YOU FUCKING SUCK MCGOWAN.

"A new direction" WHY DID WE NEED TO GO ANOTHER DIRECTION? THERE WAS NO FUCKING NEED TO GO A NEW DIRECTION. NONE. ZERO.

You know what they say about fixing something that aint broken...

The new Blazer TV broadcast team has been announced!

And all games will be broadcast from a food cart instead of a broadcast truck.

How did what you quote signify that? It didn't.
But how should it be handled where it doesn't "come out of nowhere" ? Mention publicly you might replace them before you let them go? Generally unless you're somehow closely connected, this sort of thing will come out of nowhere

I share the sentiments that a lot of you have; I think it was time for Rice to go, but letting Barrett go is a head scratcher for me.

I may be wrong, someone here might know better than I, but weren't the Mikes voted as one of the best broadcast teams in the NBA by their peers just this past season?

Why not? I can see he can carry a broadcast... Tone added nothing... I forgot he was there half the time. The only time I knew he was there was when he talked too long and we missed a play.

Did I miss something? Why is the talk centered around Wheels being by himself? How do you know they won't replace Tone with another color guy? :dunno:

The Oregonian article said he would be by himself.

It was how it was done that is disappointing.

This is what happens when you bring in a bunch of mercs from outside of Portland who aren't even basketball guys. They're just sports industry guys, so the team and the city mean nothing to them. It's just another stop on their way up the ladder.

Neil lives and breathes basketball. It's his life. I can't say the same thing for the rest of them.

Trail Blazers broadcasters 'Mike & Mike' voted a top NBA TV duo

Trail Blazers television broadcasting team Mike Barrett and Mike Rice have been voted one of the NBA's best among local broadcasters, according to a recent poll by sports media blog "Awful Announcing."

The site polled its readers for their opinions on each local broadcast team around the league, complete with weighted grades, to determine the best and worst crews the NBA has to offer.

The Mikes were voted as one of the best local broadcast teams, coming in at No. 8 out of 30:

Most popular grade: A (45.93% of voters)

Analysis: A lot of As — the third-highest raw total — for this unabashed homerific crew. Barrett and Rice, to their credit, work in top notch word play and funny anecdotes whenever possible. Blazers fans, known to poo-poo how little national media attention their team gets, showed up for their guys — good for them.

Reader comments: "I have always enjoyed the banter between Mike Barrett and Mike Rice. They have great energy together. It probably helps that they have worked with each other for a while too! They will crack jokes occasionally and i don't mind when broadcasters do that because it means that they are comfortable working together." – CUbsfan

The stylish duo of Mike Breen and Walt "Clyde" Frazier, who team up to call New York Knicks games, earned the top spot, while the Houston Rockets broadcast crew – which includes former Blazers great Clyde Drexler – came in dead last:

Analysis: This crew's hideous marks are a reflection of their staunch homerism. According to Worrell, Drexler and Bullard, there's never been a justifiable call made against the Rockets. Ironically, the crew is anti-3-point-shot, even as Daryl Morey has grown Houston into the avatar of the analytic movement, fostering a "Get off my lawn" attitude to the entire broadcast.

I would be awesome! I would break Rice's technical foul record the first week of the season.

Denny, "Here I sit alone in only the 7th game of the season... again... Sure is nice to have a part time partner in this broadcasting. If I can get Sly to stop getting tossed from games, maybe we can actually have some color to this commentating...But no. He insists on pissing all over the court any time he disagrees with the refs..."

Barring there be a legit reason why they are replacing the 3 of them, it's interesting to notice that the Muhammad Ali dying thread got 184 posts.

This one is already at 112.

“After reviewing our entire broadcast operation over the past couple of seasons, I felt it was a good time for us to transition into a new direction,” McGowan said. “I would like to thank our broadcasters for their years of dedicated service to our organization and wish them nothing but success in their future endeavors. Going forward, we will focus our efforts on a national search to fill our open TV broadcast positions, with the number one goal of bringing in top-notch talent that our fans will be excited to watch during Trail Blazers broadcasts.”

And I feel like it's a good time to see yourself out.

If you didn't like them, then why the hell are people upset that they are let go?
Barrett was OK. Rice was trash & should have been let go several years ago.

Because it's not about them... it's about the organization.

Bigger picture. Surprised I had to explain that, seemed so obvious.

As memorable as Ali is/was, he isnt a local hero. This is messing with our own backyard. I knew this thread would explode. It will be 10 plus pages by the time I get home because it doesn't make sense, so we will speculate and create our own conclusions all day long.
