I'm thinking a combination of muted television with Wheels on in the background will be the order of the day.

That is what I did for years with the Mike's. They got better recently talking about something other than how bad the refs were calling the game though.

I like the way they call games..it's that simple.

Haven't listened to them, so I'll take your word for it. My comment was more about people who ragged on Mike & Mike for homerism. They had just the right mix as far as I am concerned.

I think many here are over-reacting to this news. Sad, yes for the 3 involved. But a normal part of business life.

I would guess that the team has made its decision about a broadcasting partner (Comcast, Root, etc.) and that the new broadcaster wants some say-so in who the Blazers might have in the chairs. Just a guess.

Personally, I was ready for Tone and Rice to move on to other gigs. But, I liked Barrett just fine.

Oh, Lordy! Big changes bring so much rage at RC2. I do appreciate you all gathering the news in one place and giving me some chuckles this fine Wednesday.
Ed O?

I thought you were dead, man?

I would like to add my voice to the chorus of:

BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And Fuck Chris McGowan

Did the Sonics broadcast on Root/FSNW? Does Calabro have some ties there? Previous relationships always are a big deal in business.

Kevin Calabro needs to be hired.
One of the best in the business.

Whenever there is a change like this, it's tough for it not to come across as a blindside type of announcement. Even if some type of Ambassador=like transition had been announced, people would still be wondering why and the people that liked any or all 3 would be incensed. This likely has to do with a bigger business negotiation and if they were going to keep any 1 of the 4, they kept the right one even though I do also worry about Wheels bouts of depression when left alone.

If somehow they were let go because of a negotiation that allows the Blazers to be seen on almost ANYTHING but Comcast, that will be worth the change.

They are going to bring in someone who can speak Chinese after the Blazers sneak into the draft & take Zhou Qi. It's all part of the master plan to expand the Portland market.

New TV contract to be announced July 1st.

To be announced, yes, but it doesn't go into effect until after next season.

But could there be a buyout with Comast and the Trail Blazers if the Blazers choose a new TV partner and the new partner wants to start this season? That's what I'm hoping for. Then I can cancel my Comcast ASAP and sign up with DirectTV.

I'm hoping that Netflix will finally take the jump into live sports.

This sucks.

Anyway, who might be the replacements? I hope the color commentators are former Blazers. Are there any former blazers providing color commentary anywhere right now?

Why would Calabro come here? Would he give up his NBA/ESPN radio job for Portland? I'm not sure that's a realistic option.

I want to like Wheels' broadcast. I really do, but man, when he goes into whine mode he drives me nuts. Besides, broadcasting on 620 am is about like listening to your best friend talking to you on a 1960's vintage walkie-talkie. Annoying as hell as they fade in and out as you drive.

When we're down big, Wheels sounds like the world is about to end. I'm already bummed that we're losing, I don't need to hear Wheels say "Aminu takes a three.... *sigh*..... miss."

Or on the other side, "Thompson puts up another 3...what do you think...?"

Horse(head) trading.

Yes, the Mike's were "imbedded" with the team, and so not "impartial". That's a good thing, for the fans.

Despite their partiality, The Mikes showed far less actual "bias" than most broadcast teams I've seen. They were actually willing to laugh and admit when the replay showed they were wrong. And I like that.

I will miss them.

Sad to see Mike Rice leave. He was a nice bridge back to Schonz. MB and Tone, I think they can probably find better.
