Mo Ager

Last night against Chicago Frank threw in Ager. Now I've heard that when he was in Dallas all he did was basically take the ball and shoot it and that's just what he did last night, but he didn't look bad. He's really got to learn to pass but he's got some natural scoring ability. He only played like 4 minutes and had 8 points with 2 and 1's and a 3. I think he's only being a ball hog b/c he never gets minutes and he's trying to show off his talent and insert himself into the rotation. I doubt anything happens this season, but maybe next year he can play a bigger role and can turn into a very good scorer. Thoughts?

well yeah. (did not see last night due to a coma which followed the second quarter.)

but it will be tough to get him into the rotation if he's a 1 dimentional player.

Ager isn't a one dimensional player. He is actually pretty well rounded in both scoring and defense. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he turned out to be a very good NBA player, and I think he will. However, i think future star might be a little out of reach for him.

i was screaming at the TV 24/7 after the trade to play ager, its obvious Frank doesnt want to play him just b/c he missed his first shot as a net. this guy was hungry to win and gets some points/pt. he deserves it 8 pts, in 3 minutes. pretty good.

D'Alessandro yesterday on Ager...

Well, he has two things working for him - an absolutely beautiful jump shot (so far, seen only in warmups) and another guaranteed season at $1.04M (with a $1.8 team option for '09-10). But this should have been a D-League season for him. I assume he'll go to summer league and try to do something about that robust 27-percent stroke during all the other down months, but he had better make some major gains if they're going to take him seriously going into next year's camp. No matter what Donnie may have said, I don't know of anyone else who is willing to stake their reputation on the kid being an NBA player.

If you're basing that on last night, fine, but if a kid has been sitting on the bench and gets a shot, it's about what you should expect. And he showed he could take it to the hole and hit from deep.

I think he will get an opportunity now. Hassell's minutes are dropping (how about HIS shot selection?!) and I assume Frank was giving Ager an audition.

Nets liked him before the draft in 2006. He was on their short list after what Stefanski said was a terrific workout.

If he works out, great. If he doesn't, no loss. He was a throw-in after Avery Johnson lost faith in him.

he should find a niche for himself...drop the open shot from deep 40% of the time and he'll be playing 20 mins a game what with the nets not having a spot-up shooter...if bruce bowen can learn it anyone could...that's an oversimplification though, being a "spot-up shooter" entails a lot more than an accurate shot...

1. he should learn the plays by heart to get himself into the best possible separation from cheating defenders and the zone defense.

2. being able to shoot is not enough but you have to have a quick release to avoid quick defenders from closing on you and defenders wanting to cheat can't stay that far away from you giving more space to scorers trying to take it inside...this is what's puzzling...we had this player in eddie house who was willing to sign but thorn wouldn't pay him the measly $500K additional salary another team was willing to offer eddie...

3. again knowing the plays will enable a spot-up shooter to make quick decisions with the ball - quick release for a shot or a quick swing to a teammate with a better scoring position...that means no chance for the defense to regroup...takes lots of practice and smarts as well...

4. next up is knowing when to drive and learn the virtually unblockable teardrop shot to finish inside...next is learning to use screens to get up a shot...this is already ray allen territory...

we get a player like this and we punish teams cheating on defense and those who try to play zone on us will pay for it...what with 2 scoring wings in vc and rj...would be good if we have a low-post scorer as well...

I didnt get to watch last nights game, but heres my view on his ballhog style (from at least what im reading here). It's garbage minutes, usually players who dont get any time will start hogging it up because they want to take that one shot to show they can put up numbers when their on the floor /w no hopes of winning /w the rest of our scrubs. Honestly if any of you can recall, how many times in garbage minutes does Boki start chucking up shots to pad his stats? because i see it happen every single time.

In conclusion, i wouldnt say hes a ballhog based on garbage minutes, and we really wont be able to tell until he gets significant time (Not in terms of minutes ex:15mpg, but in terms of playing when it actually matters.)

I was basing on what I had seen from him from Dallas. He was compared to Bonzi Wells when Dallas picked him. Though he rarely played in Dallas, I was still not encoraged by what he did every time he got the minutes...
