Mike Conley? WTF?! (Trade rumor)

Ugh. I don't like Conley at all. I wouldn't be at all excited about giving up Outlaw for him. I didn't like Conley as a draft prospect and nothing he's done in the NBA has caused me to revise my opinion of him. He is exceptional at nothing (except quickness, I guess) and he's small. I think Bayless is a much, much better prospect.

Bibby is washed up. I'd rather get Conley as he at least has some upside. However, I don't want to give up Sergio. This is especially the case if we're doing this solely to reach out to Oden.

Bibby hits 43% of the 3 pt shots, which is what a PG (and also SF) needs to do in Nate's offense. He's 30 years old. That isn't "washed up".

I like the move because Bibby is the one thing this team needs; a veteran starter with extensive play-off experience.

The one thing that I don't like is that Bibby's contract is up after this season, so I'd be afraid to move either Outlaw or Webster as part of a package for him.

That's why I think this deal is possible. It's just a deal to consolidate some talent and have Bayless start getting more minutes.

i actually think conley needs oden more than oden needs conley. and that conley will rise to top form around oden again.

Conley's top form isn't top-level. He couldn't shoot at Ohio State from 19'9". What makes him a threat from 23'9"?

What is the point then? This makes no sense. Give away Outlaw for Conley so Bayless can play more? Is Bayless going to play the 4 on the second unit?

I'm pretty sure Conley would be our starting PG after just a few games with the Blazers. If KP is giving up maybe Outlaw and Sergio for him we better let him start.

That will still be Frye, with Webster coming back, and Batum playing so well we have a logjam at SF. Outlaw I think is the most expendable and his stock is reasonably high. If we did the deal we most likely get Warrick who can play the 4 also. You do realize that, right?

Wow, if that is the case, once Conley struggles all of the negative Outlaw/Jack/Frye posts we've seen the past two years will seem like child's play.

Conley rarely plays down the stretch for a bad team like Memphis. I don't want to see him starting on this team.

What is your obsession with having a point guard that can shoot three pointers? Blake's 3PT shooting is nice, but not a necessity. We've been able to manage just fine with Sergio on the floor, who, let's admit, is still a pretty bad shooter.

The other players we've had at the point, Roy and Rudy, are able to shoot the three, so it's not like we're completely getting rid of the three ball at the one.

Should we be trying to get Lowry instead?

what makes him shooting 3's the most important thing in the world? he needs to use his quickness to penetrate and dish, thats his game. not to mention he is supposedly a great defender at the pg spot. he is doing better in the last 5 games or so shooting wise, 50% from the field and 3pt.

do you think conley sucks?

I still don't see how this opens up time for Bayless. Maybe put Kyle Lowry in the place of Conley? Either way, Bayless is still playing in front of a guy who was just traded for, and Hakim Warrick brings very little this team needs on its second unit as long as Joel or Oden are on it. Plus, Warrick is on an expiring contract, so it makes even less sense unless the plan is to sign him.

If so, make him the centerpiece of the deal and stay away from Conley.

No, not at all. I just don't see how he improves this team now or in the future. Nice low blow though. I didn't expect that from you.

And since when is Conley a "great defender"?

The lineup, IMO would look like this

Sergio/Bayless/Conley
Roy/Rudy
Batum/Webster
Aldridge/Frye/Warrick/
Oden/Pryzbilla

Whatever happens IKPWT

I didn't say he would be in the 4th qtr for us. At least not at first. Conley starts for Memphis and probably will here after he gets use to the team. I'm not sure about this trade and maybe there is something else in the works because we would still have a log jam at PG and maybe PF/SF when Webster comes back and we need to consolidate. I'm still hoping this trade isn't for real but will wait and see if it does.

I don't think the trade will work with Blake instead of Sergio and they didn't mention anything about Blake. I think if it is true it would be Sergio/Outlaw for Conley/Warrick.

my bad, just having a little fun. appypollyloggy.

not sure about the defense, although that was the word on him last i checked. i think we need a memphis fans opinion.

if they want sergio and travis they can thow in arthur :ghoti:

that would be ironic.

Ha. I was fired up about getting Arthur in the draft. I thought it was such a steal, which it actually does look to be. Just not for the Blazers, but I like what Portland did with the pick.

Win/win so far on that one.

Hey, this tread is better than what we've had for a week or so. I'll take it!

Go Blazers!

I'd think they'd want Blake instead of Sergio (for all the reasons we would...spot-up shooter, can play off Mayo, "veteran", not make many mistakes, defense isn't as important in MEM).

Blake and Outlaw and Diogu for Conley/Walker works. Walker becomes our 14th man, paid to wear a suit like Raef and be an expiring contract. They "upgrade" Conley for Blake, and get Diogu and Outlaw for some scoring punch (and some talent for Walker's contract).

Kind of a steep price to get Conley. But if we're really "letting the cake bake" this year, I'd rather lose with Conley/Sergio/Bayless than be ok with Blake. He's not a part of the Future, right?

Rumors have been saying the Grizzlies are looking for outside shooting. Blake gives you that over, Sergio.

Maybe there is more then just Memphis in the trade then. I doubt this trade happens through. Even giving up Outlaw and Sergio is to much IMO and I'm not sure that is good enough for Memphis.

I wouldn't trade Outlaw for a third-string point guard and third-string power forward. Outlaw has become a good player, starter-quaiity and a premium scorer off the bench. In either role, he has a lot more value than Conley and/or Warrick.

I'd much rather just keep Outlaw and Blake. I want a consolidation trade, but this just seems like a drastic downgrade in total talent.

I asked 'confucious,' or whatever Mike Rice calls his alter ego, on Courtside this week "Will Mike Conley be a Trailblazer by the deadline?" and he replied, in short, "No."

Why would Memphis give up $9 million in cap space for Outlaw, who would be a bench player behind Gay, and Blake, who would compete with Crittenton and Lowry for PT? Diogu is basically a nothing in this deal.

How often is Mike Rice right? Didn't he predict that Jose Calderon would be a Blazer by the start of the season?
