I would say the real monolithic entity is the collaboration of establishment Democrats and Republicans who engage in just enough fake fighting to ensure gridlock. As long as they can point the finger at each other, nothing will continue to get done which is precisely the point.
It's a big deal because the the right wing is very happy. As somebody who uses Twitter for breaking sports news….. music and movie updates and trying to get my daughter into college, can somebody give me a reader’s digest version of why this is such a big deal?
I don't get it either and to this day Ive never been on Twitter or FB.As somebody who uses Twitter for breaking sports news….. music and movie updates and trying to get my daughter into college, can somebody give me a reader’s digest version of why this is such a big deal?
When the My Pillow guy goes on Twitter and spews nonsense and lies, he get suspended or banned. When Trump would go on and do the same, banned. Twitter regulates - not even remotely close to just banning people with opposing views- but tweets that are hurtful, damaging, harassing, misinformation- and still can’t even come close to catching it all of course. But if a poster consistently does it he’s done. With Musk, and his incessant “free speech” obsession, and history of being a little …forgiving….of the right, and I think many expect him to open things up more than currently. The right is really happy with Musk all of a sudden (another billionaire who laughs at Magats, but I digress) mostly because they know they can get away with more shit under the free speech excuse.I don't get it either and to this day Ive never been on Twitter or FB.

It's not logical. Nobody knows what Elon is going to do. But if he does do what the right thinks... twitter will turn into a steaming pile and die.
Symbols are a funny thing. They don't have to be scary in and of themselves for their adherents to do terrible things in their name. By all accounts Jesus was a pretty chill guy.Elon Musk, the latest ‘symbol of hate’ lol. I’ll put him on the list with the scary pillow man.
Pretty much this. There is no big deal dude. Continue to use Twitter for whatever you use it for, ignore the hysteria, and you will never notice any difference. It’s just the latest thing for people to scream at each other about.
It doesn’t effect the individual. Not really. But if anyone has paid any attention to the country the last six years I think it’s safe to say that the hate and misinformation and conspiracies etc have had quite a negative impact. So the whole “just use Twitter who cares” is, predictably, short sighted.Pretty much this.
Twitter just banned the pillow guy today for trying to bypass his prior ban or something...It doesn’t effect the individual. Not really. Hard to understand why he would pay $44B for something so ‘meh who cares I just want an edit button’. There’s so much more to it. I don’t get acting like he just bought the Sacramento Bee. It’s Twitter.Twitter just banned the pillow guy today for trying to bypass his prior ban or something...
Again, nobody knows what changes will happen. It's all just hysterics right now.
Twitter was mostly owned by 8 people who didn't use Twitter. Now it'll be mostly owned by one person who does use it.
I doubt there will be much of a change other than the edit button and probably some more options to ignore certain content at a personal level.

Uh no I do know why. I was reasoning to Phats - ‘everything will probably stay the same but an edit button’. I literally said there’s so much more to it. I don’t think it’s a giant conspiracy. The opposite. It’s a blatant attempt to do so.You don’t know why a tech billionaire would try to acquire a tech company? Its really that hard to understand? It’s really just a giant conspiracy to inject racism and hate speech into the public discourse?
If even one person gets punched because some wack-job thinks Elon gave them the right to punch people, it's too much.Wars will be fought in the name of Elon for a thousand years. Crusades. Believers will be saved and infidels will burn for eternity.
Aren't there people out there claiming its OK to punch people who they've determined to be "Nazis"?If even one person gets punched because some wack-job thinks Elon gave them the right to punch people, it's too much.
Because the long time CEO, and his good friend, told him it needed to be privately owned rather than publicly owned.Hard to understand why he would pay $44B for something so ‘meh who cares I just want an edit button’. There’s so much more to it. I don’t get acting like he just bought the Sacramento Bee. It’s Twitter.
Punch a nazi…and let me define what nazi means. If even one person gets punched because some wack-job thinks Elon gave them the right to punch people, it's too much.
I posted nearly the same premise before reading your comment. My bad.Aren't there people out there claiming its OK to punch people who they've determined to be "Nazis"?
Also, anyone who thinks Elon can give anybody any rights at all is going to do stupid things regardless of whatever idiotic reason they adopt. I don't blame an idiot's claimed or perceived motivation for their idiocy; I blame the idiot.
