I still think the team just thinks we have enough young players to continue to play and evaluate and want to do so, in order to determine our true needs. We have like 10-11 guys in year one or two. I just think the team feels making moves right now is not in the best interests until they have more time to evaluate.

Thunder acquired the youngster Gordon Hayward to continue their rebuild.....

Not even sure its a rebuild anymore as much as its positioning themselves to be a contender. Going all in. They are now in first in the west. Its tight though.

Pistons are very active this year.

Just two years ago people here were crapping on Cronin for making a deal too soon and not waiting until right before the trade deadline. When did the narrative change he waited too long?

Let's not contradict ourselves.

a few people were crapping on him; not everybody; not most

that team was going nowhere and desperately needed changes. The current team is going nowhere as well. it's arguable if it's a better nowhere because of the lottery. But apparently there's enough newness to the current route to make people ambivalent....or maybe just bored

Jerami seems like a pretty good fit for this club. That being said Dallas only has one tradeable FRP in 2027 because they could owe a FRP in this draft but the protections on that allow it to roll into the next draft which makes 2024-2026 unavailable, they also owe Brooklyn their 2029 pick unprotected which makes 2027-2029 unavailable. I don't think an unrestricted 2027 pick should get the job done for Jerami. The roster does have Lively and OMP but I doubt they'd give up Lively and I don't like OMP, 2027 FRP and lets say Hardaway for Jerami. I think that's the best we'd get from Dallas.

Maybe the Kings would give up their 2028 and 2030 FRPs (only two that they could trade together) along with Monk's expiring contract, Lyles and Duarte for Jerami if they are as motivated as has been reported.

That kings trace would be decent. I like Lyles.

Brogdon will probably be moved by the trade deadline next year. Unless (long shot) the team suddenly levels up and they want to roll with what they have.

Some trades make sense, and then there are others...

Why would the seemingly-tanking Raptors give up a first for Olynyk?

Or it's a sign this draft really fucking sucks and it's just like having a second round pick in any other year. I dunno.

This is like watching paint dry. When does the deadline end? Isn’t it usually noon?

that can't be true because there's no way that Portland would have the timing and bad luck to own two first round picks in a terrible draft

It is noon and you're right it has been for a while now. I do remember back in the day when it was midnight eastern.

KP held on way too long. All he got was seconds. This is my fear if we hold on to Malcolm.
based on the deals today, that looks like what was being offered for malcolm

To be complete, people were crapping on Cronin for making a bad deal several days before the deadline. If he had actually extracted decent value for Powell, nobody would have hated an eye at the timeline.

As for this year, like @blazerkor says, if he actually does make the trades this roster clearly needs, nobody will care how close to the deadline we were. The consternation is simply over the reporting that the Blazers are unlikely to move guys like Brogdon and Grant (and Ant). If that reporting turns out to be true, if no deal is made this morning, fans will absolutely have a right to be annoyed.

This is why I have issue with the attempt to label him slow to make moves. If doing a deal fast, or at all, is a priority, then I believe you have to be ok lowering your standards on quality. Subsequently, if getting the highest quality deal is important, people need to be ok with a deal not happening quickly and/or possibly at all.

I fall in the middle. Don't get fleeced, but don't demand a Pritch-slap. Find a good deal that makes sense and take the win.
