Merged: Who would you give up for Paul George?

It wouldn't surprise me if George ends up on the Cavs with LeBron.

read a mock draft this morning on a yahoo link that projects Portland to trade all 3 picks to Orlando for Vucevic and the #6 pick which they say we'd use to get the 7ft 3pt shooter from Finland.....the author compares him to a young Dirk.

Because we want to have the worst defense in the history of the NBA?

I didn't write it.....I want us to draft Bell for defense myself. I think Vucevic and Nurk would pair up really well though. I like Vucevic a lot. The Finnish 7fter from Arizona I know nothing about but the author says he's got incredible range and handles...passes really well. People didn't think Durant would be a good defender....skinny guy himself..he has improved...to me if we don't want to be the worst defense we need a defensive coordinator first and foremost

In today's game you need 3pt shooting. We need a SF who is a real threat from deep and we need a PF who can pick and pop and rebound.

Seriously!?! That was what happened in my dream. Holy crap.

Well, actually it was CJ that we traded...... but still...... holy crap!

This one? In that mock Isaac goes 7th, I'd totally take him over the guy it has us taking.
yeah, that was the article....the guy who wrote it is convinced Markkanen is going to be a superstar...but the Blazers could very well draft another guy with the #6 pick..I'm a real fan of Vucevic and think he'd compliment Nurk at the 4. You want more defense you bring Vonleh or Aminu off the bench...you want more rebounds and pts....you put Vucevic in.

Vucevic is not a 4, never ever. He is brutally slow laterally, could never guard any power forwards.

And if we trade all our picks for markkanen while passing on Isaac, I'll burn down the moda center.

Disagree about Vucevic....as I said...the author likes the Finnish guy...whoever the Blazers have on their board could be anyone.

He'd look a lot better playing with Nurk next to him.

That's not true. You can't just put two big men next to each other and hope it works out. The Pistons tried that with Greg Monroe and Andre Drummond. It failed badly. If it's two guys that are natural 5's, it's probably doomed to fail. That's why Denver traded Nurk in the first place.

We need an athletic four who can shoot and defend multiple positions. We need someone like Serge Ibaka.

That's not true
it hasn't happened so of course it's not true...Vucevic is not a traditional big like Nurk.....I mentioned earlier...it's all about getting an elite defensive coordinator on the bench.....Lamarcus was no great defender .....Vucevic is a 20/10 guy night in and night out.....almost had one game with 30/30....I think you vastly underestimate what he brings to the table.....he's been on crappy teams though

His mock trade was Orlando sends No. 6 pick to Portland for all of Portland's first-round picks: the 15th, 20th and 26th picks of the draft.

Not that it matters, since he's just making up trades for fun for a mock, but it didn't include Vucevic.

This isn't 1998. So many power forwards today live on the perimeter. Vucevic can barely guard centers, but now you want him to guard even more athletic players? Come on.

And... you know..... as much as I love Nurk, I don't think Nurk/Vucevic are quite the same caliber as Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

And Vucevic is no different than Jokic defensively, so I don't think we should take Nurk down that road again.

you're right but Pop had something to do with how well that worked.....but twin towers and big backcourts are not an anomaly...which was my point. Could say Lamarcus and Rolo...or Randolph and Gasol...lots of big pairings turned out ok......I get the feeling everyone now wants a Draymond Green PF...

What would benefit this team more?

Love?
PG?

I tend to think PG, because right now its the guards who are smoking us and PG can slip and help cover the perimeter with his D.

The trade is #15 and #20, Crabbe & Leonard and a 2018 2nd for a committed to re-signing PG.
We then go for Bell at #26, or we use him in a trade package to dump a bit more salary and free up for signing a vet that would make immediate impact.. unlike most of the options we could draft at #26.

What if we sent Harkless, Davis, Quaterman and #26 to Phoenix for Tyson Chandler and Bender?

We would walk into next season, or by trade deadline ( not sure what players might have contracts preventing trade prior to the season starting or anything) looking like this...

Dame/ Napier
CJ/Turner/Connaughton
PG/Aminu/Layman
Vonleh/Bender
Nurkic/Chandler

That second unit should be able to lock down on most other second units and that first unit should be able to compete with most other first units.
If Vonleh and Nurk can stay healthy I think they are going to benefit from each others game more than any of us expect and really take it to another level.

We would need to find another big man or two just to ease the minutes, but I think this team could lure in that David West type of player.

I think it depends how the coach is willing to play and scheme to the team's talent.
