NBA to have ads on unis by 17-18 season.....

Have to think the NBA would lose money on jersey sales if they pushed adds that were as egregious as they look in that picture of Melo. I know I wouldn't buy a jersey where the advertisement catches your eye before say the team logo.

Not sure I mind the smaller adds, will have to see the final product. Ultimately for me if boils down to not detracting from the teams branding.

I would think only the players uniforms will have the adds.

An "add" would be adding something like a cape to a jersey.

An "ad" is short for advertisement.

Just wanted to be sure we're all on the same page but to be honest I think the cape idea would be much cooler than advertisements.

So I'm guessing Adidas could buy ad space on a Nike jersey?

In an interview silver made it almost sound like not all jerseys will necessarily have ads on them, rather it's up to the teams should they want to adopt a corporate sponsor(which many, or all, already do). I think that's pretty much a given, but it's nice that the NBA isn't shoving it down teams throats.

Which means one of these logos will likely be on blazer uniforms that season

Hopefully PA decides to keep the jerseys clean. I wouldn't mind Moda on the jerseys because it's the arena name so it makes sense and matches the color scheme. I just don't want something random that clashes color wise (Like a Subway logo or some shit like that)

The Toyota logo wouldn't be too bad if it didn't have the word underneath.

Agreed

What about McDonalds? (Shudder)
Ouch you're right. I hope not... same with the Wells Fargo logo, both would clash with our color schemes.

Surely they will go with whoever pays them the most though right? I think Moda and Toyota make the most sense and might be the lost likely.

This is still, and always will be, a terrible idea..... unless the swag for sale omits the ads... then Im not sure how I feel, but until they make it clear otherwise... this is the most terrible Idea the NBA has ever had.....
I will never spend another cent on NBA swag if they do this.

I think a year after they start doing it, folks will forget about the change just like when the Rose Garden became the Moda Center....fans were freakin' out when Moda renamed the stadium and I remember folks posting they'd never buy tickets to home games when the change happened...that fizzled pretty quickly. Hang in there dude! I don't think you can buy any Blazer swag for a penny anyway!

You know it wouldn't be all that difficult to stage a boycott nationwide..

Kind of a different situation though. The fans don't have the ability to purchase swag about the Rose Garden/Moda, like they do the Blazers. And when your looking to buy an official jersey, the replica of the player, they might very well sell them to us the way they have the players wear them. If this is the case, I'm with HailBlazers, we boycott this crap.

Now if they go NASCAR on us....I'll be furious!

The probable path they will follow. Remember, they are doing it for money in the first place.

Never call it the Moda Center again.

...and not just on jerseys:

This is the team whose strip looks like this:

What a stupid idea...bunch of greedy rich people wanting more money...before we know it the courts themselves will be covered in ads....what an insult to the game of basketball

I assume that Denny is going to negotiate with the Blazers for some RipCityTwo ad space on the Blazers' uniforms?

I hope they use UncleCliffy'sHerbalShop for one if they do.

And here it is :
i

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/1...s-sell-first-nba-jersey-advertisement-stubhub

They got 3yrs, 15 mil for that ad.

NBA teams will keep half of the money generated from selling sponsorships on jerseys with the individual team that does the deal keeping half and the rest going to a revenue-sharing pool. The other half will be split with the players and will contribute to a rising salary cap.

Jerseys that will be available at retail nationally will not have the corporate sponsor logo on them, but O'Neil said the Sixers will have jerseys at their team locations with a StubHub logo.

Thought I read somewhere that "swag" will not have the ads on them
