Imagine we have a choice of ONE of these three PGs going into the season (obviously the rest of the roster remains the same, so if you pick someone other than Miller, he just replaces Andre on the roster).

One's a good shooter. One's a good passer. One's both. All three are poor defenders. I think I'd go with Jose. I'm sure I'm in the minority. I'm OK with that.

I'm of the opinion that while Mo Williams isn't perfect, he's kind of a "superBlake", which seems to fit well with what our offense does. I'm assuming he can pass the ball in to Oden on an entry pass. That could be making an a$$ out of u and Yao Ming.

I think Miller is better for Oden and LMA. I think Calderon or Williams would compliment Roy more. Over all I would stick with Miller out of those 3.

I voted for Miller. I'd really like one other person on the team I can rely on from the wing to get to the basket. Mo and Calderon aren't it.

I like any of the three, but among the two "new" options, Jose Calderon seems like the right type of play to play with this team. He can sink it from deep (not as good as Mo), and pass the rock (more assists than Mo). Both are older than the rest of the core, though, and just buy us a couple extra years over Miller. Neither would be in their prime when Oden/Batum is.

While Miller is solid player, we'll never get past the 1st round with him as our starter. The Suns gave the rest of the NBA the blueprint for shutting him down in a series and he'll never make the other teams respect his outside shooting.

I voted for Mo given the choices simply because Jose tuuuurible on D.

It's interesting that just about everybody who's commented has picked other than Andre, but Miller leads by a mile. Obviously he has the support of the silent majority.

Why these three? Because people don't seem happy with Miller (at least, those that comment), and these two are almost certainly available for Joel/Andre plus filler.

I disagree. The reason Miller wasn't effective after they put Hill on him is because there were no more players on the roster left that could get their own shot, or shoot from the perimeter to create space. If Roy would have been healthy, there is no way Richardson has the series he did. Batum needs to develope an offensive game so they can't ignore him mostly. If you surround Miller with the correct pieces, they can't put Hill on him. The problem for Portland was a lack of firewpower in the lineup. Not Miller. Oden will provide a post threat, which when surrounded with shooters (like Mathews instead of the 0-12 through 3 quarters Rudy) will provide the spacing necessary for the offense to work.

I think hasoos nailed it - a healthy Roy or Oden (or more so, both) - would have made guarding Miller much harder. To be honest, I do not like any of these 3 long-term, even if they could all play long-time with this team, Mo Williams does not sound like the right guy, culture wise, Miller can't shoot, Calderon can't defend. If Roy/Oden/LMA/Batum are healthy and can play big minutes going forward, I would like someone that can defend some and shoot the 3, Miller can't do the shooting, Calderon can't defend, Mo is somewhere in the middle but does not sound like the best fit.Maybe Armon can work hard on his shooting, if he does, he might be the PGotF.

You could make a case for Calderon over Miller - but there is no way in hell we want Damon 2.0.

That's to many "ifs" IMHO. If Oden is healthy. If Brandon is healthy. If Batum develops an offensive game.

We aren't contenders until we have a legit PG that can thrive in any situation presented. If our PG needs a dominant center, then he's not the player I'm looking for.

For this team, I agree that Jose is the better selection. However, All three are not good defenders, but I think Miller is better than either Mo or Jose. But I think with the rest of the D on the team, we could have one position be a little weaker on D.

I think that is a very big assumption. He is not a good passer at all. This is the reason I say no to him, he really sucks in this area.

I think that Jose might also be better for Oden. Like Miller, Jose is a good passer, but unlike Miller, Jose can shoot to spread the floor, and does not operate in the same area as Oden. Not sure who would be better for LMA, but I think both Roy and Oden would be better off with Jose, at least on the offensive end.

You know who seems like they'd make a decent fit....Jarrett Jack

You bring up a good point, but I do like a PG that can penetrate with the ability of dishing off to a big man. (or attacking and throwing a nice little lob pass). Miller is much better than Jose in doing that. It is one thing to have a decent entry pass and another to have the knack of delivering the ball in traffic.

I think you hit the nail on the head: Batum needs to develop an offensive game! He needs to become a slasher / develop some slasher moves at least, and we know he can hit the J. So we need to integrate him into the offense and he needs to become much more aggressive himself.

This alone (injuries aside) could make a whole lot of difference in wins/losses.

We must find more weapons - because it gets a little predictable having Roy dribble the ball down himself at the end of quarters and end of games.

If you replace Miller with either of those other two in the series against the Suns, we don't win a single game. Using that series as evidence that we won't win a first round series with Miller as starting PG is just plain silly.
