OT MLB to PDX: We're talking baseball to PDX (6 Viewers)

I love football. However, I read somewhere that there is only like 13 total minutes of action over the course of a 3 hour game. That's wild.

Yeah, it's amazing how little of actual action is in a football game. When I was coaching basketball at the youth level I had a split of players coming off soccer season and some who were coming off football season. When I had the team run lines, the soccer players were far ahead of the football players in endurance and conditioning.

Ah, Baseball. Easily the most beautiful sport. Mariners doin' it again.

And cano is till out for what, like 50 more games? Such a beautiful team sport.

Baseball in Portland would be FANTASTIC! I used to call in to talk radio shows in the early 90's saying that Portland needed more pro sports teams, and could handle it. I would get caller feedback like, NO! we've got hunting and fishing and don't need it. That attitude frustrated me. I moved to Denver, enjoyed the time of great development in this area. Helped in a very small way as part of CFANS, to collect signatures to get the stadium for the Broncos on the ballot, and always vote for money for the arts, and cultural centers (Museums, and Zoo) because they add to the quality of life for all. Now my native state is calling me home, and I would love to see live MLB in Portland. Make it happen PDX.

I remember those responses. I also remember the fishing and hunting show on KFXX, and how painful it was listening to it.

I never understood that mindset either.

we have a hunting and fishing show here too , on the weekend, but we also have ALL 4 major league sports, plus soccer, and are only slightly larger than Portland population wise. The Broncos sellout every game (76,000 strong). The Rockies are top 10 in attendance every year (over 30,000 per.), the Nuggets and Avalanche only sellout when they're good. The Nuggets have barely 10,ooo in the seats on most nights unless it's (Warriors, Cavs, Lakers, or Bulls).

Oh, and the Rapids, who won the title before the Timbers, do well at there own Soccer Stadium in Commerce City.

But we're different here! (mostly the little brother syndrome that runs rampant in Portland).

It's more likely it will disturb the turd that's floating by after the sewers flooded and ran into the Willamette.
Comments like this absolutely slay me every time I hear them. They just perpetuate the existing ignorance. Learn the complete story, then post Fams........

I think you mean jokes. It was meant to be funny. In other words, not taken seriously.

Sounds like you might have a shitty attitude. :bgrin:

Brewer & Shipley 1971?

MLB in Portland would be awesome. Even if you're not a 'hawks fan, c'mon having Russ as an investor only makes a stronger case. Let it happen peeps. Would love to have an I-5 baseball rivalry.
The problem is, where's the money gonna come from?

When that group got started they had Jerry Garcia. Ask Sly about the time he met and jammed with Jerry Garcia, it's a very cool story.

Then I apologize for overreacting. But 35 years spent fighting misperceptions and outright ignorance while working to improve existing water quality resources tends to make one overly sensitive sometimes. My bad.......

Sorry man. Didn't mean it as an insult. There's the cliche jokes about the Willamette and Columbia.

Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!

Yeah, but if you had been alive in the ‘60’s you’d understand just how clean both rivers are currently. But then, we’re testing for a lot more pollutants now and in much, much smaller concentrations. So it’s not exactly apples to oranges. When I was a kid the bank side trees and vegetation would be “decorated” with old condoms and strands of toilet paper when the river dropped after heavy rains. It was truly horrid.

I believe they call that an LA Christmas.

I have heard stories about the Columbia. I think one of them was about a slaughterhouse that turned the river red. Might be an old wives tale though.
