Re: What happens with Gomes?

Who is making these decisions right now?

Why do I feel like there's a 50/50 chance Batum isn't here next year?

I hope he's playing for Monte Williams this season :devilwink:

If It's Tuesday, This Must Be....

...the day a decision is to made on Gomes.

Apparently, the Blazers have inquired with all 29 teams regarding trading him.

Re: If It's Tuesday, This Must Be....

Apparently, there is already a thread about the Gomes situation.

Re: If It's Tuesday, This Must Be....

Apparently BB is going to be persnickety until HCP starts going on road trips again.

Re: What happens with Gomes?

Raps interested in Gomes.
Ryan Gomes.

Like him?

Not sure how many of you have been following what’s going on with him but the serviceable backup (who I quite like as a player, by the by) was traded from Minnesota to Portland and will either be traded or waived by 3 p.m. Tuesday to save the Blazers some money because his contract is not fully guaranteed if he’s released by that time.

I will tell you this: I know from league sources that the Raptors have made a call to see if there’s a trade fit and while it’s doubtful that gets done (it’s in Portland’s best interest, really, to waive him) I know Toronto will see if it can get something done with him in free agency.

Re: What happens with Gomes?

Seems like the best move would be to send Gomes to a team with cap space to create a larger trade exception than the small one we got with Martell.

The Raptors have to have one of the worst rosters in the NBA right now. They better pray for a sign-and-trade with Bosh to get some talent back.

Re: What happens with Gomes?

Chad Ford said the Nets and the Bulls are CLOSE to signing 2 Max FAs....they just need a little help....

Re: What happens with Gomes?

"Miami has $43.7 million to sign free agents. Need $49.5 million to sign Wade, Bosh and & Bron to max. Losing Beasley ($4.9) gets them close"

Miami turned down Beasley for Gomes when he was in Minny. What changes now?

Greater desperation as they get closer to their "championship building off-season?" A better deal to dump Beasley not emerging?

Something like that. There are time effects that can change things.

Re: What happens with Gomes?

I'd trade him to Toronto for Reggie Evans. Evans has a 5 million dollar expiring contract. Combined with Joel and Andre, that's 19 million in expirings. Rather do that than just waive him. Although I'd still be pushing hard for Beasley. Or, try to get Humphries and Terrence Williams from NJ.

BEasy or TWill (BRoy used to mentor him in Seattle) would be sick. Even your Evans idea isn't bad at all. I hope we pursue all these options before giving up.

If you couldn't get Beasley, would you really rather have an expiring contract or an MLE player?

Yeah, I'd obviously pursue getting someone worthwhile back, first. But if nothing else, I'd take the 5 million dollar expiring of Evans over just getting rid of Gomes. Evans would be eligible to be packaged in a trade by about September 1st. So still have plenty of time before training camp, can offer up Evans, Joel and Andre, and take back over 23 million in salary.

Has Paul Allen come out and said I will not allow use of the MLE if we keep Gomes or trade him for a player of similar contract?

Why "or?" We can have both.

Edit: sorry for the repost.

It'd be around 11 million for the MLE player. PA is rich, but some things are ridiculous even for him.

Plus, we have enough players vying for minutes as it is, you're going to be paying 11 million for someone who isn't going to be playing much. (Or who will push someone else out of the rotation)

How would it be $11 million? As I recall, Portland is just over the cap, so they're not in luxury tax territory.

If they dont renounce Gomes, they are over LT.... thats what i read somewhere

Portland is just over the tax with everyone signed. Once you add the rookies, Gomes's $4.2 Million salary, and a $5.8 Million MLE player, you're going over the tax.

LT in 09 was 69. Currently the Blazer Roster on July 8th is 68, so with an MLE, everything is double
