so...I guess I was wrong when I said we needed to extend Oden or face losing him to a max contract....

Mike Rice has had 5 surgeries, so it's ok! Too bad you're 70 years old Mike Rice.

I think we HAVE to make GO a qualifying offer. You simply have to take a chance on him.
God, I hope you're right...I just don't want to give up on him, but I know that the team probably will. And I can't blame them... :sigh:

This is just ridiculous. Beyond ridiculous, actually. The best thing for Oden is to retire. I don't want to ever again anticipate a comeback from him. It's better to have that possibility taken completely off the table. How in the hell do we think about Oden as a member of this team? It's impossible.

Please retire Greg, and have a good life.

Another post, another dud.

This is like that story where you find the genie in the lamp and you get your wish but then it turns out all fucked up.

If Greg Oden doesn't understand how much this organization and community have given him, he is an idiot.
Do we have any reason to believe that he doesn't understand? I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, no good reason not to.

Hey guys. I went and played basketball today for the first time in months and coincidentally wore my Oden jersey. Got a text from a friend with the bad news after I finished. Lots of thoughts went flying through my head but look, this is horrible for Greg. I feel very bad for him but if he continues to fight through all of these disappointments, he still has a chance to make a good amount of money. I hope we resign him because I simply won't be able to stomach him playing well for another team. I've waited this long. I'll continue to wait. The lockout will help. No pressure to return right away but once he does return, he'll have to re-learn the game of basketball so he's not gonna be an All Star anytime soon if ever, but I'll gladly take 5/6/2 from him as a backup center. Anything else would be a major bonus.

As for our current team, we'll be fine. The Outlaw/Blake for Camby trade has proven to be huge for this team. Kudos to KP. And I believe we have a great coach who will continue to stress defense and pull this team together to win games. There's still a lot of talent on the roster, even without Brandon. Aldridge is sooooo underappreciated and taken for granted on this board. Miller and Camby are very good veteran players who will hold this team together on the court. The sky is still the limit for Nicolas. Armon Johnson could be the next Rondo. Wesley Matthews is a very talented second year player. Cunningham is a very solid bench contributor. If Joel is back to his old self, we have one of the best center rotations in the league. I'm not gonna focus on we can't do this, we can't do that. We're a good team. Let's beat the Nuggets tomorrow.

I'm surprised no one asked why Steadman was doing the surgery instead of Roberts and whose decision that was.

I'm sure it was at the insistence of Greg's agent or somesuch; he did Kenyon Martin's MF surgery.

The worst part is I feel like we could be doing this all over again with Brandon Roy soon. His situation could still be arguably worse than Oden's.

Like I said in an earlier post, he's my knee doc. I drive 100 miles to see him. I'm aware of his work. I would like confirmation as to why it was decided that someone new would do his surgery.

P.S. He also did K*be's knee; let's hope GO doesn't stay at the Cordillera.

If you told me he would regain his explosiveness after recovering from surgery, I'd say we might as well. Maybe we can be like the Spurs. Tank one year and land a Tim Duncan to pair with Roy.

well, here's hoping for a lockout next season. we need it.

Yeah, that was Oden.

Well they said Roy doesn't need surgery, right? So he is what he is. He'll adjust his game. He'll pace his way through the season and give us the best he can. That is what he'll do for the rest of his career. He'll never be what he was but that happens. He can still contribute on a championship team.

Remember that famous video of the NBA draft the year we got Oden? It was taken in a packed restaurant in Portland, and when the Blazers got the #1 pick the place erupted. It actually gave me goosebumps. I must have watched that video 20 or 30 times.

And to think it all came to this. Unbelievable.

Problem is his knees will get worse with time. The way his knees feel right now won't be the same way they feel even next year. His knees are basically on life support at this point.

I doubt that information ever gets made public knowledge ... and I'm OK with that personally.

Oh hilarious, I just told my wife what happened to Oden and she said someone needs to go into practice and say "are you abusing your players because they are all injured" ahhh love it.

Wow, medical staff is getting their collective cock sucked by Larry Miller. Why. Why, Miller.

They all need to go.

"One of the most respected training staffs in medical sports."

LOL, Larry Miller.

They're right up there with the Cincinnati "Mysterious-Injury" Bengals and the Cleveland "Can-I-get-a-Staff-Infection" Browns training staffs.

Last I checked, the medical/training staff didnt build Greg like a Lego robot. He's born with/developed bad knees. Nothing they can do about it. There have been far more healthy players that have worked with the training staff then there have been injured players. Like Nate just said, the G.State Warriors had more injuries than we did last season.

That's like saying, "I'm not the worst President ever. I'm the second worst."
