I’ve always preferred
Yetis or Mermaids or Unicorns or some other non existent creature

Tho I like the "non existent" part due to the fact it'll never happen, I hope they don't go with some lame ass name like the Seattle NHL team did. But since it's never going to happen, it's honestly something I've stopped thinking about. Thought I just thought of a good name. The Portland Grifters, named in honor of the Portland Diamond Project.

I, as a former bird biologist, love that many MLB teams are named after local birds. Portland should be The Portland Swifts, named after the Vaux's Swifts that roost at the Chapman School every fall.

The term "swift" also has connotations of being quick and agile.

I like Pilots. I know U of Portland are the Pilots, but because shipping is big here, Pilots makes sense. Plus you could have a cool Tug boat in the outfield stands area that sounds off for a home run.

The Portland Hobos.

Or maybe the Portland Catalytic Converters.

They more than likely wouldn't do that due to the Seattle Pilots history (and then it would be just seen as Portland trying to be Seattle, blah blah blah as if Kraken isn't the lamest name in all of sports, and I'm including Real Salt Lake)

They need to change the title of that article to "Other major cities have lapped Portland in MLB expansion race"
SLC is very pro business oriented as are their politicians. Portland needs to become more business driven w/o turning bright red.
Mike Barrett would agree 100%.

Pirate Pilots or River Pilots just to differentiate.

I get what you're saying on the name Pilots. I actually think Kraken is pretty cool. Names that have to do with Portland and the region that have been already taken, or used : Roses (Thorns), mountains (Sea-Port Cascades), trees (Timbers),rivers (Breakers) , craft brewers ( Hops) , ( Milwaukee Brewers). Animal names: (Beavers OSU), (Ducks U of O). I agree, something original is needed. I would like Bridgetown to be on the jerseys. That's kinda cool. Portland has a ton of bridges. You could have the St Johns Bridge Towers in the Bridgetown design on the jerseys.

How 'bout Bridgetown River Pilots. That's pretty cool. With one of the St Johns Bridge Towers integrated through the Bridgetown stitching on the front of the Jersey.

The Bridgetown River Pilots trounced the Boston Red Sox 10 - 2 at " The Dock" . Nickname for the awesome retractable dome the Diamond Project has a design for.

When you pick any name you need to be careful of what it rhymes with, because inevitably some annoying fan will go there and it will stick. Swifts sound too much like Whiffs.....not ideal for baseball.

The Kraken is a great name

Dodo’s?

There is a bit of irony that this thread gets a little traction once the blazers season is done. It's almost as if everyone is looking for something to do. It'd be a shame if there was something to occupy your time, like another sports franchise or something.

I love this. Fantastic suggestion.
I am biased, but I can't really think of a more fitting name. It offers great material for logos and such too. You could have a Portland spelled out in stylized lettering with with the chimney in place of the "l" with a stylized flock of swifts leading in.
