t's funny, I just saw someone post something on Twitter that said "Shout out to Damian Lillard," and then in the next three sentences, "I'm just going to say it: Ever since" — they were talking about Steve Smith, Scottie Pippen, myself, that team — "Ever since those guys left, the city hasn't been the same. Those guys were visible in the community." That's what I'm saying. There was so much other stuff — there's so much more to it than basketball. At some point, the basketball is going to stop bouncing. Portland has been notorious for being a place that people come back to. Some people come back to be in it, some people come back to live, and that's just not happening anymore. For better or worse, you ran guys off. It's not that kind of place any more. That, to me, is what I want Portland to get back to.

Good work, Damon. Well said. *facepalm*

The first comment on that page says it all... about everything Damon didn't mention....

I'm like, man, why are you all on us like that when guys are human and guys make mistakes? Now, years later, marijuana is legalized in Portland. Oregon is one of those type of places.

So, he's saying it's OK that he's high during the interview? :)

I don't even understand what the fuck he's trying to say...

Hmmm. Portland is famous for its large sex industry and now weed is legal here too. No other city is so poised to be popular with NBA free agents.

I just finished reading the whole article and I sorta kinda get what he's trying to say, but what he doesn't get is its not so much that you fucked up, but how you fucked up. The whole yellow Hummer episode, the dope in tin foil at the airport metal detector, the Hoops Family stuff, etc, etc, etc. All were exercises in jaw dropping stupidity, played out in public and making the city and fans they represent look like chumps for supporting it. In my lifetime, Portland has always pretty much been a live and let live kind of place. But don't put it out in such manner so as to make it impossible for even the most casual fan...and citizen....to turn away. Do your fucking up in private and we won't take it so hard....

I never liked the term jailblazers and was a huge fan of that team. Like them or not, they were contenders
That's what I have been saying for years now yet it seems like everyone just wants a well balanced team over talent.

In my opinion Damon nailed it. The fact he was born and raised in Portland speaks volumes of non-bias as well. He has a point that we have never till this day seen success like his teams gave us. Nowadays this city would rather go 15-67 with good guys than win a ring with couple knuckleheads. I hope like he does Lillard never feels under appreciated now that its going to be tougher to win with the squad we have

Every time I think about the Tinfoil Smuggler I laugh out loud . . . literally . . .

The most ironic part is that he learned to be that stupid right here in Potland . . .

So what he forgot it was in his bag whats the big deal

not i, i always say it takes 1 knucklehead to win a ship. id take cousins in a second.

Cousins has the highest knucklehead quotient of any player I've been willing to consider trading for in recent memory. I'd wait until later in the season to make the deal, and even then only if (by a pretty damned significant stretch of the imagination) we were in the playoff hunt. I think Dame has the cache to keep Boogie on the (relatively) straight and narrow...

Devil's advocate - I kind of get it. Sometimes being in the small "Fish Bowl" gets old. Anytime anyone sneezes wrong it can be (and often is) read waaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much into. (Media and over zealous Soccer Mom Fanbase ™ are main issues imo)

Hard to take serious anything from the guy that believed "stealth" was wrapping his pot in tin foil while attempting to go through airport security.

all i remember is pot in tin foil and missed free throws in crunch time. i dont even remember the game but my friend and i went outside after he lost us the game and kept yelling damon stoudamire and chucking the ball at the rim as hard as we could. i think it was against jazz in playoffs maybe
