Meyers Leonard, potential superstar

I believe Meyers was offered one and turned it down.
It was delayed, they even asked to put it off a week if I remember correctly and I doubt Neil or Paul Allen met with him to convince him...I like the optimism but superstar is a stretch at this point in his young career...not to say he couldn't become that further on in his career but at this point...no

Meyers Leonard will never become a SUBJECTIVE superstar.

Overrated from some fans? Yes. From everyone else? It will NEVER happen.

Once Meyers found his groove in the Memphis series, he was dominating on the boards against a great rebounding front line. He's got it in him, but what's it gonna take for him to get his groove back?

Let him play center.......he is NOT a PF

I realize he's been hurt, but I'm glad he didn't sign that supposedly big deal that he was offered.

Ever hear the expression, "Even the sun shines on a dog's ass once in awhile?" It's a good turn of phrase; it's useful far more often than it has any right to be.

Meyers 'Aerogel' Leonard.

Aerogel is the softest material known to man. It's literally "softer than air".

Isn't it, "even the sun shines on a dog's ass some days?"

I don't know, it sure looked like ML turned a corner against Memphis. He's got all the tools. Not many guys are as muscular as him at that height and have hops. He's just so mechanical in his movements at times, it seems like he's over-thinking things. When he gets out of his own head and just acts instinctively, I feel like he can bang with anyone.

He's muscular looking but I don't think he's very strong for his size. He seems to get pushed around pretty easily. He needs to bulk up. I also think people overrated his jumping ability.. He sure as hell doesn't show it much if he does have it. He certainly isn't any good at jumping off two feet, which is much more important than jumping off one for big men.

He needs to stop ignoring leg day.

If he builds a better base/lower body, he won't be pushed around as easily. Also helps if he lowers his center of gravity by bending his knees, I think.

I agree, he gets pushed around easily and doesn't get up often, but again, that's spatial awareness and conscious motor skills. When he gets into an instinctive mode, he's shown flashes of very good strength and athleticism. It's there, he just hasn't managed to tap into it regularly.

Now, if anyone can explain how he's the only player to get clobbered in the jaw every game...

He can do some pretty spectacular dunks, but it doesn't look like he really has much vertical.

That can be said for just about every player in the league, else they never would have been drafted. Hell I'm sure there's still somebody, somewhere mumbling to themselves about Andrea Bargnani "putting it all together someday."

If Meyers is lucky, someday he'll be the next Ryan Anderson or possibly even Mehmet Okur, but I don't think I'd bet on it, because ultimately if he's still just a tease 4 years in then odds are he's pretty close to the guy he's going to be as a pro.

He's a tease, shows you enough just often enough to make you think he's got it, and that's only when his offense is good enough to make to forget the rest of his pathetic D and rebs

So it would have been OK if the Blazers couldn't reach a deal to keep Lillard happy on this team?

I have no idea what you are talking about, How you came to that conclusion and who led you there.
First, offering a contract and reaching an agreement are two completely different things...
Second, are you really trying to compare the value of Leonard, vs Dame on this team? Seriously?????I love Meyers (I have to. I bought his jersey), but im not delusional....are you?

Do you know how to do a proper argument? I mean....

Right???

There was a freaky picture posted this summer I think of him dunking at the practice facility, and it looked like he was going to clear the hoop. He's got the hops, but just like his strength, he lacks the fluidity and body control to regularly utilize them at game speeds.

Uh, you do realize you're mixing physical attributes with basketball skills? I'm pretty sure no one, anywhere, at least while sober, said that Bargnani would become an enforcer. And no, the same cannot be said for every player in the league that they have the tools to be a very good physical player, which is what your response was directed at. You really derailed your point there.

Aerogel continued to pass up open shots tonight.

Soft and invisible.

No, not really. Putting it all together is what separates the "potential" guys from the "pros."

Yes, but that's not what I was talking about, and it's not what you were responding to.

As for Leonard becoming a superstar...every superstar in history was a superstar by this stage. He still has big holes in his game, caused by the holes in his head.

His ceiling is Okur but Leonard is still an inferior player to current Bargnani.

At the same age: Bargnani >>> Leonard.

Who started this thread and do they REALLY believe he will become a superstar? Would change my whole definition of the word if they did! If HE'S a superstar what the hell is LA?

I sent this off to Myers. He says he'll see you in the loading dock and he's gonna go all Rasheed on your ass. If I was you I'd call in sick for a couple of weeks.

That assumes Leonard could FIND the loading dock without a map, 3 Sherpas, and a cadaver dog. He gets lost running FT line to FT line!
