Not surprising. I'm sure he can do better than $2.7 million.

I have no problems with this is CJ comes on. What effect, if any does this have on our cap? (i mean other than the 3 mil dollars coming off the books) Like total cap space?

So he'll be padding his stats working on his next payday?

Great.

That might help explain his periodic blindness when he has teammates open for easier shots.

The writing is on the wall with McCollum behind him, anyhow. If CJ can't stay healthy, though, I can see the Blazers bring Mo back at the MLE.

We would still need a backup point guard though. CJ is not a point guard. He can handle the ball and he can pass, but he's not a point guard.

I wouldn't expect any differently from Mo. Not a good or bad thing at this point though.

Yeah, we will definitely need a back-up pg while McCollum is being groomed as a hybrid 1/2 (somewhat like Jarrett Jack).

Is Mo Williams a PG? Instead of having a back-up PG dribble and launch 3s, how about a back-up PG who dribbles and then drives to the rim?

Sounds like he's looking for a longer term contract. I wouldn't be against him on a 3 year 6 mil-7 mil.

Dwight Jaynes is livid talking about it. He's talking out of his butt. Classic Jaynes. He doesn't know wtf he's talking about. lol

Sometimes Mo is a point guard.... sometimes not so much.

Perfect time to trade him.

How so? Who wants to trade anything for a $3m back-up who is going to opt out of his contract after the season? I suppose the Trade Exception could be used, but how would that benefit the Blazers?

Unsurprising. He's worth a hell of a lot more than $2.7M. The contract was structured so as long as he didn't cripple himself he'd opt out.

I'd like to re-sign him.

I'd think a MLE deal would be enough to resign him. The question is whether that money is needed for a different position. Probably depends on how TRob and/or Meyers develop. Something for Olshey to deal with next summer.

I'd like him back, but figure he will go to Chicago to wait for Aldridge to go there.

Sucks to here this as he is our best bench player but It seemed obvious he would opt out because he can make more.

I'm sure a lot of fans will rejoice with this news, but I think it sucks

I agree with Nate, why would he make this statement now? What good does it do? It is a completely selfish statement and Mo being a vet should know better.

Are we sure it wasn't Wright who said it :)

I am not too concerned. By the end of the season he will either deserve more money or he won't. If the Blazers play well with him in there then they will pay him more to keep him. If they don't play well with him in there......who cares if he leaves. I thought this was the plan all along.

Portland media trying to make a mountain out of a molehill?

I think he'd come back at the MLE if McCollum proves to not be ready for major minutes. Mo is worth at least the MLE from some team, and he gets too much heat on this board. He's a very good back up swing guard.

He's taking his talents to South Beach.

I don't think so. This is his last chance at a big payday before he becomes a veteran minimum guy. If we aren't competing for a ring he is following the money.

Nobody is giving Mo Williams a starting job at PG for more than the MLE. His payday will be the MLE from someone. If it's as a starter, he'll be on a bad team. If he wants to win a ring, it will be on a team like Portland.

I think he will be looking for a four year deal in the range of $25-27 million. He's an offensive minded shoot first point guard, a bad team would likely throw money at him. He is an apt scorer. He could be insurance for Derek rose in Chicago.

Maybe optimistic but likely is looking to get paid. Despite his turnovers I'm happy with him here but likely not at the price he will command

The cupboard seemed pretty bare this last offseason for him. I doubt he gets that.
