Meyers Leonard - The! Thread (1 Viewer)

My concern is he's a tad skinny for 7'1", I think they said 250 lb? Hopefully he can put on muscle.

But I watched NBA TV draft wrap up and they were extremely positive about both Blazers picks. They also pointed out Leonard never played with a good guard, unlike Zeller.

Also, Lillard likes him. And potentially important, he's apparently good buds with Deron Williams.

I don't mind the Leonard pick... I think that the guy's got a lot of upside. I don't have a lot of faith he'll meet it, but at least there's a chance.

We also don't need to rely on him any time soon, so hopefully he'll have time to grow into a significant role.

Who is our starting center though?

Wasn't it said around the first microfracture that the ideal playing weight for Oden was 7'1, 255 or so? I have no idea how strong this guy is or how he uses his 250, but I'm a bit hesistant to tell a 7-footer to start packing on muscle. He's already bigger than McGee, Blatche, Gasol, Duncan, KG, etc...

I like our stiff
That's just it. Our stiff isn't stiff. He's actually very athletic. And tall. :)

Before the draft, I expected the Blazers to take Lillard at #6 (unless Barnes fell to us, LOL) and the best available center prospect at #11. They did that (I think). I admit I was surprised at first they didn't take Lamb, but I think they just did not want him.

Now, if Ross, Waiters or Rivers had been available at #11, the Blazers may well have taken one of them instead of Leonard. But they weren't. So they didn't. They passed on Lamb (good IMO) and a bunch of other players with the same odds of success as Leonard, and took the best available center prospect on the board. That's Leonard.

Now the Blazers need to make sure Joel is here next year as player or coach or player coach to teach Leonard the Joel Way of the Warrior.

It's a nice real moment in what is pretty much a surreal thing (the hype and marketing of sports). Thanks for posting.

clearly this guy is soft based off that video. Anyone that loses their father at age 6, and has their brother leave for afghanistan and their mother be wheelchair bound despite being an athlete at a younger age, MUST be a soft loser. RIGHT!? Some of the people on this board (not you nik) are terrible.

I don't think 250 is all that skinny for him. Sure he can probably stand to put on about 20 pounds, but he probably still has natural physical maturing to do given the fact that he's only 20

Oh I'm pretty terrible, no doubt about that.

They feel that he can get to around 265 lbs. by the time fall camp starts. He came in at 256 lbs. during his workout in Portland.

Basing my concern on the fact that forwards, ususally 6'7 or 6'8, often weigh in at 225 or 230.

I don't think he should overdo it but I would like to see him a tad heavier so he won't get pushed around by bigger NBA centers.

Dude, at 2:50 he takes the ball by the three point line, dribbles left around three defenders and takes it to the rim like a PG. Made me laugh for some reason. Wish LaMarcus could do that.

Supposedly, LaMarcus is focusing on putting the ball on the floor this off season. That's one thing I like about LaMarcus, every single off season he has worked on and improved at least one aspect of his game.

I suggest we nickname him Fred, both to spare Mike Rice the inevitable tongue twisting over Lillard/Leonard, and for some NW promotional opportunities.

As long as he doesn't add the ubiquitous and dreaded, "ten pounds of pure muscle" that all guys seem to add just before camp opens then yes, I agree he could probably stand to put on a little bit of bulk.

I'm glad we got Leonard instead of that Hillbilly Zeller. ;)

Leonard has work to do. Two reasons he will do the work: (1) To make his momma proud and give her more than she ever dreamed she'd have; and (2) If he doesn't, his brother will flat kick his ass. :)

A couple of days ago, CSNNW.com got word that Leonard destroyed North Carolina's Tyler Zeller when the two worked out for the Trail Blazers.

Why do I seem to recall hearing the exact opposite in the lead-up to the draft (not necessarily the Portland group workout). I just had this impression that Zeller was showing how much more polish and experience he has over Meyers.

I remember reading that Leonard was surprising people with his shooting at the Chicago combine. People were reporting that he was lights out.

He's athletic, has soft touch, a legit 7-1, can block shots, runs the floor well for his size, has surprising passing ability....

Just because he's white people feel that he was a horrible pick and is unathletic. Its why I'm glad some of you nincompoop's acting as experts aren't making the decisions. A legit 7-footer with potential over a wishy-washy 2 guard like Lamb any day.
