Fuck.

Motionless and, IMO, clearly dead they decide to shoot him with the beanbags?

Yes, that will really fuck up a schizo homeless guy...pretty sure one of them says boo-yah or something.

They went full Waco on a crazy guy who was camping. Plus, they had to let the dog get a bite or two also.

Clearly that guy was about to charge them with the infamous "turn my back and bend over" rush.

If you look at those guys, they are wearing military grade helmets carrying military grade weaponry.

We are militarizing our police and this is the result.

You just shot the guy five or six times with 5.56, why the fuck do you need to sick your dog on him and shoot him with three beanbag rounds?

I'm also shocked that the guy was able to talk after taking a round to the back of the head.

"He's still got a knife!"

This was a pre-meditated murder by some poorly trained psychopaths.

Protect and Serve. That's supposedly their mission statement.

If you're not protecting anyone, and you're not serving anyone, maybe you're not doing your job.

Because he was a well known mentally ill guy who had been arrested before for cutting someone or something like that. Don't know all the details, don't care. Video says enough.

Video shows a man who looks like he's going to cooperate and the cops throwing a flashbang at him and then rushing him with guns blazing. :dunno:

You see the knives in his hands, right? You see him turn towards the dog (and its handler) right?

You read where he was delusional and repeated threatening to kill the cops for half an hour before this video begins, right?

Fucking copophobes...

So that is the new standard. What is the time limit of the standoff before they get to shoot you in the back?

The knives were not in his hands until they threw the banger at him. Did he move towards the people when they shot him? No. He was turning away. They shot him in. the. back.

You realize that you come to the defense of the cops every single time there's a thread like this, right?

translation: It's perfectly fine to kill mentally ill people because they are difficult to deal with.

His fucking back was to them when they shot him. How can someone justify a defensive shooting when the person has their back to them?

to be fair, when a cop has a gun pointed at you, shouldnt you be allowed to defend yourself? just shoot/stab them before they shoot you. seems fair.

Well obviously turning your back to them is a threatening stance. It was a trick to draw them in and then WHAM! They saw through his clever ruse.

It's not justified. That was the point of my response to BW.

ACAB

That is sickening and such abuse, the cop who shot deserves lengthy jail time

I think this is a tougher call than you all think. You have someone who has guns pointing at him and officers yelling instructions that he ignores. Does that make him dangerous? At what point do you treat someone as dangerous is the question? Do you wait to see if he pulls something out of his waistband or until he throws the knife? (Clearly he doesn't care what the police are saying . . . which is a bit of a scary mentality)

Police officers were too quick on the trigger, IMO. I also will once again say I would never want to be a police officer wondering if i'm going home each night.

His back was to them. He was turning towards the K9 officer to his left.

And somebody has to be the voice of reason in here.

Dude, first of all, he died laying on his stomach facing away from any of the five police officers. He was not turning towards anyone.

Secondly, when they shot him he was not a legitimate threat. Police have a 25 foot rule if someone has a knife. If they are within 25 feet they are considered dangerous and they can shoot, but that should not apply if they already have weapons pointed at him. Is he going to cover that distance before they pump him full of 5.56? No.

Also, why throw a banger at him? It looked like he was getting ready to cooperate. Why throw the flash bang and escalate the situation? He didn't have a knife in his hands until they threw the bang and the dog ran at him.

Sorry, not a justified shoot.

Well, it is Albuquerque. They are still probably being overly cautious after the whole Walter White deal. Two federal agents were killed there just last fall by a roving gang of neo-Nazi meth dealers.
Or knowing they are being watched, they basically tell the government to suck it.
