I'm armchair quarterbacking but I'm guessing that the next announcement is that as part of the new TV deal there will no longer be any Blazer Broadcasting, it will all be done by Comcast Sports NW.

Mmmmm... color commentating by Quick and Jaynes.

So, B rated broadcasting team by Comcast.

Typical Blazers FO if they do that.

I really hope that's not it, getting back into bed with Comcast combined with what they just did would be the last straw for some fans. These dude were around long before Comcast too so it makes no sense.

The only thing I can see is they're going to a new channel and want a completely fresh start?

But the question still remains as to WHY they need to do a fresh start? That makes 0 sense to me to HAVE a fresh start.... It's just a new channel, not a new organization.

I had really hoped that our team had turned a corner with Neil/McGowan, but this is the same kind of ignorant move that Steve Patterson would make. What a joke.

If this happens, I will boycott. I thought the objective was to get OUT from under commiecasts thumb. Not shove our asses further under it.

You're right, it still doesn't make sense. This is a total head scratchier unless they have some really big names willing to come in, like Mychal Thompson or some other big name former player.

If this is true this could all be semantics as Comcast could then hire both and there really is no change. I think the bigger question is did Root or someone else swoop in and get the broadcasting deal. They don't have any ties to Mike and Mike.

I do have a hard time believing that the Blazers won't have a say in who calls their games because like it or not they do represent the team.

Root Sports NW would be the only other channel that I could see working. I really hope they don't fuck this up already worse than it is... I demand two fun announcers! I do NOT want our guys to be robots on the call.

The only upside to all of this is that we can all finally get hammered with Rice during games, in person. Finally.

Totally, he is a great basketball mind and really interesting! I think he decided to quit his broadcasting career because of back pain but in recent interviews he's talked about feeling better.
He does Pac 12 games. I try to watch all of them

Trail Blazers Announce Changes to Television and Radio Broadcast Talent

Portland Trail Blazers President & CEO Chris McGowan today announced that television play-by-play announcer Mike Barrett; television color analyst Mike Rice; and radio analyst Antonio Harvey will not be on the broadcast team beginning with the upcoming 2016-17 season. No replacements have been hired as yet, though McGowan said a search for successors has already begun. Radio play-by-play voice Brian Wheeler will return for his 19th season, with current plans for him to broadcast games without an analyst on flagship Rip City Radio AM-620 and the Trail Blazers Radio Network.

“After reviewing our entire broadcast operation over the past couple of seasons, I felt it was a good time for us to transition into a new direction,” McGowan said. “I would like to thank our broadcasters for their years of dedicated service to our organization and wish them nothing but success in their future endeavors. Going forward, we will focus our efforts on a national search to fill our open TV broadcast positions, with the number one goal of bringing in top-notch talent that our fans will be excited to watch during Trail Blazers broadcasts.”

Barrett ends his run with the Trail Blazers after 17 seasons, 13 of which as the lead play-by-play TV broadcaster. Rice, a successful collegiate and high school basketball coach, concludes 26 years with the Trail Blazers organization, including 11 years on-air as television color commentator. A former Trail Blazers player whose pro career spanned 10 years – eight years with six NBA teams and two internationally, Harvey wraps an 11-year run as Portland’s radio analyst.

Harvey just was not very good. And as much as I liked Rice over the years....it was time to replace him as well. Or at least getting close to that time.

Barrett on the other hand is pretty good. In all the games I have watched/listened to........he has rarely irritated me. And that is saying a lot. Maybe he can now join Comcast and get hired back in some capacity.

What a bullshit statement. Also, I think it's stupid that they're going to have Wheels fly solo.

My father and I still got a kick out of Antonio even if he wasn't the best, and while Rice was close to retirement anyway, they should have just let him go out on his own terms (unless he was retiring now anyway?). Barrett makes no sense though.
