Re: The Roy situation

If I ever see Bill Simmons on the street I am going to kick that guy right in the gnads.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

I'm just really wondering at what point do we get to point fingers at the training staff, because injury after injury after injury, many of them considered "lingering", can't possibly be a coincidence.
A lot of us have wondered about the training and medical staff for a long time. We have good reason to wonder. I also wonder, as someone else wondered a while back, about the Blazers practice facility floor. The Ducks used to have horrible injury problems until they changed their football field turf. Is the practice facility simply maple planks on a concrete slab or what? What is wrecking these guys' bodies? Knees, backs, our players are taking a beating.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

Where is everybody??? This thread better be bigger than the MIXUM thread.
That thread was a lot more fun. What is there to say, really?

They said on the radio the doctors were going to review some months-old imaging on Roy's knee. It's only the first month of the season. Imaging rarely tells the whole story. Why not just scope his damn knee now and get it over with?

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

Pretty amazing for the Blazers' training staff to have been able to have had an impact on Roy's knees before he became a Blazer. Those guys must really suck at what they do.

That argument might work if it were only BRoy, but virtually every player that has spent significant time on this team has suffered a major injury (except for one of our stars and I won't say who because I don't want to curse him).

Batum? Injured.

Joel? Injured.

Greg? lol... yeah

Roy? Yes.

Martell was here how long and that foot injury was a fiasco.

Travis? Same problem as Martell.

I think we've seen some extremely poor judgment on the part of the training staff over the years, and they need to be held accountable.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

Well, like I said, he's going to have to become a pure shooter. He's going to have to get much better as a catch-and-shoot player. He's going to have to move without the ball. Basically he's going to have to become Ray Allen.
Maybe a little like Paul Pierce, and pick his spots?

Roy is definitely going to have to learn to trust his teammates. And his teammates are going to have an opportunity to step up.

I was actually thinking about this last night in my car listening to the game on the radio. Roy wasn't playing and I was thinking (hoping) that Roy would eventually realize he needs to voluntarily adjust his game, and with Roy being forced to play reduced minutes until his knees get better his teammates would take it upon themselves to take up the slack and get into a groove. That's not far fetched. Then I thought about the fact Nate would have to adjust his coaching style and offense, and my bubble burst. But hey, it could happen, right?

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

Really??? We just discovered that Roy has serious knee problems and may require surgery. And it looks like Oden may have lingering problems, as well, and not be back as soon as we thought. Which means our two best players, the guys we thought would bring us a championship, have a very clouded future, and may never be able to play at 100%.

I'd say that's a pretty good reason for any Blazer fan to freak out.
I don't know why either of these things would shock any of us. Neither of these things are new news. The latest confirmation is new, but not surprising or entirely unexpected.

Anyone who has been watching the team should not be surprised by this news. Saddened? Definitely. Surprised? No.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

A little early to panic, but the death of dreams is certainly well within the bounds of possibility at this point.

It's a tough ride being a Blazers fan. We should all become Lakers fans.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

hate to say i told ya so...

but you can see this coming 2 years ago

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

Didn't Brandon some time in the past have a hamstring injury which seemed to hamper him long past the time the trainers thought there was a problem?

I'm basing a lot of my worries on his worries and he may be basing some of his worries on conversations with guys who don't have an identical problem. The fact that he is calling these guys may show that he is a "worrier". Anyway, I'm thinking maybe I have been assuming the worse and the actual outcome could be a lot better. I know somebody in here seemed to imply that Roy may be screwing with everyone but i think that just may be his personality, he worries about a lot of stuff and frets and whines a little but then he gets himself centered again and goes out and does his job. I hope so.

I'm going to become a Pacer fan again... :sigh:

Re: The Roy situation

jesus.... roy sounds in great spirits on dan patrick this am

i mean after all i have heard.... he sounds pretty upbeat

My fandom is not contingent upon the Blazers winning a championship. I'll leave that attitude to the Flakers of the world. I want the Blazers to win the championsip, of course, in fact multiple championships, (like nine, LOL) with every fiber of my soul. But I'll still be a Blazers fan and I won't jump off a bridge if they don't.

With Brandon out, there is the real chance I may enjoy the new look Blazers more than the old look Blazers. Aldridge, Batum, Rudy, Miller, Camby, Matthews, and Johnson should be a fun team to watch, if their coach will let them. Add in Oden and Joel at some point, and an attitude-adjusted Roy and I still love this team.

Yeah, that's the idea. Sports to me is an entertainment. You win some, you lose some. You got to enjoy the ride.

I hated the injuries last year, but I enjoyed the season - because that team played with tons of heart. That's all that matters. Now, if the Blazers would stop fucking up the fan situation with the Comcast trip from hell, it would make it better.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

The medical staff didn't draft anyone... they just do the best with what we have. Maybe they did evaluations on the draft picks and should be blamed too... not sure.

Players on this team that get hurt take a long, long time to recover, if they ever actually do.
When guys do return they are gimped.

At some point the team has to make a change just to make sure the training staff isn't the problem.

Re: Finally, it comes out. Brandon Roy is hurt.

I think this may be the biggest lie you have ever told.

Given him credit now... I think he's calculated every possible disaster scenario an infinate number of times already... so yeah... he really has seen them all coming.

i want the blazers to do well or i wouldnt be so fucking depressed right now and waste my time here.

Very sobering stuff. I'm hoping for good news from this second opinion, but it's getting harder and harder for me to imagine this team without one major injury or another.

I did love this forehead-slapper from the article, though:
Now, many of the plays call for Roy to post low on the block, or get the ball at the "elbow," the corner created where the free throw line meets the key.

Why don't they explain what the heck a "key" is? I am confused.

Read the first part of the post.

6-3 and first place in the division doesn't make you happy? Stop and smell the roses.
