olynyks off the dribble game was a strength in the film, they werent impressed with his jumping explosion

Come on! Dirk's first-step is crazy for a 7-footer.

I don't think his first step is what makes him so good. In fact it doesn't even register to me as a reason he's so good. He's herky-jerky and awkward and can score in so many ways. His first step looks good because defenders have to play him tight. He's just a your fucked either way kinda guy to defend. Dirk's shooting mechanics and elevation of his shot are about as pure as it gets.

Kid grew a foot from his Sophomore to Senior year in high school. He kept those guard skills.

Dirk, like LMA, has a high release, especially for a tall guy. Dirk is able to get many shots off that others would get blocked. I did not pay attention to Olynyk's release, but I don't remember it being high. Olynyk certainly has the footwork to make it at the next level.

He's 7 feet tall and skilled, there's always a place in the NBA for those kind of guys. I think what he's capable of in terms of being a journeyman or being something more is going to hinge on how well he can defend other bigs and if he's got enough agility to jump out and hedge on screens and recover to the paint.

He looks like he could be one helluva player on offense though, maybe not quite Dirk level (at the same age) but he's got a lot of tools.

I am not impressed with him at all. He reminds me too much of Adam Morrision. I don't think he is athletic enough to play in the league. At best, I see him as a #8, #9 guy on the bench.

Who are you again?

He might end up being a solid backup C. He can score the ball and shoot free throws. Second half of the first round might make sense. He just isn't dominant enough against lesser teams to warrant more than that. And his rebounding numbers are somewhat anemic.

Jay Triano is really close with Olynyk having coached him on the Canadian national team. I hope he has Olshey's ear a little bit during this draft. I'm sure Olshey won't need much convincing.

Well in that case, if he's around at 39 (or wherever MIN's pick is), you have my permission to take a flyer on him. ;)

If you want to watch two teams that hate each other, two coaches that hate each other and future NBA star. Turn on ESPN2 and watch the Zags take on the Gaels.

Always is a passionate bloodbath.

Guy is not gonna make it in the league... Not athletic, slow, horrible defense. Don't care about his PER in a shitty conference.

He's an underrated defender and he's dominated against top 25 teams out of conference as well.

Then again, I'd be bitter too if my schools most prestigious player is Eric Piatkowski.

You have no clue where I went to school. Thanks. It wasn't Nebraska.

Adam Morrison dominated top 25 teams too.

So did Michael Beasley.

And Chris Douglas Roberts.

So did Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Charles Barkley, Eric Piatkowski....

I watched the Gonzaga/St.Mary's game, and Olynyk looked great from the outside, but I was hoping to see him show more of a physical, inside presence. Just like the Illinois game, there was a play or two where he had to work back-to-the-basket, where he just looked unsure of himself and awkward.

There's definitely a market for a player with his size and shooting ability, but I've yet to really see him show anything of a post game against legitimate competition. He actually reminds me a lot of Brian Cook.

BTW - I forgot Drew Barham plays for the Zags now. I've known him since he was like 14 years old. It blew my mind when he wound up getting a Memphis scholarship after Coach Cal left, but the Zags? That's a level I never thought I'd see Drew playing on to be honest...
