OT MLB to PDX: We're talking baseball to PDX

I, as a former bird biologist, love that many MLB teams are named after local birds. Portland should be The Portland Swifts, named after the Vaux's Swifts that roost at the Chapman School every fall.

The term "swift" also has connotations of being quick and agile.
Doesn't the city have Peregrine Falcons? Trained falcons would be a groovy mascot.

The Anarchists

The BLMs

The Portland Protest

The Hipsters

The Portland Bridges

The Columbians (Maybe a cartel could buy us a team)

The Rose

The Donuts

The Hoods

The Meet Me at Mt. Tabors

The Beavers

Don't mind me. I have a fever.

For more Cowbell!
Nobody goes to Mt Tabor anymore…… unless they want to get shanked by a homeless guy.

We certainly hope not. It would be nice if this Diamond Group really packs a punch. What's going on in Tampa is a travesty. They have a great club, bad stadium or not, and don't pack the place. B.S. Floriduh, great for Spring Training, total dud for The Show. Even when they have won it all (Marlins). They used to blame it on a poor stadium ( Pro Player, before reno). But now they have an awesome retractable dome, and still dont fill it. Only the World Baseball Classic woke them up.

"The Rays"? No wonder nobody goes to their games.

Always thought Devil Rays was stupid. Should have been Sting Rays.

Has there been any legitimate polling on this? I would be interested to see what the numbers are. Getting a temperature from people on a sports forum is one thing but I wonder if it differs greatly from the general population.

I called into KEX in the early 90's. They were discussing the possibility of getting NFL to Portland. I was bigtime excited about the idea. They poo poo'd it with, "we've got hunting and fishing". Plus we need to pay for Fire & Police.

I ended up moving to Denver. When it came time that Pat Bowlen wanted a New Stadium because Mile High had run it's course (It Had), My Ex and I joined CFANS (Citizens for a new Stadium) and got signatures for a 1 cent for every 10 dollars spent tax. It passed, and easily paid off the stadium. It was an extention of the tax that paid for Coors Field. So it paid off 2 stadiums. Of course stadiums back then didn't cost billions like they do today. Still can't believe 7 billion for So Fi.

If Portland is ever to get a team the A's moving to Las Vegas was the first step. If it's true that MLB wants one of the two expansion teams to be in a western time slot, then it's pretty much between Portland and Salt Lake City to see who can finalize plans quicker.

It was never going to be Portland

SLC will pull out all stops and they are experienced in big time event planning and building. Politics and business are in synch in that city which makes them very aggressive. I hope PDX turns on the rocket boosters and clears any hurdles quick show that business and city/state is 100% behind effort. Thats Mormon business model is ruthlessly aggressive.

Sac Town isn't in the running?

Yeah we have no chance against SLC ATM.
