Notice NBPA explores next step toward potentially boycotting games

I realize this is a joke to you, but you're missing the point. This isn't about Trump v Biden. This is a massive moment in NBA history that you decided is conveniently off topic.

It's not a joke to me. There is a thread in the main section of the forum that you created discussing this and there is this thread in here.

If I cut the back of my hand and I put a bandaid on the front of my hand, does it stop the bleeding?
Absolutely ridiculous comparison. How about we look at it this way. You actually had a band aid to put on. Some have never had the chance to put a band aid on. If you are too stupid to put it on the cut that is on you but if you have never even been given the band aid in the first place who's fault is that?
Also it seems you also think you don't have to stop the bleeding and clean the cut before putting a band aid on? That is what we call first aid training. We could compare this to Education and training for officers and first responders. Now are you getting it?
Certain people are treated differently just because they are a certain color or race or gender or religion. Understanding that this is not acceptable in this country is and has been a long road. Maybe you are one step closer today than you were yesterday. Lets hope so.

And it's extremely naive to think that you're ever going to stop the bleeding. It would require a complete tear down and rebuild of law enforcement across the country on all levels. And despite what you think, police brutality and abuse of power is not limited to minorities. The job attracts shitty people. The job will always attract shitty people. And to prevent that, you would need sweeping police reform at a federal level, and to do that you would need city and state officials to sign off on adhering to that reform. There are nearly a million cops in the United States. So even if you got rid of 80% of the bad apples, there's still gonna be enough Johnnie Laws in small bumpkin town USA that will shoot a person of color on camera. Do you understand the magnitude of the problem? And not just the actual problem, but the perception of the problem. You only need 1 cop a day to make a horrible mistake for people to continue to think there's a problem. 365 cops a year. Out of a million. You could completely reform law enforcement, get rid of 99% of the bad apples and you'd still have 100,000 bad cops. Think about that.

i dont get it.... they are boycotting a GAME that they get paid millions for because the police shot someone who is a violent offender and was reaching into his car after the cops told him to stop and tried using a taser which didnt work.

help me understand this, because it doesnt make sense for them to boycott. at all. boycotting games only hurts the NBA, and everything associated with it, even more.

They fucking shot him 7 times in the back in front of his 3 children....fuck that...cops are supposed to protect the peace...not assasinate citizens ...there's no reasonable doubt bullshit in this case...it's called police brutality

I saw a Video of a 17 year old kid with a Machine gun and police told him he can "deal" with the protestors, wtf

They fucking shot him 7 times in front of his 3 children....fuck that
1, they fired twice and it did nothing, so they fired to get him to stop reaching for something.
2, the cops arent at fault for this happening in front of children. do not blame them for this.
3, if you had a violent offender wrestle you down, you pulled out a taser and it didnt work, they got up, and went to their drivers door to reach for something, what are you going to do? stand there and just let him do whatever he wants? come on now.
4, he didnt die.

I absolutely blame them for this...how can you not blame them for this is beyond me...you can wing somebody in the legs and immobilize them...shooting him in the back is against all police protocol

can you answer my question?

This has absolutely got to be the most IGNORANT thing i have ever read. WTF are you even talking about? The Police and the First Responders are some of the very best people this country has to offer. You simply do not make the decision to be a police officer or first responder if you are a "Shitty Person".
I know a number of police officers, Firemen, And EMT's they are all absolutely awesome people. Get your fucking head outta your ass!
You simply cannot make that kind of assessment from the actions of a very few that have done some bad things.

And to prevent that, you would need sweeping police reform at a federal level, and to do that you would need city and state officials to sign off on adhering to that reform.

And this is exactly the kind of thing BLM and those who support it are working for. The police forces hire people and give them 2 months training before they are on the streets. You cannot even begin to do my trade with 2 months training. Nobody in their right mind would allow someone with 2 months training do what i have been doing for decades. Why on earth would we allow men and women with 2 months training to carry a gun and police individuals in any city in this country.

I'm done here. Obviously with statements like you have just made you just are trolling this conversation or are absolutely beyond the realm of understanding the problem at hand here.

Oh climb down off your fucking ivory tower. I never said a fucking thing about firemen or EMTs. What a bullshit post.

I said the law enforcement attracts shitty people. I didn't say that all law enforcement are shitty people. I said the job attracts shitty people. There are shitty people who do the job. Period. Otherwise we wouldn't be having the problems that we're having right now. Are you seriously playing both sides of the fence right now?

I can't even fathom how the fuck you pulled in firemen and EMTs into this. Are you high?

It should be obvious that law enforcement attracts shitty people who desire power and control over others. As you said, of course they aren't all shitty people, but enough are that it's a gigantic fucking problem.

I don't even understand his reply to mine. What a ridiculous overreaction from someone who is saying we need police reform.

When does the cop get to prevent his own safety from being compromised?

I'm at a stopping point on this anymore. They told him to stop. He continued to walk around his car and open the door. How can a cop not feel threatened and just ASSUME the person not following the orders is NOT going for a weapon? Are they supposed to wait until he draws a weapon and fire first?

Yes there are bad cops. But dammit cops need to be able to defend themselves too and if someone is not being cooperative, then they are a threat. When they then go into a car, its a serious threat.

We are going WAAAYYY overboard with this.

IF YOU DON'T WANT TO GET SHOT JUST OBEY THEIR FUCKING ORDERS!!!!!!!! DON'T ACT LIKE A THREAT!!!!!!!!!
I do agree with a lot of this. But you are kind of missing the hidden problem here. Too many Black people have followed the orders and still got shot the death.
HANDS UP Don't Shoot! is very real.
There is a deep seated problem with trust. It's not always easy to overcome. Now another thing. RUNNING AWAY is not A THREAT!
How many Black People have been shot in the back because they were "Not Complying". How many more must beg to be let to breathe?

But its not. Yes it does attract those types, but until I decided I couldn't be a cop because of my likeness of marijuana, I was going to be a cop. Was part of the Oregon state troopers explorers program.

There ARE good cops that want to do good that are being dismissed, forgotten about and categorized in all of this.

And the argument if a good cop doesnt turn in a bad cop then he is also a bad cop, But how come that is not reversed on rioters? IF a protestor sees a someone battering an innocent and doesnt do anything, they are not condemned.

Just another doublestandard by those who think they know whats best for all of us

*hint* Anarchy will not be better than what we have now. Mark my words.

I would say if you're getting paid to protect people there is a higher expectation then someone who is a rioter.

Jesus christ..... you guys are fucking killing me with your inability to grasp a simple concept.

NOBODY IS SAYING THAT ALL COPS ARE SHITTY PEOPLE.

WE ARE SAYING THAT THE JOB ATTRACTS SHITTY PEOPLE.

HOW ELSE DO YOU WANT ME TO WRITE THIS SO THAT IT GETS INTO YOUR BRAIN?

Everyone please calm down. Everyone is not going to agree and that is okay. It doesn't diminish your POV of everyone doesn't agree with you.

How is it possible that, with a 6 months training, or in many cases even shorter, you can become a police officer? In all normal countrys you need at least 3 years education

I think the issue is less so with the police themselves and more so the system surrounding them. Bad laws, bad procedures for dealing with people, not enough training, bad DA's, judges, and the justice system. It needs reform, they need accountability, they need to know if you 'speak out' about a bad cop you won't be fired. The police are also a part of the problem especially the police union protecting their members at all costs, and when they do get fired sending them to another town to continue bad policing.
In a situation like this, of course, he didn't deserve to get shot (once let alone seven times), but with all that had gone on previous to it, it takes a lot of training to have restraint in that situation, and our cops are woefully undertrained and don't have systems of accountability above them. There are ways this ends without shots fired, Blake made some stupid decisions, but cops should be equipped to handle situations better than they commonly do.

This guy summed it up pretty well imo.

But then doesnt that solidify my point? IF there is distrust why on earth would someone defy the officer' orders and give them an opportunity? Id be on my knees hands behind my head. Ill deal with the bias later, but i'm not going to defy them in the moment ESPECIALLY if I don't trust them.

Running away to where though? These cops didnt shoot when he walked away. They shot after he opened the door and either tried to get in or tried to grab something. At tat point the cops safety was compromised and they shot. If they had shot him while he was rounding the front of the car, its a different scenario.

can you answer my question?
I did answer your question....you don't need to shoot a man in the back 7 times to immobilize him...you can shoot him once in the leg for one thing...nobody shoots somebody in the back that many times in self defense

I would say if you're getting paid to protect people there is a higher expectation then someone who is a rioter.

Nope. Not buying it. Its a matter of doing the right thing. Period. And there is a huge double standard. Pay doesn't determine the amount of energy someone should put into doing the right thing. If anything its more likely Money deters people from doing the right thing. So protesters screaming for equality and justice are just as at fault for letting their brethren harm innocent people as cops are responsible for other cops doing bad things.

You want equality, then lets be equally fair. Until then its just a joke. A horrible joke.
