Neil Olshey says Trail Blazers probably done with offseason moves (IN 2014!)

The Blazers are now considered a top team in the league. Before Neil came on board we just weren't. He deserves some credit for making steps each season to improve and he also trusts his coach and seems to include him in the decision making process. That's pretty rare these days. He very well may make another trade if not before the season starts or at the deadline. What I love about his process is he does not want to break up the starting lineup and neither do I.

You really think they will go to the finals next year?

The improvement strategy is now obvious. We're looking to improve this next year from within rather from without. Kaman and Blake are low beta players who won't win a ton of games for you, but also won't kill you with mistakes.

For us to win more games, our existing players will have to step up. They certainly have the talent, let's see if they have the desire.

The team improved by how many wins in one season, before winning a first round playoff series for the first time in how many years?

Nope. Olshey hasn't done anything to impress me either.

So you're blaming Wesley's achilles on Neil Olshey? Because with a healthy roster all of the moves made by NO had nothing to do with the injuries. You say you aren't impressed but he put together a roster that made for the second round of the playoffs for the first time in 14 years...

Hmmm....I'm guessing it wasn't clear that my post was in response to BGD saying Olshey had done nothing to impress him (I didn't quote BGD's post), and that my response to BGD was pure sarcasm (I didn't use 'green' font, nor did I clarify I was being snarky)?

My bad. :)

To clarify, I was impressed last year when I posted that, and am more impressed today.

Thwarted by the fuckin' date again...:smiley-pat:

Yea, sucks we lost out on Rich Cho.

So Wright gets another year to fix his game? And Claver? I wish they would cut him. I hate to see a guy like that just sitting for a year. He could play well somewhere.
How about cut THEM

Assuming CJ is the sixth man this starting five is going to run Dame into the ground.

Lillard will be the only starter who can create his own shot.

Crabbe seems to be able to create his own shot.

If Crabbe is your startimg SG ...you're in trouble.

But what are the alternatives? Pat isn't ready for big minutes. Luis "don't call me Giannis" Montero?

We are in trouble. Did you think this was still a playoff team?

No.

But starting Crabbe is blatant tanking.

Just this side of Philly.

Neil's not done?

"We are going to be active, we’re always going to be active,” said Olshey. “We still have $23 million in cap room. There are very few teams that have that level of cap room at this point. We’re going to continue to try and build the roster, acquire assets. Any time there’s ever an opportunity to add a really good young player like Moe, we’re going to look to be opportunistic. That’s just where we are right now. We could have gone the other way. Absent LaMarcus Aldridge, that group was not going to be good enough. We judge ourselves by high standards and if we can’t compete at the highest level then we needed to go in another direction.”

I think NeO has one more move in him this summer. Say in about 3 weeks.

A bright side to that is that the Blazers will be forced to execute team basketball.
