MY Generation- And Proud Of It

Kids these days are so spoiled. You get one guy claiming he's the son of god, and he died for their sins and bam, they sin all over the place and get a pass. In my day we were stoned to death for adultery. Now they get stoned and commit adultery all willy nilly.

Yeah, it sucks. Getting stoned on a daily. That must be some good stuff!

Painful.

why are you defending pedophile priests lately?

I'm not. The point is that it's not just priests, but a lot if adults in general who should be trustworthy.

And what's the point in painting priests with the broad brush and ignoring an outright epidemic.

Do you do all the same with your kids? Spankings, no helmets, fishing, etc.?

My daughter and I rode bikes, hiked, fished, played sports (she lettered in fastpitch softball and volleyball in HS) and she was never inside. We had snowball fights and had skiing races in the winter.... She's a most wonderful woman and I think a lot had to do with her upbringing. And we never wore helmets.

the reason why it plays so well is that priests are supposedly morally superior and pure, etc

its like when a staunch anti gay republican gets busted blowing cocks in the shitter

So sounds like it's not our generations fault, but yours by being lazy parents. Your kid did those things, because you encouraged it and participated. Others didn't because of parenting.

A guy I know from high school had sex with a teacher there, nothing ever happened. She was the Business teacher, and it happened in her hotel room when they were at this FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) thing. She's super hot and married a fellow teacher at the school 2 years later. I always wonder if he knows she has a history of fucking her students..

If you went to the HS I think you did, I thought that there was a scandal there, and said teacher got canned

Not really In my day we had no cable, videos, computers, cell phones... Wanted something to do? Get your butt out and the door! I remember being thrown out of the house. Kids weren't supposed to be indoors. It was adventure and learning life.

So are 8 year olds buying their own cell phones? No. Are they buying their own cable? No. Computer? No. Parenting issue. I played the shit out of video games and watched a lot of tv. I also spent a TON of time outside. I'd get home, watch after school cartoons and such often. Then, my dad would get home from work, and we would go out and play catch, or go out and shoot around. Adventure and learning life. Not every kid lives in the damn country to go crawdadfishing. But again, you mention being thrown outdoors. Ahem. Parenting. So again, YOUR generation.

I got all sorts of stories to tell as well, and I'm not gonna whine about how much better life was way back when. I will say growing up on the south side of chicago, crawdad fishing was pretty limited.

It's egregious when a public school teacher commits rape and is defended by the union to the point they cannot even be fired. There's every bit as morally superior an element to anyone who teaches, I'm sure you agree. After all, they're passing up a chance at much bigger personal wealth, fame, achievement, etc., for the sake of filling young skulls full of mush.

Pics or it didn't happen.

Your generation was not the best. Get over it.

Worthless.

Post.

back in my day, the men were men! we used to go down to the gravel pit and play smear the queer, man id be sore when we got home, knees all skinned up and sweaty

Reading this thread, I see a distinct difference in generations about sex. There is now a generation who think only of negatives when they think of sex. My generation giggled nervously in the brief moments that sex was mentioned, wanting more sexual freedom.

I guess conservatives blame liberals for this school indoctrination, but we liberals blame conservatives. Maybe the real side to blame is the intelligence agencies, who installed thie anti-sex school curriculum as a motivational method to increase the general work ethic. As Freud said, work is the sublimation of sex.

Taking pride in your particular accident of birth beyond your control (your ethnicity, your birth-country, your generation...) always seems silly and sad to me.

Referring to an entire generation with pride seems to be taking a rather communistic view, as if they were all the same person rather than millions of unique individuals. Some good, some bad. Proud of Kennedy's assassination and the KKK lynchings of Americans committed by your generation? Proud of bombing civilians in Cambodia? The Love Canal? The Kent State murders? Watergate?

Wow, you didn't even let her sleep indoors? Intense.

Why didn't you ever wear helmets?

Oh, and the stories we could tell. ;)

Remember being chased down the train tracks in Eugene by that policeman? "Halt, or I'll shoot..." Good times. Or down at the creek in Rodgers Park in LO with Karen & Kim and some wine.... Today it'd be, "gee Suzy, wanna play video games inside on a beautiful sunny day?"

Well, I spent the summer after my junior year of high school hitch hiking around British Columbia. Slept outside every night. I miss it. I'd still rather be outside than in if possible.

That's some bad parenting right there. Outright asking for kidnapping, rape, and/or murder.

Hmmm....I'm thinking it was more like Karen and Kris. Themz were the daze, though. :pimp:

Explains a lot about you, BP. Explains a lot. :ghoti:

I will agree that bicycle helmets are extremely overrated.

One common denominator of successful bike programs around the world — from Paris to Barcelona to Guangzhou — is that almost no one wears a helmet, and there is no pressure to do so.

In the United States the notion that bike helmets promote health and safety by preventing head injuries is taken as pretty near God’s truth. Un-helmeted cyclists are regarded as irresponsible, like people who smoke. Cities are aggressive in helmet promotion.

But many European health experts have taken a very different view: Yes, there are studies that show that if you fall off a bicycle at a certain speed and hit your head, a helmet can reduce your risk of serious head injury. But such falls off bikes are rare — exceedingly so in mature urban cycling systems.

On the other hand, many researchers say, if you force or pressure people to wear helmets, you discourage them from riding bicycles. That means more obesity, heart disease and diabetes. And — Catch-22 — a result is fewer ordinary cyclists on the road, which makes it harder to develop a safe bicycling network. The safest biking cities are places like Amsterdam and Copenhagen, where middle-aged commuters are mainstay riders and the fraction of adults in helmets is minuscule.

“Pushing helmets really kills cycling and bike-sharing in particular because it promotes a sense of danger that just isn’t justified — in fact, cycling has many health benefits,” says Piet de Jong, a professor in the department of applied finance and actuarial studies at Macquarie University in Sydney. He studied the issue with mathematical modeling, and concludes that the benefits may outweigh the risks by 20 to 1.

He adds: “Statistically, if we wear helmets for cycling, maybe we should wear helmets when we climb ladders or get into a bath, because there are lots more injuries during those activities.” The European Cyclists’ Federation says that bicyclists in its domain have the same risk of serious injury as pedestrians per mile traveled.

Those European pussies don't wear helmets, and they ain't as fat.
