Merged: Blazers control of media content....

Something was not right when Crawford was on the team. I do not have any inside info to explain his opting out. When you consider how the roster exploded a couple of seasons later, I am not sure Crawford was the problem.

What I do remember is. Crawford bragged about being a good PG in school. So he was asked to play PG. He did not like playing PG in the NBA and did not perform well. The fans gave him shit about that.

Just off the top, ROLO. Probably NBA 6th man of the year before and after being a Blazer, J. Crawford.

Edit: To be fair, I believe Crawford left about the same time Neil was hired as GM. Not sure Crawford's leaving is on him.

ROLO was/is a good player, but I believe the consensus was that we were starting over and going young and to resign the vets did not make sense. So no Neil did not want to resign ROLO and I don't remember any of us disagreeing with it at the time.

If he was fired for having negative opinions of the Blazers, how does Jaynes still have a job then? He's constantly critical of the team. Maybe they didn't like his ascot?

Maybe everyone was in shock that LMA left, and ROLO was a sidebar topic that got ignored. I never wanted ROLO to leave, and would love to have him on the roster right now.

Rolo mailed it in for a couple months after coming back from injury...didn't help us in the playoffs much at all....now Chicago is saying the roster is mailing it in...no coincidence?

Something was not right when Crawford
Raymond Felton was too fat to play the point much....Kaleb started coaching..Luke Babbitt was the go to guy....not quite what Jamal signed on for...he was real close to McMillan from their Seattle roots.....just a horrible year of snowballing injuries and shake up.....I never had a problem with him.

If there is any truth about this being the reason for his firing, Chris McGowan needs to go. Shameful.

I mentioned this a week or so ago and Ropp isn't the only one that has mentioned this....just the only one to do it this publicly. I completely believe that when Olshey's time here is up, you will hear a number of people with a suddenly different view then they are 'allowed' to give out now. Right not, the Blazers want a certain narrative and put vast pressure on those who don't fall in line.

Neil also is one who holds a grudge I've been told and never lets anything go.

Sounds like a soap opera....
This is the beginning of the end. Thought we were over this Steve Patterson/John Nash bullshit.

More media saying NO is a bully

This is the most incoherent podcast I have every heard. 10 minutes of torture and shut it down. The one dude is so high on "cookies" his mind is missing, probably forever.

Ya he sounds drunk. Shut it off after the story about NO calling out the guy's credentials.

LMAO! Humm, do you work for the Blazers??? Just wondering....

Obviously, I'm not the only one that likes their show, AND, I have NEVER tried to "push" my ideas on someone else. I watched the show today, and commented on what I saw/heard. I have liked Isaac for a LONG time. You have your opinion, and even if it is different from mine, I can respect that. Don't try to make it sound like I have some agenda against the team.....

I don't work for the blazers I just have two ears and a soul. Read the transcript of what Isaac said, he just whined like a child about getting fired cause he thinks Neil got him fired. When in reality he's just an unbearable person and the blazers and their partners have shown that they will improve the broadcasting surrounding the team even if it means ruffling a few feathers.

You made the thread, you are pushing the idea that it is true by your actions and admissions.

Comcast just got the Blazers to re-up on a big deal with them...you're either naive or have never worked in business if you didn't expect the Blazers to demand more control over the product as part of the reason they returned.

The Blazers, like every other NBA team, are a business and frankly can choose to run it however they wish. I don't know if they have improved recently, but you don't have to look further than the 10's of articles written about OKC during the Durant days to see that the lid they keep on their players and the media's access to the them to see something worse than NO trying to control some of the narrative out there.

We all know what it's like in this small market, the narrative and perception of the team is WAYYYYYYY more important to the Blazers than to a team like say the Lakers or the Spurs. To be honest, the media has brought this on themselves. For years Quick and the Bald-Faced Fuck ran amok digging up every small story they could to get clicks/reads rather than writing quality content. I like Ropp and Suke, but I think the Blazers are 100% within their right to want to control the narrative in this environment.

Thank you.

Lol at this thread

He (Ropp) expressed empathy for fellow media personnel, naming CSNNW’s Jason Quick specifically, saying he [Quick] was forced to “do a dance” with Olshey “watching everything he does or tweets or says”. Quick responded to a comment on Ropp’s Twitter thread, seeming to acknowledge the predicament.

Lollll is Quick next on the chopping block?

Both ropp and Olshey come off as extremely whiny to me, I wouldn't miss either one, but at the same time it wouldn't be fair to fire them just because they criticize something.

I don't think that's true. I hear MB's voice on commercials all the time. Bi-Mart, a pizza place (Belagios??), etc.

Are these just voice overs, or actual endorsements? Voice overs are generally based on vocal talent; endorsements on reputation. One clue: does he actually identify himself as Mike Barrett, or do you just recognize his voice?

I wouldn't be surprised if he's doing voice overs. He has a clear, easy to understand, non-annoying voice. I would be surprised if he's still getting endorsement work - not that he got a lot when he was working for the Blazers, but I seem to remember at least one commercial he had for a local car dealership when he was working for the Blazers.

I'm a fan of Ropp, but maybe CSN was looking to cut costs. Maybe Ropp's tweet etc was an easy excuse to fire him. Nobody watches CSN outside the Blazer games and the Blazers pre/post shows. They cant possibly be making much money on selling advertising/commercials in the programming they actually control.

Btw this could explain why the local media is ultra sensitive when trade rumors are brought up.

Not that I love Quick, but please dear god, why NOT Dwight Jaynes. What incriminating dirt does he have on Neil Olshey and/or Paul Allen that keeps him employed?

BNM

They probably know no one takes the old man seriously.

LOL, I almost posted the same thing. They know everybody hates Jaynes and he has no credibility. So, he's a harmless token voice of dissent.

Why did Quick take the Comcast job anyway? He hated covering the Blazers before he started to cover the Ducks, then loved covering the Ducks, and then became miserable again when he went back to covering the Blazers for the Oregonian. Why did he decide to keep on covering them by joining Comcast?

Possibly his only alternative? Not sure, but at least it's a steady paycheck.

It's sad that we are stuck with d-bags like Crapzano, Quick, and Jaynes here in Portland.

I remember when Jaynes got fired by the Oregonian. He wrote for the free Portland Tribune (not sure if he even got paid for that) and tried to start his own blog. As you can imagine, it was a miserable failure. He's so out of touch with technology, and well pretty much everything else that's happened since the Nixon administration, that went over about as well as me deciding I want to become an Abercrombie & Fitch model in my 50s.

Why, oh why, Comcrap decided to resurrect his career is beyond me. Guess they feel they need a grumpy old guy that no one takes seriously on the show as a foil for the guys who actually know what the fuck they are talking about.

Can you do me a favor, I'm really busy today but there is some confusion in the forum. Can you explain what McGowen is in charge of and overseas vs Olshey. That should really occur before we lynch anyone up.
