other teams, in other words, as opposed to shopping the former All-Star center.

The reality, though, is that Lopez, at 28, is the Nets' most tradeable asset, thanks in part to the fact he has another full season (at $22.6 million) left on his contract after this one.

Yet it should be noted that even after Lopez appeared in 73 games last season, the Nets have already held him out of one back-to-back in a nod to the big man's history of foot troubles and are openly weighing whether to hold him out of more."

And, on Nerlens Noel:

"The Raptors are among the teams that have expressed interest in Philadelphia's very available Nerlens Noel, but sources say Toronto's initial preference in the wake of losing Jared Sullinger (foot) to injury is to give more minutes to various younger players (such as rookies Pascal Siakam and Jakob Poeltl) so they get first crack at filling the void. ... Oklahoma City's Steven Adams landed a 7.5 percent trade kicker in his new four-year, $100 million contract extension, meaning he gets a 7.5 percent bonus from his existing salary if he's dealt during the course of the next deal that kicks in next season. The official numbers on Gorgui Dieng's extension in Minnesota, meanwhile, came in at $62.8 million over four years. ... Jerry Colangelo's decision not to seek a third term as USA Basketball chairman won't have any impact on his role with the senior men's national team. He remains Team USA's managing director after assuring Gregg Popovich that he would continue to essentially serve as the team's GM through the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo, something Colangelo promised when Popovich agreed to succeed Mike Krzyzewski as Team USA coach.

And, might as well through Boogie into the mix, from Stein's October 28 predictions column:

"5. February will be dominated by DeMarcus Cousins speculation.

Can’t promise you that the Kings will actually trade Cousins. If you insist on squeezing a firm prediction out of us on this one, as we speak on Oct. 28, I’d have to say he’ll stay.

Sacramento is determined to make the playoffs this season, or at least a credible playoff run, which somewhat compels the Kings to keep their best player.

But the reality is that Cousins has only one season left on his current contract after this one. If the Kings keep him beyond Feb. 23, they better be sure they can re-sign him, because they’re sure to fetch less in return for Expiring Contract Boogie."

And on the Blazers from that same column:

"
6. Portland is the surest team to make a trade this season.

The Blazers have an aggressive front office and more wings (Allen Crabbe, Evan Turner, Moe Harkless) and bigs (Mason Plumlee, Meyers Leonard and Festus Ezeli) than they need.

So keep an eye on them.

The suspicion among numerous league observers is that the Blazers' non-stop spending this past offseason was asset collection as much as anything. Scan through all those names again and it's clear Portland has no shortage of options to thrust itself into all kinds of trade talks as GM Neil Olshey continues to shape the roster around backcourt bedrocks Lillard and C.J. McCollum."

Lopez will definitely be available. Nets are a mess, he has given them a lot of good years and it is time to move on. They badly need younger players and some assets.

PPP?

Also, CJ isnt playing as well tight now than last year. Does that decrease his value, or turn some teams off thinking he may regress? I dont think CJ's value is as much as it was last year.
He's averaging the same PPG on the same if not better EFG%.. How is he playing worse?

. First off, Eric Gordon, Aminu and Kaman netted Chris Paul from the Clippers so if CJ has that level of value won't land you a premier big? I know Paul is a PG but he was looked at as the best PG in the league at the time.

Bradley Beal is nowhere as close to as valuable as McCollum. He's never averaged 20 ppg, and he's made of glass and is never healthy.

Who would we give up to match Lopez? Meyers for sure, but we'd do need to trade away another $7M. Plumlee isn't enough money to trade back, and Ezeli is our only good defensive big so don't wanna trade him. Problem is, Plumlee, Lopez, and Ezeli are all centers and that's an insane logjam right there.

BTW we cannot trade Crabbe to Brooklyn I think because he accepted the offer sheet there.

And CJ for anyone but Cousins would be terrible business. Please don't even suggest giving him to Philly for anyone.

This is a key point and it will be the case until July.

As well as the 15% trade kicker. It makes AC's contract 4 yrs, 86 mil instead of 4 yrs, 75 mil. Madness. Fuck you, BK.

AC is for all intents and purposes-- untradeable.

Meyers and Aminu or Davis. Makes perfect sense for both teams.

IMO we are stuck with Crabbe for considerable future but that is not bad, he has great potential. We might utilize him at small forward sometimes, he will get a lot of minutes as first back up at guard.

We will move other assets. Aminu, Davis, Meyers, Plumlee and maybe Turner will all be tradeable.

Just the eye test. seems to be dribbling too much, forcing more and looks less comfortable. Up until the last game his FG% was pretty low too wasnt it?

Can you imagine Brook on our team. An offensive Center opening up our shooters.

Who do they want? This move would make us a contender instantly! (depending on what we have to give up.)

Maybe a three way trade helps us more, possibly philly.

How so? Offence isn't our issue as has been pointed out over and over again. I'm sorry, he isn't defensive minded enough. To make him work we need to completely change the game we play I think and then would still suck at D.

Ive really come to believe in order to make our current core work, we need a defensive presence in the paint. Huge presence. No two ways about it. Anything else will not really help this team.

I don't see it for Brooklyn. It depends on the offer, but if they're dumping their best player they probably want high draft picks and cap space, not average players on average deals.

Maybe we can orchestrate a 3-way deal so that they can get someone like Nerlens Noel? [Edit: I see rotary111 just suggested that too.]

If Dallas stays bad they could blow it up as well, Bogut for a year for some inside presence/rim protection?

He's not actually that bad. Check this out.

Note that he is right there with Tyson Chandler, Ezeli and Joakim Noah, and above players with good-to-great defensive reputations like:
Al Horford
Marc Gasol (DPOY)
Omer Asik
Dwight Howard
Tristan Thompson
..and he's 17 places above his brother, who was pretty good for our defense when he was here.

Also: last year he was tenth in the league in blocked shots.

Offense from a big isn't a problem for this team? Really?
I think your underestimating his presence inside. Great locker room guy, at least he must be with the teams he's had to suffer through. Win win for us.
