Now i want to think this is a trade to set up another like they sending out 1 to get 2 players etc but i am not sure this deal even get's PDX under the tax or am i wrong ?

So long Skal. Seems like a good guy going to a team with a lot of young talent.

Penny pinching is the theme for the Blazers. I am not sure they can even overtake Memphis for the 8th spot. If they did, its a 4 game sweep for the Lakers.

I realize the whining going on is just the norm for Blazer fans but let's be REAL for just a moment the Blazers are going to need Memphis and / OR the Spurs to implode to even have a chance at a 8 or 7th seed. Also if Hassan is traded there is a better then even chance that means the Blazers are throwing in the towel for this season possibly pissing off Dame so as much as NeO has made some bad decisions in the past but atm he is kind of between a rock and a hard place.

I think a WIN for a Whiteside trade would be a solid player in return and a mid to late 1st round pick but i do not think Whiteside can be turned into much more atm but we shall see still 90 min til the deadline as i am writing this up.

You really should look at the Blazers' post All-Star schedule. It's pretty soft.

Wait to see who we’re signing to replace Skal.

Skal was going to be RFA next season. Sure looks like Seattle is imposing some financial discipline on Olshey's free-spending ways
I think that's basically all it is. They were willing to go all-in if they were winning. Not so much for the bottom of the playoffs.

So losing Skal is the reason we won't make the 8th spot? I was thinking getting Nurkic and Collins back would be more impactful, especially since Skal hasn't been playing lately and we have more than held our own.

Being reported by Haynes that Portland is getting 2m for Skal --- whatever still a little over an hour to go then i will decide if this deal was good , bad or whatever - LOL

Ppl here want that so bad. Yay let’s make the 8th to get slaughtered like that year we traded for Nurkic and got killed by the warriors

Trading just skal doesn't make any sense, the Blazers stil dont go under the tax.

Skal suffered an articular cartilage lesion, which is what started Oden's exit from the NBA. I certainly hope that Skal's injury isn't as significant, but cutting his salary, and the tax on it, for a guy who probably can't play the rest of the season is a perfectly logical move.

They get closer though so it's clearly to save money. Now if they do another save money move they maybe get under the tax.
They could trade hezonja and Swanigan for nothing and they would stil be over the Tax. They have to trade either Whiteside or Ariza to get under the tax.

I really, really like Skal. I thought he had a ways to go, but he had potential no doubt, he also has an awesome life story and I cheered for his success even when he was a King. He is doubtful to play much this year though, and I think if the goal is to save money it makes sense from that perspective.

Getting Gabriel and Swanny back kind of made Skal expendable but i will admit i kind of liked Skal -- not sure why but always thought in the right situation would become a solid player but looks like i was wrong

Skal was never going to see the court once Nurk and Collins return - and this deal feeds the idea that both are close.

Plus he was a restricted free agent in the off season and like you said with Nurkic and Collins coming back he was going to have limited opportunity. I liked Skal, but best case scenario is as a mediocre back up. Those sort of players are always available.

So we traded Skal and 1.9M for 2M. Moving Skal's 2.4M saves the Blazers ~5 million.
