I think he was traded for nothing cause he had a no trade clause. At that point Was is just lucky to dump the contract. Beal isn’t a 50 mil player.
The contract had more to do with his trade value than the no-trade clause

? other teams could not bid. of course the no-trade clause brought down his value.
How many teams would line up to trade a Simons level player, Dame type money, with a Porzingous type of injury history (games missed/played)? My guess is not many...

This is all a counter-factual argument on both sides. We can just agree to disagree.

That still does not explain why the Wiz did not take Miami's package. Beal said he would have good going there. At least they would have gotten some first-round picks.

What exactly was offered by MIA? I don't think we know for sure. Even writers and insiders didn't know what was the full PHX trade after news of it broke. Some of that is because WAS yet might expand it to a 3-team deal.

Maybe Beal didn't want to go there?

He said he would. Even if Phoenix was being "more aggressive" the Wiz could have held out for the Miami package that I am sure would have at least included one first-round pick, and quite frankly better trade assets if that is what they were after. No, I don't know what was offered but what they got could not have been worse.

Beal had a no trade clause. He chose Phoenix

More than likely, the reported offer was substantially less than the real offer the Heat were making.

It was reported that Beal listened to “pitches” from both teams and would only waive his NTC for the Suns, not the Heat.

Oddly enough, I just saw and started reading this:

Specifically mentions the Wiz preferred the Heat package.

Side note: At this point I may consider trading Dame with any other team than Miami if this is true and Dame requests a trade. Fuck em’.

if dame ever demands a trade, i would send him to the team that gives me the most back.

who the hell cares where he *wants* to go if he decides to go back on his word, and it turns out that all his talk about loyalty was bullshit?
It was reported that we would “work with him” to trade him to a preferred destination and we let CJ pick where he wanted to go, but we wouldn’t let Dame?

Seems doubtful we would just auction him off to the highest bidder

Well if I was the GM I would have said "Sorry, the package is too small. We are not doing it."
Call his fucking bluff! Was there a reason it had to get done this week?

If that's true, then Joe needs to go.
If you’re talking about the CJ thing, he explicitly said it on a podcast or something, or maybe it was Cronin or both. But I do remember it was straight from the horses mouth.

The Dame stuff I guess we won’t know unless Dame ever requests out and we will find out pretty fast if it’s truly “open season”

I don’t think so, they probably just wanted to be done with it.

But, to be fair, if you call his bluff then all he has to do is say, “ok, fine, you’re stuck with me then” and they have 50mm reasons per year not to want to do that

Maybe, but if you were Beal would you stay for another year? I get what you are saying, they just wanted his contract
off the books. But I still would have said no to Phoenix. Beal would come up with another team

I'm talking prospectively about any potential dame trade. CJ had meh value so it's somewhat forgivable. A Dame trade has to set up a potential runway for eventual contention 3-4 yrs down the line. (Aka tyler herro and duncan robinson ain't it)

What are "things the Mrs. HCP says to her husband" for 1000, Alex.

BAM!

We got good value in return for CJ. I expect to get good value out of Dame as well.

IMO they should've never given him permission to speak to Phoenix given they knew they had NO assets, lol.

If Dame asked for a trade, Portland would have to work a three team trade because Miami only has draft picks Portland would want. This is where you wrap Phoenix or Houston in because they want vets.

Perhaps we let CJ pick his destination, but the destination he picked accommodated a trade for a player we could use and generates a TPE that just happened to be just barely large enough to fit Grant's next-year's salary. We may have accommodated CJ's wishes, but not at the expense of a good return.

Maybe the principle of a Dame trade if that is who he is being cryptic about. IIRC, it can be completed until sometime in July?

Yeah I think he can't be traded until 7/10.

Yeah, I agree. I don't think N.O. would have been CJs top choice to be traded to....but maybe an acceptable one.
I think Joe liked Hart a lot (I do too) and wanted a pick in return. The emergence of Sharpe, probably made it easier to move him.

IF Dame is traded, he should go to a team where he “has a shot” at contending. That does pre-suppose not only that the team has a Bridges (and Claxton who becomes a Blazer), but also would get Nurkic as a replacement center. They have the contracts for both AND the draft picks of teams whose best players MAY be gone or washed in 3-4 years.
Sign and trade Jerami Grant as well — more picks!

Under no circumstances should a Dame-trade receive okay veterans with longer than a 2-year contract. Trading Dame means tanking for 1-2 years … and just being bad. Any useful, okay players are tradeworthy elsewhere.

With Miami, any useful players who don’t fit the timeline SHOULD be shopped off for youth, fit, and picks.
Unprotected picks in 27 and 29. Option on Unprotected pick swaps in 28 and 30.
Tyler Herro at 23 is a possible keeper. Nikola Jovic is 20. The rest is filler — Lowry.

Dame + Nurkic is $62.5 million / Lowry (final year) + Herro + Jovic = $59 million
Herro is 4 years / $120 million starting at $27 million in 23-24 / he will be tradable

This is not what I want to happen. BUT it’s also not Dame demanding anything nor going back on his words. Help the other team WIN … and take a truckload of unprotected picks. Trade Nurkic and a sign and traded Grant (if possible).
