I would really love to see the Orcas with Native American art as the logo, but the Canucks already do that, and people would bitch about cultural appropriation.

Portland Mavericks was, and is, a great name. Dallas didn't become the Mavericks until the year after the Portland Mavericks folded.

Fuck those Texas fuckers.

I like the Mavericks. Kind of a companion name to the Trail Blazers. It works. Not fancy but very Portland since it's from a past team.

Yeah that works too. That's actually probably the name that will bring about the strongest local identity. What sucks is every time we'd lose a game the opposing teams Twitter will announce "YOU HAVE DIED FROM DYSENTERY."

Oregon in general has historically had a maverick reputation, including past politicians Tom McCall, Wayne Morse, and even good old Bud Clark.

How does that suck? Any reference to the Oregon Trail computer game is awesome.

This is so stupid but in Madden 2003 or 04 I moved the 49ers to Hillsboro and named them Oregon Trail, mostly as a joke.
 
If Pioneers was the name would you prefer...

Portland Pioneers

Oregon Pioneers

Rose City Pioneers

Portland sounds the best but then we'd be PP.

I don't mind it a couple of times a year when we lose to Washington or WSU and they ALWAYS use it. But since MLB plays around 162 games on average, that meme I imagine would get kind of annoying after a while.
 
As someone who isnt a baseball fan, but I also dont want to sound disrespectful. What is the chances of this happening?
Im sure some of you are more in the know than I am. From my POV baseball to portland has come up a bunch of times, but this seems to have more traction than most.
Id rather have NHL selfishly, but another pro franchise would be cool for the city.
Just wondering do you guys feel like this ones more for real than the other ones?
