Oakland A's aren't going anywhere. This is a move by the league to put pressure on the local politicians.

Mariners have been to the playoffs 4 TIMES since 1977.

I know it is, but I doubt it does anything. I think the As move.

Wow. Shows however little attention I pay to baseball... I had no idea. I thought they were at least middling...

Agreed. But am guessing it'll be the las Vegas A's
People will freak out but in reality that would be the best possible outcome for MLB to PDX.

Without Vegas, Portland would almost be guaranteed to get a team if/when expansion occurs.

Reality says Vegas... but man who knows when expansion comes in. 2035 maybe?

This is an area that the city hasnt been very progressive over many years.

What could they really do beyond what they have done to make it happen? It's hard as hell to get a team into a city.

I recall several times several decades ago when the idea came up but the politicians and residents were not interested in any financial burden.

It takes more than the idea. I think this is the closest we have come... it just takes so much for a city like ours to get anything in the "big leagues" cause of where we're stationed. It's slowly eroding so I expect a major league SOMETHING here in the next 15 years.

Not sure how old you are, but I said the same think back in the 60's/70's/80's
There was a plan to build the Delta Dome in 60's that actually went to a vote and people voted it down.

Hmm.. interesting.

I stand corrected. I in fact had not heard of the delta dome. Would that have been built at delta park? Lol.

Regardless, I think times have changed and we will see a major team here in the next 15 years. Just hopefully not the NFL.

I believe if Oakland moved in my scenario to Vegas it would greatly speed up the expansion process.

Curious as to your thinking on that. How did you come up with that? (Totally legit, no snark).

Which is still good for Portland's hopes of landing an expansion franchise eventually.

Yeah. It’ll be hockey. Or maybe soccer... but can you really consider that “major league”?

I need some MLB or NFL. After those two and NBA, the others are good entertainment when in the stands, but I otherwise don’t really care for them...

Oh damn dude an NHL team would be legit. Hockey is so much freaking fun live. Not so much on TV. (Same with baseball). I'll probably be going to a couple games in Seattle in the next couple of years.

I honestly hope we don't get the NFL. Not because I hate it with a passion, but it will really put up a stink on the Blazers and they already own this city.

Then again, that rules out the NHL.

MLB has been saying from the beginning that expansion won't happen until the Oakland and Tampa Bay situations are solved. They've also are said to want at least one Pacific Time Zone team added if they do expand for divisional purposes.

So if Oakland moved to Vegas it would eliminate Portland's main competition for that west coast team and Oakland wouldn't get a team. Plus it would likely force the Tampa situation to be figured out soon.

Okay that's fair. I knew some of that stuff I just didn't connect it. Thanks for spelling it out for my dumb brain lmao.

It's probably still a bit of wishful thinking but if Oakland stays there's a chamce MLB would choose Vegas over Portland. Having Oakland move there would be huge.

Logical on all accounts. I got ahead of my skis there lol.

A little update-

A couple memos went across my desk about companies asking for numbers on steel fabrication changes for prices on materials. This thing might not be dead yet? The issues we have now is the cost of steel has skyrocketed in the last 8 months. Also fuel and energy prices have increased significantly as well.

We also have a couple new ecological issues on the river if that is the passageway they choose for delivery. There is a lot that goes into building a stadium but like i said this thing does not seem dead just yet. The "riot" issues are still a very bad way for this city to attract any kind of revenue maker like this. We have to get things under control quickly.
