This is completely opposite of what I'm thinking. We just gave up a double digit bench shooter for nothing except $. Goes against what Neil said all of last year about retaining assets.

Without improvement, Crabbe was a replacement level player making over 17m for 3 more years. We would have been better off just not matching last year, but what's done is done. We're weren't getting anything of significance for him either besides tax relief.

Trading Crabbe to open up "luxury tax space" for Ryan Anderson would make Portland better, but would make no progress towards opening up the "luxury tax space" for Nurkic's extension. Unless Allen is fine with going very, very deep into the tax.

Before we matched his contract, there would have been a slew of complaints we lost him for nothing, we got worse by losing a key player, that he was a big part of our overachieving season that we wanted to build on, etc.
