Notice Nearly 30 years old, the Moda Center is the oldest NBA arena to not have undergone major renovation (1 Viewer)

I have only been to fiserv 2023, united 2023, oracle 2008 so not much to compare but i don't get the impression moda is dated. I'm curious what others who have been to other arenas feel about moda in comparison

I got yelled at by the HVAC guy for saying the Moda Center stinks.

New seats, a new Jumbotron, and updated tech in the concourse would be a start.

I’m sure a lot of the stuff will be under the hood.

I was still an apprentice when we built it.

So the lease is up in about 6 years, and some fans are good with sucking for another 6 years?
That seems a bit risky to me.

They renovated the practice facility and put a new roof on Moda last season. This season they’ve upgraded the digital broadcast system I’ve heard or something along that effect but the new roof is what I’d consider a major renovation and buying a G league franchise was another. I don’t see cheap around ownership like some folks seem to

We don't have a choice. We're almost certainly going to suck for at least 4 to 6 more years.

Maybe we need to define "suck". For some, being "average" sucks, but that is not what I am talking about. I think this team could be good enough for fans to actually want to go to the games.

The Blazers do have a choice right now not to suck for the next 4 years. They could keep the exact same team they have now for at least 2 years and be competitive. Not a contender (few teams are) but still a team that does not suck.

This lineup is not that bad. It has some depth and it will only get better as the youngsters grow.

Scoot, Sharpe, Deni, Grant, Ayton
Ant, Thybulle, Camara, Williams, Reath,
Clingan, Walker, Banton, Rupert, Murray

Now I understand why some want to suck this year and that philosophy has merit, but my point is the Blazer management does have a choice........tank intentionally, or keep everyone and be competitive.

Grant is a huge factor in that decision. He provides a huge need for that starting lineup. A long wing who can score.
If they dump his salary for future picks, then yeah we will suck. But they do have a choice.

Right now, I consider suck to be a play-in contender. A bubble team.

If we keep Ant and Grant for four more years that will REALLY suck, IMO.

If we trade them both for draft capital now, draft well, and get a legit coach we will probably be as good as the first team's ceiling at about the same time (probably about 4 years) but the second scenario will still be years from their ceiling and the first scenario will be trying to decide if they should tear it back down again, or keep trying to make the play-in.

And with the first scenario we won't have a realistic chance at winning a championship. In the second scenario we have a much better chance. Even if it takes a bit longer to get back into the playoffs.

Sure if we draft well, and don't miss, and those they draft don't get a major injury, and no one demands a trade...... then all is good. But most lottery teams do have a few misses. The problem I was addressing with my original post was that if they do what you want them to do, and that is to keep sucking until they get a "star", even if it takes another 6 years, this franchise could go bye-bye when that lease is up...if no one is supporting the team

We've already had 2 chances in the lotto. It takes about chances mid to high lotto picks to get an all star. We'd have to be INCREDIBLY bad at drafting to miss out on a star by year 8 of the tank. But honestly, I think if just getting another 2 or 3 players the caliber of Sharpe and Scoot we'd be far better off than keeping Ant and Grant.

Of course, that is just my opinion. But I'd be far more likely to go to a game to watch a team full of Scoots and Sharpes (obviously not all as guards) than a team that relies heavily on Ant and Grant.

We have had 3 chances in the lotto and I am happy with all 3. And all 3 will play. I am good with 1 more. But no more than that.

You're right. I forgot about this year. I'm pretty happy with all of them as well.

I would plan on 2 or 3 more lotto trips, unless we get a superstar.

I agree with 2 or 3 more lotto trips. There are 14 lotto spots. To not be in the lotto Portland has to make the playoffs. I am sure most here agree Portland is three years away from the playoffs. Get number one in the next draft but hope for top three. Have Ant/Grant moved after the next draft at minimum, hopefully much sooner. The draft after most likely be in the 5-10 pick range and the draft after that 11-14, fighting for play in at minimum. It is a realistic progression.Draft the right players and Portland is back in playoff position. SIMPLE!

Easily one of the best taken care of in the league! Bunch of newer ones that are very run down.

Don’t the Wizards need a new arena more than anyone?

I’ve been to the Forum, Staples, Wizards Stadium, and of course our stadium.

"What would you do different?"
"Hmmmm ??"
If putting the pressure of NBA management back onto Blazer fans doesn't work... follow it up with:
-throw the city of Portland under the bus
-gaslight the state of Oregon
-blame Olshey
-blame Lillard
-blame the new CBA
-blame the other teams for getting better
-we can blame Scott Brooks now
-nobody wants to be head coach here
*hot new take -blame OKC for making rebuilds look easy

I’ve been to all of them except for Chase and newest Bucks home and while Little Caesars (Detroit) is the nicest, Moda is my favorite.

I know I'm going to regret this but, what does the bolded mean? BTW, my reply is not at you personally, but at this idea...

Do this mean every fan that goes to games or pays for home viewership?
Does not complaining here....repeatedly....mean that a fan is "Ok", with sucking? Please don't tell me that complaining here has any effect on the teams decision making. Again, not singling you out, I am genuinely confused at this.

Really the team will not suck for the next 6 years. Yes next year will be a tank job but my bet is they are in the playoffs the year after that and close to contending in 3-4 years.
