Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

...kind of like Taureen Green

No. A lot better than that.

Last year, in Indiana, Jack had 6 games of 25 points or more - and they won 5 of them.

For a comparison, in his career, Webster had 2 games of 25 or more points (both of them, surprisingly, against Utah)

I was at the one where Martell scored 24 points in the 3rd quarter. It was absolutely amazing. I'm not sure what it was that lit a fire under him (Roy being out, hatred for Utah, ???), but whatever it was, I'd sure like to see it more often. It wasn't just the 24 pints in the quarter that impressed me, it was his attitude and confidence. He wanted the ball on every possesin, was running off screens like crazy to get open was attacking the paint (the attempted throw down on Jarron Collins was absolutely sick. I don't think any of the shots he made in that quarter even drew iron. It was just swish, swish, swish... Utah tried 3 different defenders on him and none of them could stop him. The only way they could slow him down was to foul him, and them he stepped up to the line and swished the FTs, too. He totally won that game for the Blazers. They trailed at half time, but went into the 4th quarter with a double digit lead after Martell's scoring outburst.

Yeah, that was an amazing quarter. Unfortunately, it was one of only 2 games in his career he scored 25 points or more. I have no problems with someone giving Jack a $20m/4 years contract - when Webster got basically the same. Heck - If Webster is the reference - Jack might be under-paid.

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

sour grapes? utah will likely match the milsap offersheet and the blazers will be relegated to years and years of mediocrity. lets go raptors, blazers suck!!!

Were we that transparent?

Re: OT: Jarrett Jack to the Raptors?

We have the bird rights to Delfino, so he could be brought in without dipping into our exceptions. There are also rumours that our offer sheet to Jack is backloaded, so that we'd have saved more of our MLE to spend on a SG or SF. I have a feeling we've earmarked our Bi-annual for Nesterovic.

I like Delf as our starter. I think he's versatile enough and a more complete/composed scorer than Jack. It's hard to blame him for not starting in the NBA yet. In Detroit he was stuck behind Billups/Hamilton and in the single season with Toronto, Anthony Parker was a veteran leader firmly entrenched at that spot. If he had stayed with us for more than that year, I think there would've been a strong chance that he usurps AP. The year he was with us, he looked like the soon-to-be successor to Parker.

This assumes Delfino comes back. Didn't he leave because he got more money, and preferred to play in Europe? What makes you think he'll come back to Toronto for less money now?

And, even if he does, he'd be a below average starting SG. I like him much better off the bench. He has a career PER of 12.4 and a career FG% of 0.400. He is, however a good defender - and he's the scary part, if you bring Delfino back s your starting SG, he will be your second best rebounder in your starting unit. Although he's an excellent rebounder for a wing, that says more about your starting front line than it does about Carlos Delfino.

Yeah right, what do these two sequences of numbers mean to you:

21, 32, 41, 54

47, 41, 33

Sure looks like two teams headed in opposite directions to me. I know you're just kidding, but if I had to peg one of these two teams as destined for years of mediocrity, it would be the second, not the first.

i would take portland's young talent over BC's frantic approach. however, pritichard has made some questionable moves of late- signing milsap when they are so deep up front with aldridge, oden and prysbilla (sp.) and getting frugal with your franchise player in contract negotiations is tarnishing the blazer brand. and remember- players talk and perception (optics) is huge.

I don't think we're "so deep" upfront. We have no backup PF. And so far Oden and Joel haven't exactly been stellar as 5's.

As for the 'getting frugal', I bet this is from the top of the organization, not KP.

One of the primary reasons he left for your Europe last year is because he wanted to finish contract negotiations quickly so that he could join his national team. The prospect of a long drawn-out negotiation process with a Raptors team just below the luxury tax led him to quickly accept the best offer in Europe (and there were quite a few). So last year's departure didn't mean that he prefers Europe or is focused solely on the money. It just showed that he strongly values his national team commitment. Additionally, those rich offers from Russian teams turned out to be fools gold, to a certain extent. There many reports of late/delayed paycheques from Khimki and former-NBA players frustrated with the situation.

Delf should be fine in the starting lineup. He'll be needed primarily as a defender and rebounder, and he does that pretty well. He's low-key, so he should be workmanlike in a starting lineup with a lot of bigger-name scorers. And his shooting range and ability to play minutes at the 1 are a bonus.

OT-Jack signs offer sheet with Toronto?

I heard this on the radio . . . no details or links.

Jack is an UFA with Indy . . . Indy is on the clock

Re: OT-Jack signs offer sheet with Toronto?

You're very late to the party.

He signed it awhile ago and he's an RFA.

Re: OT-Jack signs offer sheet with Toronto?

According to Rick Bucher, this move might be part of Toronto's all-out press to get Bosh to stay. Bosh and Jack were roomies at Georgia Tech and remain tight.

Re: OT-Jack signs offer sheet with Toronto?

or maybe it's less sinister than that and they're not sure DeRozan's going to be able to handle the starting 2.

DeRozan is not a starting guard yet. He's going to take time.

I think the Raptors will be happy to start a guy like Delfino in the meantime, supposing they bring him back.

^^ Which sounds doubtful. According to a RealGM poster.

The Indianapolis Star is reporting that if the Pacers don't match the Raptors' four-year, $20 million offer sheet for point guard Jarrett Jack(notes), they could turn their attention to Sixers' free agent Andre Miller. The Sixers apparently offered Miller a one-year deal for just under $6 million

So, Ford would be available?
