Maurice Harkless' lack of playing time drawing nation attention

Evaluating Tobias Harris, Maurice Harkless, and Aaron Gordon

Thanks, those helped me. He appears to have a low motor, but that may be because he moves effortlessly, silky. He is assigned the opponent's best player on defense. His stats per minute are too low. He makes his 3s before the game, but not in the game. He may have a case of Batumitis, but without the assists.

His shooting form kind of shocked me

He's a black kid from NYC but shoots like a white guy from Wisconsin(without the makes).

unlike the first for Afflalo, I have a good feeling that Moe will contribute more to the team than the 2019 version of Danny Diaz or Taurean "4 wins" Green

So based on what I am reading in this thread is no one has really seen him play that much . Everyone seems to be making their conclusion based on stats. And since stats for young players tend to be less than helpful, I guess we will have to wait and see.

No, many of us are basing it on the fact he went from the rotation to the dawg-house because of a questionable work ethic.

But again, not from actually watching him play. The questionable work ethic is one of several theories why he lost his minutes.

The Blazers really needed a SF and perimeter defender. Harkless' defensive stats look outstanding on the perimeter and really poor inside. But he gets steals, which is something the Blazers need.

We suddenly have a lot of guys that, at least in this part of their development, are best running and attacking the hoop. Are we about to run?
I hope so. Running starts with defense and rebounding. I hope the team makes a concerted effort to do all three, and runs some pick and roll to the basket in the half court.

Moe got minutes early in his career because...our man Hedo was always injured. Small world.

Will Harkless become another Batum, both the good and the bad?

Who cares? Maybe he ends up a 4 in small ball? Maybe he ends up traded for a piece in a year or so. It's not about this year

We already got Aminu for the small 4 spot and no one will want Harkless in a trade unless we'll give him a lot of minutes to inflate his numbers.
I just feel he is a waste of time (like Davis and Aminu btw).

Not to complain to much about such a minor deal, but this is the only Olshay move this summer I really don't like.

And what would you have done instead? We just got Moe for a steam sandwich...

Dame/frazier
Hendo/3j
Rük/moe
Eddie D/NV
Nards/plums

Crabbe
Frazier
Project Pat
Malcolm Thomas
Montero

Sexiest tank lineup ever!

You realize you have two Fraziers and zero Cavemen, right?

I like the transaction on the face of it. However, I don't think Harkless plays in front of Crabbe for the backup 3, and certainly not in front of Aminu for the starting 3. The 2 and 4 positions are loaded, so I don't see any of those 3 sliding into the 2 or 4 spot for any minutes at all. So, I don't like the move from a chemistry POV I don't think the "get a bunch of assets at random positions" is the right way to go. Players need minutes to develop or they will languish.

I love it, Harkless and Crabbe battle as they both are in final years where they need to start really showing something, apparently both working hard in offseason and if they are motivated now they will never be. This is what this year is about - giving guys significant chances and see what they do with it

Why do you got be so Harkless

found this very interesting on harkless and hard work/motor issues other articles alluded too. sounds like the kid is and has worked his ass off trying to get better. pay special attention to the "making the all nba defensive team" as a primary goal entering the league. aloha

That's great, if we could become a defensive juggernaut that scores in transition my heart would sing. The Trail Blazers of old were masters of the break.

The only thing that gives me hope about Harkless is that Ariza also looked like shit when he played for Orlando.
If Harkless can develop his shot like Ariza did then maybe they can have a similar career arc.

A Defensive man and a paint player. Someone else will be the second scoring threat.

I'm a little concerned references to 'Mo Heartless' from his former teams fans. He does have some talent but I'm worried we are getting more of the 'Bad Batum' who is inconsistent and doesn't play hard on so many nights than the good Batum because I don't think he has all of those skill sets. Hope he proves that incorrect.

Benched for 27 games; removed from the active roster and sent home for 10 games. Yeah, I'd say there's a red flag there.

He has 3 years in the NBA and a lot to prove. Perfect for Summer League.

Oops. Where is he right now? Getting a tan in Orlando?

Olshey! Stop congratulating yourself and call him!

And we got him motivated, in a contract year, for a cold bottle of piss. Great deal NO!
