Yeah the paint becomes a clusterfuck in college basketball especially during the tourney. Being able to hit the 3 is huge come tourney time. Thats one thing I like about the pro game, is if you got skills as a post player you will have plenty of room to operate.

I think the NBA has shifted that way as well. Especially in the playoffs when the game slows down. It's all about the PG and the wings. You still want your bigs to be skilled, but once they put the ball on the floor, bad things happen to big guys. Unless you are elite like Dirk, Lebron, and Durant and can play out on the wing as well.

Olynyk is the next Dirk. Haven't you read this thread?

That's the big thing in college. Low post players don't have any room to operate. It's too easy for the guard to double and jump right back on their man.

Still think Kelly makes LMA expendable, Zags? Still can't get over that one.

And yeah, still think he's gonna get way over drafted.

Just throwing in my 2 cents here and please don't think I'm jabbin' you Mick.

It seems to me that what we saw from KO in the Wich State game is kind of what we'll see in the NBA. He was going up against a more athletic front line and it effected him, despite putting up decent #s, he didn't get the easy looks. KO's lack of 'explosion' in the paint will make it hard for him against NBA-level defenders.

He is smart though, good BBall IQ, and may eventually be an effective, crafty NBA big man without being the biggest, most athletic guy on the floor.

Certainly a risk/reward draft pick for me.

One may think that a 7'0" center fading away from the basket is a terrible shot, but with his balance, coordination, and shooting touch, he reminds me of a Dirk Nowitzki with his patented fadeaway.

On the high-end of the spectrum, Olynyk could have a ceiling of Hall of Famer Bill Walton. He is a dynamic scorer and a terrific passer. Walton was saddled by injuries throughout his career, but his peak was arguably as great as any other center in league history. Walton won a title in 1977 with the Portland Trail Blazers so Olynyk has a lot to live up to, but the physical and mental tools are certainly present.

On the low-end, Olynyk would be a rich man's Vlade Divac. Divac could shoot the ball and pass with the best of them. He was never a franchise player, but was a key cog on countless of Sacramento Kings teams' at the turn of the millennium that made deep runs into the postseason.

Good read

good read? my lord that was awful.

19/13/5/3 (Bill Walton in his best seasons)

If Kelly O comes remotely close to those numbers, I'll eat my shorts.

Laughable comparing him to Bill Walton, at his peak. Convenient how he left out the whole defensive side of things as well as how despite leading the Zags to the #1 ranking, they still lost in the tourney fairly early.

Kelly O didn't get the credit he deserved at the beginning of the year, but he is getting more than enough credit now. Same as Victor Oladipo at Indiana, who is probably on my short list of most overrated players to go along with Kelly and Zeller.

When you start hearing Jordan's name mentioned, yeah, I'd say he's getting overrated.

I think Dicky V is the only one has said anything about him being Jordan like. Its Dicky V. Thats all I gotta say about that.

heard his name brought up just tonight, and quite a few other times recently.

Announcers are always full of hyperbole. Especially Raftery.

No serious pundit would ever compare Oladipo to Jordan.

To me, he’s a combination of (Michael) Jordan and Dwyane Wade,” Hall of Famer Magic Johnson said

IMO, someone becomes overrated when they start to draw mentions like that, if it's made on a national stage, because it gets picked up on, and repeated. That's not to say he's going to get picked #1 because the GM thinks he's the next MJ

There's two types of comparisons. Comparing someone to be as good as the aforementioned player and comparing a player to style of play of another player. I'm almost certain Magic was speaking on the latter.

Michael Jordan's style of play is not something that can be used as a comparison all willy nilly.

Maybe so. But I'm sure there's lesser players with what might be considered a similar style.

You know, I've been hearing those comparisons all season long, and they've bugged the hell out of me. Dickie V is borderline senile, and I'm convinced he doesn't really keep track of the college game anymore, but for Magic to say that is just ill-informed on his part. I can see how someone hearing that gets the idea that he's overrated.

With that said, he's still not getting enough love from the mocks. This is a weak draft, and Oladipo is a sure thing. I understand the sentiment from the draft thread that he's Wes Matthews-esque, but that's more of his basement, and that's not a horrible basement. If I'm choosing between him and McLemore, I've got a hard decision to make. He used to be all defense, hustle and minimal offense, but he's taken his offensive game to the next level this season. I see the Wade comparisons in that sense. I was actually there, in St. Louis, when he went off as a freshman against Tulsa. They lost the game, but it was sort of a revelation at the time. He rose in the mocks from a projected second rounder to a lottery pick, just like Oladipo has done.

Also, it looks like Oladipo pretty much declared for the draft in his post-game conference. He kept referencing his teammates in the past tense and saying how good it was to have played with them. So now that it looks like he's gone, the question is... will Cody Zeller be smart and come back for another year? His stock's at an all-time low, and each of his brothers graduated from their schools, so it's not out of the question that he'll be back.

One big freaking crap shoot. That's what this draft will be, I want the Blazers to be part of it.

#12 and will be just as good as any other pick. I think it will be a crazy night. Who ever we get .........will sit and practice for year.
But there is some young raw talent out there, Which ones will improve the most will ultimately start later on.

The one thing that I don't understand in this year's draft is that most mocks have Trey Burke in the mid-first. That's a head scratcher. I know there are other areas that the Blazers need to address, but Lillard/Burke point guard combo would be deadly, especially if they can run both of them at the same time the way they've been doing with Maynor.

Wes wasn't even drafted coming out of college. Oladipo is a player of the year candidate and lottery pick. Just saying...
