RS: Tell me about writing “The Heart of Rock & Roll.” I’m a native Clevelander, so I’ve always loved that song.

HL: We’re from San Francisco, and we think it’s the greatest place in the world. We had heard that Cleveland was this great rock & roll town. I thought, “Cleveland? How can Cleveland be anything? What can they have in Cleveland that we don’t have in San Francisco?” Then we played a gig in Cleveland, I think at the Agora, around 1980. It was a great gig, and the crowd was amazing. We’re driving the next day, and I’m looking at the gray skyline. I sort of absent-mindedly say, “You know guys, the heart of rock & roll really is in Cleveland.” Then I went, “Oh my gosh, that’s a great idea for a song.”

The other guys said, “The heart of rock & roll is in Cleveland?” So then I rewrote it as “The heart of rock & roll is still beating.” But that was the original idea.

I didn't say anything bad about Mr Huey or his News.

Here, maybe this will help.

It's a mashup. Mashing up two songs that would never normally go together.
Not like mashed potatoes, which blends products. . I still like the original..IMO Actually, one modern day musician who could pull that off is Eddie Vetter from Pearl Jam.

Another HL&News classic. They had so much energy and professional stage traits, that few bands could duplicate their style.

HL is about as pure rock 'n roll as they come.
We saw them a few times and the best concert was when Huey came into the aisles. He saw my lovely blond wife adoring his presence and gave her a hug. She never forgets it. The band also covered The Boys are Back in Town by Styx. The piano solo in the bridge was so good. Look for that. You'll be impressed.

The Mamas & The Papas - Monday Monday

It's almost sacrilegious. You can't dilute (mashing) this band with another band. Just my opinion.

@stampedehero.....here's a song you can share with your bride (who, hopefully, is also your girlfriend) for Valentine's Day. Who doesn't love Sade music...

ABM: She was my bride, always my love and now the "old lady". Sade> I do. Did you ever listen to her band live?

My bride is still my "girlfriend"...and always will be. Nope, haven't had the pleasure to see Sade live. Love to!

A Great Pete Townsend song you will enjoy. I like to play it during the impeachment proceedings.

Ode to Mar Azul....

Obviously, this is Van's song. I enjoy Joe's rendition, as well. Whoa, that dude can sweat to the oldies!

Hey, what kind of car is that??

No idea, I can't even read what model the car is. My dad would have known. He used to point out all sorts of cars to me when I was younger. It is a shame to see such a classic old car rusting out in a field though.

Slug Bug! (remember that little travel game?)
