And I agree with you on pretty much all of it.

However, how much have we talked about Motley, Swanigan, Wilson, etc.? I can't help but feel like if Motley was a Duck and Bell was a Baylor Bear this thread would be all about Johnathan Motley. I'm focusing on 2nd rounders too, and I think there's so many solid ones that we should trade 26 down for two 2nd round picks, and see which prospects we're targeting fall to us, instead of reaching for guys at 26.

Some teams will reach, causing good players to fall. Get two 2nds and we can capitalize on some of the reaching other teams will do. Instead of picking Dozier at 26, we could trade 26 to PHI for 37 and 39. Dozier has a decent chance of falling to 37 and we get a player at 39 who'd go in the first round many other years.
I like Motley a lot. I saw him play a ton since I follow Iowa State. He killed us every game we played Baylor for the last two seasons. High energy guy and took advantage of anyone who didn't play physical against him. Hits the offensive glass and is really long. I don't know if he can out motor/hustle guys in the NBA, but I would not hate to see him on the Blazers.

Stop the presses!! DE just updated their mock and dropped Jarrett Allen to 17 (with Anigbogu inexplicably above him at 15). Him being available to us is something I've never considered a possibility. That would be amazing.

I would love Allen, but I just don't see him dropping to #15. I wonder why the drop all of a sudden in the mock draft.

This is exactly why I'm not upset about making the playoffs and falling from 13th(or whatever) to 15th. There are teams picking in front of us that have a history of reaching and failing, in the draft. SAC is a prime example and they have TWO picks ahead of us this year (likely something like 8th and 10th). That, combined with teams having different needs, leads me to believe there is a VERY good chance that the player Neil has targeted at 15 will fall to us, such that had we been picking at 12, 13 or wherever, it would not have made one iota of difference.

I know you think there is too much focus on Bell, but this thread is 20 pages long and has a lot of variety of opinions. There are posters here who think we absolutely fucked ourselves over by not tanking and dropping out of the lottery. There are also posters who think we should trade one of our first round picks to move down into the second round.

And here's the best part, those two opinions are equally valid and not even mutually exclusive. It all depends on who you want and where you think they will be available.

Personally, even though I don't agree with many of the opinions, I find this thread one of the most informative and enjoyable that we've had in a while. I often have strong opinions, but I also like to read the opinions of others who feel strongly and back up those opinions with information.

I was actually on the Swanigan bandwagon and wanted him at 26 until the combine. His poor defensive showing at the combine, combined with Bell's strong overall performance made me flip flop. I now want Bell over Swanigan, because I think he brings more of what we need.

I still reserve the right to change my mind an infinite number of times between now and draft day.

How did he do at the combine? The measurements and 5-on-5 performances are shaking things up quite a bit in the DE mock draft. It's caused Bell to rise from 42 to 33 and Swanigan to plummet from 26 to 40.

I agree--I would be surprised if he dropped. That's why I thought it was such a big deal that DE now has him in our range.

Looks like he did pretty well to me.

And you have to love this quote:
On what he expects in the NBA: “My role coming in the first two, three years understand that I’m not going to have the best offensive game. I’m not going to be as polished as all the other big men scoring so I’m going to have to bring a level of intensity on the defensive end, blocked shots, altered shots and just run the court.

I like Swanigan's game a lot and he could be a beast, but you are right about his defense. If you want a sample of what an athletic guy can do to him, go watch their second round NCAA tourny game against Iowa State. Purdue held on to win, but blew a huge lead, impart due to Deonte Burton flat out destroying Swanigan. See the video below. I started it at the 1 minute mark where Burton begins to eat Swanigans lunch.

It would be a little comical if Utah picks Jeane after having Gobert like Draft Express is currently predicting.

I think we should move down, or buy a second round pick to draft him, if he is still around in the early second round. Depending on who is there at 26, I wouldn't mind him there.

What? Swanigan didn't participate in those parts of the combine. How did he have a poor defensive showing.... when he didn't show ANYTHING at all?

Heard the same thing about Cauley-Stein, who hasn't been that good.

And he's 3 inches taller with longer arms.
From who? Where did someone say he has the best motor in the draft? Where did someone mention hustle and lock down attitude, and a mean streak?

There is a difference between good defender, and tenacious defender who can guard every player

I was specifically talking about the "can guard 5 positions comment".

I am not that high on him, not surprised he's dropping, IMO he's 20ish player plus or minus 2-3 spots, but this draft is so "evenish" after 10/11 to 25 or higher there could be a lot of movement

Anybody watching the lottery right now? I would be shocked if LA doesn't get the #1 pick.

My hope is L@kers get the second pick and take Ball. I think he is a poor fit for that team, but they will have to take him for any number of reasons and I think his bust potential is yuge.
Congrats.
