Good lord, even when it used to be if you finished with worse record you won the lottery and to see how productive that was for Wolves as an example, take a look at all great picks they had, along with several gm's/ownership & coaches. Now you are not guaranteed that #1 pick. Shit they had Garnett & Ray Allen back to back but traded Allen on Draft knight. Check above for the wolves draft history.

I certainly hope the in-season Tourney floor scheme is changed. I literally could not see the ball on TV. The red court they used camouflaged the burnt orange basketball. Combined with Root Sports low res broadcast, every ball fake and pump fake had me cringing ..
... who has the basketball?

Prostitution isn't legal in Las Vegas, lol.

The biggest gambling market in the state has been lost to Ilani. If you were to offer a way for the tribes to team up as one entity to operate a casino in the Portland core I bet they would work together and jump on it. There has to be some sort of big vision plan for that area to work. Right now all the City of Portland wants to do is offer big developers sweet deals to build giant apartment buildings with no parking and then build more bike lanes.

They decriminalize drugs but are so worried about gambling in the Portland area lol

I certainly brought that up but he was adamant that the tribes would never work together like that. I was shocked actually.

and how does that have anything to do with the topic of this thread?

Oh god your so bias lol
Brother I’ve been to every arena in the league multiple times for over 20 years. The new arenas are all nice…. Older arenas are beat up and run down. Of the new arenas, the Moda is easily the best maintained. But you know that right, because you’ve been to all of them as well right?
You just come on here to stir shit up son?

I am sorry, but this is such a weak ass argument. Most of your other points have at least some validity, but this one continues to be ridiculous.

You might not like Grant or Ant and that is fine, but to think that the growth of Scoot or Shae has somehow been stunted by either of them is crazy. And they won't be standing in Clingan's way either.
Countless times have been proven they don’t, but that doesn’t stop him from making those ridiculous comments over and over. It is what it is.

1. It's you're.

2. It's biased.

3. That is true. The Moda has been very well maintained since it was built.
He was referring to bias tape, used in sewing, obviously. So the error, which was likely autocorrected, was in so. Oh god, your sew bias!

Who said anyone is worried about it? We offer gambling in just about every bar, tavern, and deli in the state.

so what’s the problem then? That one Native American tribe was going to pay for a new stadium in exchange for a casino in the city and they said no

Big bro all I said is of course your going to say that bc your bias

They wanted the spot where the giant US Post Office facility was for the stadium. That would have been the worst spot for a stadium. Access and parking would have sucked.

Yeah, the Blazers can't count on a lot of things....like a top 2 pick.
Larue Martin, Sam Bowie, Greg Oden.

Walton was an exception but we also got lucky because the ABA disbanded one year later giving us Luke. (and Moses but that is an entirely different discussion)

Dame and Clyde were not top picks.
Right. That's why you can't just try it a few times and be good with it. We need to be in the lotto for 5 years to have a good chance at getting guys like that.

You have a far higher chance of hitting higher in the draft than lower. 3 years with top 3 picks and you have an incredibly good shot of drafting an All Star.

FTFY.

Dude your takes are already pure shit, don't undermine them even more by not knowing English... on top of everything else.

Edit: Oh and @THE HCP isn't biased because he works for an entity owned by the team. The dude is educated because he goes to every fucking arena in the league every fucking year. Just stick to your baseless negativity and stay out of words you don't understand.

Did listing our picks for the last 2 decades prove that we should keep tanking until we get it right? My point was you can't count on anything.

But yes I believe that 4 years of intentionally tanking is enough. By then you should have enough young talent to build on....if not then it is time to try to win with what you have and hopefully get lucky with adding someone else.

When was the last time we added an All-Star or top 10 caliber player without drafting them? Was it Buck Williams? And Maurice Lucas before that?

And we had to give up our number two pick to get Buck Williams (which means we'll have to draft number two to repeat that). And we only got Morris Lucas because of the competing league folding (so that'll never happen again).

We don't add players like that unless we draft them here in Portland. When we traded Dame we condemned ourselves to indefinite mediocrity until we get incredibly lucky or incredibly smart in a lot of drafts. We were incredibly lucky to get Dame. And we were dumb to stop acquiring talent once we got him. We were dumber to let All Star talent leave when we let Aldridge leave.

It took us a long freaking time to get that lucky.

Our quickest way back to relevancy is to tank hard for a few more years. Unless we draft the next Larry Bird or Magic Johnson in the next one or two years.

We got incredibly lucky to get Dame where we got him. We can absolutely not count on getting players like Dame or Clyde where we got them.

That was just terrible ownership and management. I actually think we have a pretty good draft team.

Excellent point. However I don't dislike them. They just aren't who I'd build a new team around.

Can you answer the question?

I don't think anyone is saying we need to build the team around them. I was saying that the ones we want to build around, (Scoot and Sharpe) are not being hindered by those two players. And for the record, I am ok with trading either for a talented young forward.

What question of yours are you referring to?
Was it "When was the last time we added an All-Star or top 10 caliber player without drafting them"

I was not suggesting adding an all-star, just a player who puts them over the top. Adding an old Scottie Pippen is a good example. But the past does not matter. As you alluded to in another post, we have a team of evaluators who are different than what we had in the past. We will see how they did by bringing Deni over. Maybe they can find someone else later on.

If you're keeping them on the team you're building the team around them. Regardless of if it's focused on them or not. If you're bringing in young players those two are going to be two of the best players.

The question was related to the post I responded to. Did any of those guys listed have to play behind a middling vet, or were they given the reins?

And yes, obviously the past matters. Regardless of who we have in the front office we can't expect to pull All Stars unless we draft them. And if we don't even know that we have all stars it doesn't matter who we pull. We'll barely make the playoffs at best.

In order to get Deni we had to trade draft picks. We need to get our stars first and then build around them. That's the only way this works. We've seen that time and time again here in Portland, nothing else gives us the talent we need.

We don't even know what we have yet in Scoot and Sharpe. We have guys in the way, muddying the water, so we can't tell.

Not that it makes any difference because both Scoot and Shae got lots of minutes last year when healthy, which we have explained to you about 1000 times, but yeah some of those guys did start out playing behind someone

Scoot started more than half his games.

Jokic: started 55 of his first 80 games
Haliburton started 20 of his first 55 games
Booker 51 of 76
Giannis 23 of 77

SGA was the exception. A guy who idiotically has been traded twice.

As for this statement: "If you're keeping them on the team you're building the team around them. Regardless of if it's focused on them or not." ......... Let's just say I disagree and leave it at that.

So which will be done first?

Major renovation of the Moda?

Or major renovation of the team?
