Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Btw, here is Chad's updated top-10 on his bigboard:

1. Irving
2. Williams
3. Kanter
4. Knight
5. Leonard
6. Walker
7. Vesely
8. Biyombo
9. Thompson
10. Valanciunas

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Damn, you know its a weak draft when people are projecting Kawhi Leonard at 5.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Kanter will bust, calling it now.

The bad thing about being such a weak draft and a few top notch underclassmen staying in school makes it that much harder to move up to grab your guy.

I love Brandon Knight, but not at the cost of a Top 5 pick.

Kawhi Leonard has been my guy for sometime now. But Top 5? No thanks.

A player who seems to be falling is Jimmer. He may or may not be PGOTF, but the kid can shoot and not only do we need shooters but we need a backup PG.

Two others I like are Markeifth Morris and Kenneth Faried. It's time to build our bench and like Brian said, the draft is the best way to do so.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

The Morris twins, Tobias Harris and even Jordan Williams who is a brute could be available where were picking. All of those guys could be solid role players.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

A sleeper guard that I really like Reggie Jackson.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

For as bad as this years draft is going to be, next years will be stacked.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

This draft is severely lacking in franchise top players, but I think has a number of solid role players in it, all the way to the second round. There's value to be had.

Jan Vasely is an interesting prospect. Very explosive at 6'11" 240 lbs. Compared to AK47 but I'm not sure how you can compare the two, Jan has the size of a center.

That video makes him look like a young KG. But his #s are seriously underwhelming. Averaging 9pts, 3rebs, and 0.8 blk in 27 mins in the Euroleague.

The putback slam (0:56) was very Greg Oden-esque.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

For as bad as this years draft is going to be, next years will be stacked.

Which is why I wouldn't mind seeing Cho trade his way toward some future picks in this draft.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

A player to keep an eye on - Jordan Williams.

Dropped a lot of weight since last season and is down to 245 lbs. He also measured 6'10.5". A low post scorer with a reliable mid-range jumper. I'd think he's certainly an upgrade from a Jeff Pendergraph/Dante Cunningham/Chris Johnson.

16.9 PPG
11.8 RPG
1.3 BPG
54 FG%

Only a sophomore as well, which is nice.

Also, if Jordan Hamilton is within striking distance (5 picks) or Alec Burks slips, go after them hard! Burcs reminds me a littleof B-Roy and I think Hamilton could be a legit scorer off the wing, either sg or sf, in this league.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Burks is going to be a stud and he doesn't even understand how good he could be. The game comes natural to him. We'd have to trade up if were targeting him.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

Can we start getting some draft coverage at the "O"? Or is that too much to ask?

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

With the #51 pick I wouldn't mind Cho taking a chance on Andrew Albicy (5'10" PG/France):

Waterbug point guard with tremendous speed … A one man defensive wrecking crew ... Teams in international competitions have to adapt their game plan to his defensive hounding of the ball … Great at stealing the ball from his man in the open court and has great anticipation intercepting passes in the passing lanes ... Adept at handling the ball with either the left or right hand … Great at running the team at the half court and on the open floor … Has improved tremendously in the last year in his decision making ... Good free throw shooter … Streaky from the 3 point line … Has developed a tear drop over the last year … Has played significant minutes in the French Pro A for team Paris-Levallois …

Lotto before Game 1 tonight.

Cavs have a chance of getting the top two picks this year because the Clips traded away their unprotected lotto pick to CLE to get rid of Baron. (So do the Jazz, actually, because they got NJ's unprotected pick in the Deron deal, in addition to their own lotto pick, but their chances are lower than CLE's).

It's actually at halftime.

I'd like to see the Kings win the lottery.

They need a pg the most and improves the teams opportunity to stay in Sacramento long-term.

Irving, a bounce back year 3 Tyreke Evans, and Cousins is a nice core and would be a pretty fun team to watch play and develop.

EDIT: Nevermind. Yuyuza1 was right. 5:30 pm ET on ESPN.

Ford thinks good workouts might push Marshon Brooks into the lottery. He's been hyping Brooks up as the next Kobe, but I think Jamal Crawford is a better comparison.

Either way, he should be someone we need to look at.

Didn't we draft a left-handed version of this guy last year?

Games definitely sound similar.

Another fast riser in this draft - Davis Bertans, a 6'10" SF with range:

One of the most intriguing players for the World team at the 2011 Nike Hoop Summit was Latvian small forward Davis Bertans, who at 6'10”, impressed immediately with his smooth stroke from the perimeter. He's a pure shooter with deep range and confidence who showed the ability to knock down shots running off screens or spotting up, and also showed some flashes creating off the dribble.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

The 'rumors' (if you can call them that - I think whispers is more apt) at least around local media, is that PA is going to be ultra-aggressive in this draft to get a difference maker. Could be interesting given the fact that there aren't many to start w/ in this draft.

I don't think it's entirely out of the realm of possibilities though that if they have someone they like start to fall, we could see $ and this year's & next year's pick sent for a mid-late lotto pick to get him. Assuming we're at least as competitive next year as we were this year, that'd be us trading a mid-20's pick in a loaded year for an early-teens pick in a very weak year. Given the added compensation of cash and our picks this year, and assuming we got a guy we really wanted (I still keep coming back to Brandon Knight, but I wouldn't be shocked if Bismack were a target as well), seems like that type of a deal would be a good swap for us and would seem to make sense for at least a few teams that don't necessarily NEED immediate help from a rookie (the Clippers stand out to me as a good example of this type of team).

Also wouldn't be surprised to see PA open up his wallet in a big way at this draft. I expect that there will be at least a few teams that want absolutely nothing to do with this draft, and given how many NBA teams are hemorrhaging money, $3 Mil could be worth it for a late-teens/early-20s type pick if there's a guy there worth buying (Faried? One of the Morrises? PG? Shooter?...)

I'd like to see the Kings win the lottery.

I hope Minny wins it just to see what Kahn will do with yet another PG.

Sorta, ya. But from the videos I've seen of Brooks, he looks far more fluid, and has a much more versatile offensive arsenal than Babbitt.

Re: NBA Draft Thread Vol. 2

The only real difference maker in this draft for a team like Portland is Kyrie Irving.

Trading into the top-2 is a pipedream.

I think he's referring to Elliot Williams.
