Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

I've been on the Odom bandwagon for a while. He's the luxury version of Turkoglu...more productive and can defend well.

So we sign Odom.... then what?

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

The thing is, if Odom comes in, we HAVE to make another move. We can't have Odom, Batum, Outlaw, Webster, Pendegraph, and Cunningham all on the roster.

Honestly...... getting rid of Sergio and Outlaw would be a successful summer in my book.

I don't know that I would include Martell as part of the active roster, he's almost mythical like Raef Lafrentz at this point, as for Travis, I'd take it as a matter of course that he'd be moved, Batum would probably get his 20+ minutes, and Cunningham and Pendergraph could be kept around for some emergency depth in the front court (Dante as a 3/4, Jeff as a 4/5).

Blake/Bayless/(veteran?)
Roy/Rudy
Odom/Batum/Cunningham
LMA/Odom/(Cunningham/Pendergraph)
Oden/Joel/Pendergraph

That's not a bad 13 man roster if you ask me.

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

His personality is relevant as it pertains to how he gets along with his teammates. If they dislike each other than it just won't work. I would roll the dice after I asked Roy and LMA.

+1

There's been enough crap between Odom and Roy/LMA that they should have a say in whether the team makes an offer. They are the core, along with Greg. If it would suck to have LO for a teammate, they shouldn't have to deal with that.

Another thing to consider with Odom is whether he's OK with coming off the bench for anybody but the Lakers. I don't care if he gets to compete for the starting SF spot, but I'm not sure he would win out. He sure as hell isn't going to start ahead of LMA.

So what do you trade Outlaw for? I'd still looooove to see an Outlaw/Blake for Hinrich trade, but I'm not convinced that could ever happen. Trade Outlaw for some draft picks?

Like Nik, I don't view Webster as a factor. He's never been a real contributor, missed last year and is only now walking. You assume he's not going to be available and if he ends up healthy enough to play, you stick him at the end of the bench. I don't worry about his minutes, basically.

PG: Blake / Bayless
SG: Roy / Fernandez
SF: Odom / Batum / Cunningham
PF: Aldridge / Outlaw / Pendergraph
C: Oden / Przybilla

Based on current personnel, that's what I'd be looking at. Cunningham and Pendergraph would be there to pick up scraps here and there. Outlaw's best play has come at power forward, might as well give him all his minutes there if we have two good small forwards. I prefer Outlaw to Pendergraph/Cunningham.

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

You don't want Odom @ SF.

But wouldn't you rather swing Odom between the two forward spots to free up some time for Batum? We'd basically be replacing Outlaw, and his role last season, with Odom. And then you'd have Pendegraph to fill in if needed.

I just don't see any room for Outlaw on our roster if we were to sign Odom.

Why? Roy can't even get a 5 year deal, and LMA, as far as I know, hasn't even been offered a contract to this point of the summer.

Perhaps building around Hedo/Millsap/Odom/Pland D is the plan?

If a good deal for Outlaw is available, great. I wouldn't just dump Outlaw, I think he's a useful player. As much as I love Batum, he's not yet so good that he must get his 30-35 minutes per game. Another season in which he gets ~18 minutes is fine for a 20 year old. Of course, over the next year, Pritchard would have to be active in paring down the roster...optimizing all of this into a honed weapon, rather than a scatter-shot weapon. But for at least one season, there are minutes to go around, I think.

That, and it would be bad to try to trade Outlaw after signing Odom, simply because most GM's would expect it. We would have more leverage if we wait and see where we stand with Webster.

Keep beating that drum...

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

I think Odom is the guy we will offer next. I don't think he will actually play here, because either LA will match, or Miami will get him. I don't think he wants to play here because he prefers the sunny beaches of LA or Miami

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

I think we need to come up with a plan to design and build houses with artificial yet effective sunlight with fake beaches to entice free agents that enjoy such things. Blazer nation must come together to achieve great accomplishments.

That only leaves Rudy about 12 minutes per game.

Man, it's great to keep reading this bullshit 50 times a day. So, are you now on record as believing that Roy and LMA are gone, or are you just filling in for MIXUM?

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

Mixum is gonna have a field day when he comes back

Odom=What We Need

Most posters here would probably disagree, and I can see why to an extent. But I believe Odom would be a perfect fit for this team and would get us into the 2nd,round and beyond from this year on for the extent of his contract. He is 29 years old and Blazers are in the best position to offer him a deal according to what he wants in terms of salary. Yes Odom has a few character issues, and yes he has pretty much bumped heads with every Blazer play at some point but I think he'd be perfect.

First of all, bumping heads with other players shows this man has FIRE, and would push some of our more laid back, good guys to show some aggression and bully characteristcs, the toughness we need to make it in the tight Western Conference. Didnt Kp say at some point that given the right time, we could make a questionable move concerning character, since the rest of the team has such high character regardless, well this would be the perfect oppurtunity. This would also make either Webster, or Outlaw expendable and give us good things in return maybe thata vet pg that we need.

Second of all, its been too long since we had a player that had a history of actually inhaling fire, and since we are the Blazers after all, it makes sense. Plus his versatility and his athletic ability is ridiculous as he is currently in the midst of his prime, taking pressure of B-Roy. Plus last season he won a championship with our most heated rivals. If we thought we could screw over a division rival like Utah with the Millsap thing then we might as well aim at the top dogs and create a major blow to the team that makes most Blazer fans feel nauseous when seeing the combination of the yellow, purple and Kobe's arrogant smirk combined. It also comes down to the fact that Odom now knows, what it takes to get a ring and thats what we ultimatley need in a veteran, right?

He could play point point forward for us and show Batum the ropes.
And if his candy eating habits and Laker-esque personality becomes too much of a problem then we can deal him for capspace and get a FA in a better summer of prospects or get good value in return, since a lot of teams would drool over getting him, like the Heat for example and could gives thing we would like in return.

The depth chart would be awesome for next season, considering Outlaw is removed we'd have a team, looking like this,

PG-Blake, Bayless
SG-Roy, Fernendez, Webster
SF-Odom, Batum, Webster
PF-Aldridge,Cunningham,or P-Graph or whoever we'd get for Outlaw
C-Oden, Pryzbilla

Thats a 60 win team, right there.

And lastly you cant argue about how cool it would be to hear Mike Rice confuse Odom and Oden on a nightly basis, thats a laugh track waiting to happen.

And one more thing, I am pretty sure he is the only player to have gotten an assist using the ref, now that is basketball IQ at its finest.

Re: Odem=What We Need

I always have trouble taking posters seriously when they can't spell the guy they're talking about's name correctly.

I think he'd be a decent fit if he would decide to not be a dick, but given Miami's reported offer, your "we're in the best position to offer him $$$" thing doesn't seem to hold up. I'm sure he'd love to go back to play with D-Wade, but if he's pissed at the Lakers, maybe he'll sign with us to get more chances to play them.

Re: Odom Available...Make an Offer KP

Just S&T with the Knicks-

Work a deal whereby Travis and BayLESS get moved to NY and we bring in Lee and Nate R.

One negotiation. Done deal.

This is our best move for the moment.

Blake/Nate R./Mills

Roy / Rudy

Batuum / Webster / Cunningham

LMA / Lee / Pendergraph

Oden / Pryz

This gives us several options come the 2010 trade deadline too!

Why waste anymore time signing F/A players like Sessions or Odom, etc. when all that will happen is their teams will match (Millsap v.2)

Call NY and get this deal done.

I will say one thing is that Webster has not just begun to walk as i've seen him shooting and working with a trainer at club sport. He looks to be leaner to me, in a good way as I think he was a little to big before. Shot wasn't falling as always but the form still is picture perfect. I'm not saying he's going to contribute for sure but he definitely is doing more than " just starting to walk".
