Mo Williams?

Since we own Mo's non-bird rights, we can sign him up to 120% of his previous salary. That's about $3.2M. If we do a S&T, we can receive back up to 150% of the outgoing salary. That's about $4.8M.

Here are the teams that I see that only have one point guard on their roster, that could potentially use Mo:
- Chicago
- Cleveland
- Houston
- New Orleans
- Orlando

The main reason a team would do a S&T is because they're over the cap, and don't have the MLE or BAE available.

There are a bunch of Point Guards still available that have comparable skills to Mo - Luke Ridnour, Aaron Brooks, Ramon Session, Jameer Nelson, Rodney Stuckey.

Mo's options are pretty limited, and it's looking unlikely the team that will pick him up would need to do a S&T to get him on their roster.
 
The bulls have nothing to trade worth $3M or $4.8M.
 
The way I see it, we need a third point guard OR a veteran wing. I was hoping Wright could be that guy, but I have my doubts. Although, we might be fine with Will at the three.

I still think Wright can be a good reserve 3. Last year was his worst in a long while. His longer-term performance history (four years before coming to Portland) is as a roughly average NBA player. That's great for a reserve and he's only 28...middle of his prime, so no reason to expect age-related decline.

Fans of a team tend to put a much greater emphasis on the time spent with their team which, while it's not totally irrational since it does feature the player in that specific team's system, is still just one year in this case and not the whole picture.

While nothing is guaranteed, I think Wright is a pretty good bounce-back candidate.

You're correct. In the off=season teams can have up to 20 players on their roster; just have to whittle it down to a max of 15 by the start of the season.

I'm not sure why my "Wrong!" needed the exclamation point while riverman's two errors did not. I don't know if I can bear the shame. ;)
 
I wonder if Mo was willing to take a one year contract more like Blake's deal if we would've brought him back? Seems like he may have overplayed his hand saying he wanted a three year deal.

I'd rather give Wright's minutes to Thrilla and/or Claver, frankly. He had his moments, but he always seemed a bit one-dimensional, and his shot was so flat I was kind of amazed he had a rep as a good three point shooter.

Completely agree with you here. Wright is a good defender and rebounder. If he finds his shot, he'll be a rotation guy. Wright and Claver are 6'10 guys who can play multiple positions and keep their man in front of them. Fans want defense? Fans have to appreciate defense. We have offense all over the place and both Wright and Claver can shoot, just didn't have great shooting seasons.

Luke Ridnour is going to Orlando, and Stuckey is going to Indiana.

Decent PGs left:
- Jameer Nelson
- Ramon Sessions
- Aaron Brooks
- Mo Williams

With only a few teams still needing a backup point, it's looking like one of these guys may be signing for the vet minimum.

I read that Blazers first offered Mo a contract similar to Blake's. Mo said no so Blazers made the offer to Blake.

I think Mo (and his agent) has an over inflated idea of his worth in the NBA.

Stotts seemed to like Williams, and I don't see why he wouldn't resign here over Dallas to get more money, it's not like he wasn't getting PT here. But Blake and Mo would have to battle for the backup spot.

Some of you act like there isn't a chance but there is still a shot Portland signs this guy to a contract. Nonetheless, either way I think they use him to try to further bolster their bench in a sign and trade if they decide they aren't going to keep him.
 
I'm already on record saying I'd love Mo back. Blake & Mo could play together and play well together. Plus Blake is only averaging 50 games a season the last 3 years. Dump Crabbe, sign Mo.

He has three things going for him. Terry likes him. Damian likes him. And he was the major contributor off the bench for scoring last year. They didn't sign him until later last year. They could do it again this year.

I wouldn't mind seeing him back.

Mo can play with any of the other guards. As can Blake. It would be a very interchangeable situation. Well, at least on offense. Defensively, any combination without Matthews is going to struggle.
 
I see next to no chance he comes back, especially after signing Blake. Were he too, though, I could only see it if we had made trade shipping CJ out.

Not shipping CJ out. CJ could be our starting SG next season if the bidding gets too high on Wes.
